One of my college internships was at a great, local marketing agency called Brandrenew - Indianapolis. My friend and Brandrenew Founder, Cris Dorman used to listen to Christmas music in July. The first time I heard it I thought I was hallucinating. Turns out it was a super important marketing lesson. Even though it was 90°F (and probably 100% humidity) outside, Cris was already thinking about winter campaigns. The best marketers operate weeks, months, maybe even quarters in the future. For those of you putting the finishing touches on your Mother's Day promotions, here's some spend data from +15,000 B2C messaging campaigns. 🌷 Early Bloomers: The first Mother's Day campaigns take flight in early-mid April. 📈 Flower Surge: By the end of April, campaign volume will increase 3x. ⛰️ You're peaking, darling: The high point of activity is 7-14 days BEFORE the holiday, however the week of trails by only a couple percentage points PS: If you aren't in marketing but made it this far then take this as an early reminder that Mother's Day is May 12 this year.....

Reflecting on an Incredible Post-Grad Internship at Weber Shandwick: I despise writing novel-length LinkedIn posts, but as much as I would love to spare you, the amount of exposure I received this summer can't be summed up in a paragraph. These past three months have been a whirlwind of growth, learning, and unforgettable experiences- here's what I've been up to: ➡ Barbie (Mattel, Inc.): Contributed to powerful campaigns, including, but not limited to, the first-ever Blind Barbie & Black Down Syndrome Barbie, Sue Bird Barbie collaboration, and the Barbie Brand Campaign for the Chicago Sky vs. Indiana Fever WNBA game. I had the honor of owning all media materials for Barbie Dream Besties, honing my skills in media list development, brand messaging, pitching, and campaign tracking. ➡ UNO (Mattel, Inc.): Worked on the Colorblind initiative and the UNO x NFL collaboration. My role involved media audits, campaign and mailer ideation, and copy development. ➡ Danone: Supported the REMIX campaign through influencer sourcing and communications. I joined Danone’s trends engine team to track consumer trends and develop the future of all influencer mailers. In addition to working across Oikos, Light + Fit, Activia, and Too Good & Co., I contributed to Silk's campaign ideation and strategy practices. ➡ Staples: Worked on the Back to School Campaign, managing pitching, media list development, and client communications. I created the weekly Staples Round-Up, an essential internal resource for Staples Inc. employees. ➡ Maine Lobster Marketing Collaborative: Contributed to the Maine Lobster Tour with influencer activations and communications. I also worked on National Maine Lobster Day and Maine Lobster Week, celebrating Maine Lobstermen and the restaurants serving Maine Lobster nationwide. ➡ Mimecast: Was immersed in a tech background by developing media lists for acquisitions and managing the weekly News Scan report. ➡ New Business: I had the chance to tap into my passion for sales by exploring pitch angles and business opportunities for iconic brands such as REI, Grillo's Pickles, Nestlé Health Science, and more. I’m excited to continue this work in the future! A huge thank you to my manager, Diala Demashkieh, for her guidance; Katlin Rice, SHRM-CP Rice for her support; and Nyla Saleh for being an inspiring role model. To the rest of the team – thank you for making this internship a valuable and memorable experience. The Planning Academy was a great success, and in 2018/19 we found paid Planning Internships for a whole host of new talent to the industry. We had Head of Strategy and Chief Strategy Officers from AMV BBDO, Grey, Mother, VCCP, VML, Publicis, RAPP, Anomaly, Lucky Generals, adam&eveDDB, PD3, Recipe, HeyHuman, Omobono, Kameleon, McCann Worldgroup, Gravity Road, M&C Saatchi UK, Ogilvy, T&Pm, BBH London, 18 Feet & Rising, MRM, Saatchi & Saatchi and Brandtech Consulting all reviewing the 19 Finalists presentations at our London offices. It was a career highlight for me, and something I'm looking to replicate next year and beyond. Many people have now started their planning careers from this initiative, yet the founding principles as to why I set this up still ring true. 1. Lack of diversity As highlighted by the IPA, there is a distinct lack of diversity in the advertising industry. The Planning Academy is open to applicants from all backgrounds and ethnicities, and we will be actively encouraging applicants from diverse backgrounds, be it from underprivileged or ethnically diverse backgrounds, to apply as an opportunity to join the industry at grassroots level. 2. There is a general shortage of talent - especially junior and mid-weight planners The talent shortage has been partly caused by the knock-on effect of Covid, with a lack of hiring throughout this time. But it’s also due to the expansion of planning to all types of creative and media agencies, leaving the talent pool stretched. 3. Losing out on talent and educating the next generation Statistically, advertising & media is one of the most sought after fields for those entering university, but there is a huge drop off rate for graduates upon exit and many people aren’t aware opportunities within planning are even an option. Meanwhile, other industries are sweeping up some of the best young minds, and we are keen to promote the industry and educate young people about careers in planning & strategy. 4. It’s hard to get a foot in the door It can be tricky to get a start in planning. However, experience is highly coveted. We’re keen to bridge this gap and bring the next generation of planners into the industry. By offering a paid placement or a mentor, this is providing an opportunity for potential young planners to learn from their peers whilst applying relevant skills including research, insight generation and support to hone their skills and gain experience in this field. As a senior marketing student, I've always understood the the importance of marketing. But recently, there's been a shift in my perspective. I've transitioned from simply understanding marketing tactics to truly appreciating the power of branding. Here's what sparked this realization: Internship Experience: During my internship at The NOON Ltd., I witnessed firsthand how a strong brand identity can differentiate a company in a crowded marketplace. It wasn't just about selling products; it was about creating an emotional connection with customers. Customer Insights: While researching consumer behavior, I discovered that customers are drawn to brands that resonate with their values and aspirations. A well-established brand goes beyond the product, embodying a personality, story and promise. This new perspective has fueled my passion for marketing: Strategic Thinking: Now, I approach marketing campaigns with a focus on building brand awareness and loyalty alongside promoting specific products. Content Creation: When crafting marketing content, I consider how it reflects the brand's voice, values, and overall image.  Branding is the cornerstone of successful marketing. This summer I got to spend 10 weeks with Crowley Webb for my first marketing internship! There’s no amount of words that could explain the experience I got to endure during my summer, just wow. I learned so many things that not only confirmed my dream of pursuing marketing/PR, but I’ve learned life lessons for my work and my personal life. So for a quick summary of my time with CW and Praxis, here is what I learned: Projects: Here I got to go through multiple departments, spending at most 2 weeks with each of them! I was assigned a variety of projects whether it be from managing CRM contacts to making social videos! I got to experience departments such as account service, public relations, media, analytics, Praxis, creative, video, and digital! My time spent with each department, whether it be long or short was more wasted at all because they sure did keep us busy! Experience: Here throughout the departments I got to experience so so much. I experienced how research is done to successfully market on the right media platforms with analytics to support it. I experienced an amazing activation event with Highmark Health and the Buffalo Bills that showed me how all the work that each department does over the long process leading up to this event comes together to create something so successful that the public loves to interact with. I also experienced so many client and real life projects meetings which was an amazing insight on how each client is different and needs something different and how adaptable CW can be to their client needs. I also experienced all the people who work for CW and Praxis and let me just say they are all special in their own way and I can see how they are the core of their company and how they express their talent and love in their work. Lessons Learned: I learned how important is to make a network of connections. I came out of this internship with connections that I believe will be life long and will help me lead me to my desired career! I also learned how it’s okay to express your creativity because everyone wants to hear your ideas whether they are good or bad. Of course I learned the core and basic foundations of each department and how certain tactics work for some and some don’t work for others. I also learned that everything you make, you have to make sure you love it because you have to think of yourself as the public, who in the end, you are marketing for. You can’t make something that you don’t enjoy because that just means others won’t enjoy it either. And like said before I learned the importance of client relationships and coworker relationships because success starts from within and then is potrayed outwardly. Conclusion Thoughts: This internship was an experience like no other and I think the perfect first foundational internship for anyone whose not too sure if marketing is what they want to do because you touch everything! Thank you to CW and thank you to Praxis for taking your time to teach me your life!

Embarking on a new journey is always thrilling, and my recent plunge into the world of digital marketing at Padding has been nothing short of an exhilarating adventure. From the moment I walked through the doors of Padding, I knew this was the dynamic environment I had been searching for. Joining as a Digital Marketing Intern felt like stepping into a realm of endless possibilities, and my anticipation reached new heights as I embraced the challenges that lay ahead. The warmth and camaraderie among my colleagues and leaders made my onboarding experience truly special. The support and encouragement I received from day one made me feel like an integral part of the Padding family. It's a community where ideas flow, and creativity knows no bounds. Speaking of creativity, my first week was a whirlwind of excitement and learning. Juggling the responsibilities of a digital marketing intern while managing my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) commitments added an extra layer of challenge. Yet, in the midst of it all, I found inspiration in the incredible individuals around me who seamlessly balanced multiple roles. This is me hailing those multitasking superheroes who effortlessly navigate between two or three jobs – it's safe to say they are the real MVPs. Witnessing such dedication has motivated me to push my limits and strive for excellence in every task. As I reflect on my initial days at Padding, I can't help but be grateful for the opportunities that have unfolded. The combination of enthusiasm, teamwork, and a hint of chaos has made my journey here an unforgettable one. I eagerly anticipate the projects, challenges, and triumphs that await me, knowing that each day brings new lessons and experiences. So, here's to embracing the digital adventure at Padding – where passion meets purpose, and every day is a step closer to achieving greatness.
