During a recent team meeting in Warsaw, we were fortunate enough to take a unique interactive journey to an invisible world… At The Invisible Exhibition, we had to find our way round using only our senses and communication. I won’t give out too many spoilers, but I did want to share some key takeaways on how “The Invisible Exhibition” in the workplace can enhance inclusivity, communication, and overall effectiveness of teams. 🤝 Empathy and Understanding: by understanding and accommodating colleagues’ diverse needs, you can foster a more empathetic work environment and team dynamics. Likewise in leadership roles, managers can lead with empathy by promoting a supportive culture that values each team member's contributions. 👂Sensory Awareness: considering sensory aspects, such as creating quiet spaces for focused work or ensuring clear auditory signals for important alerts, can create a more accessible workplace. 🎨Adaptability: encourage creative problem-solving by thinking beyond visual cues and by fostering innovative approaches to challenges. 🗣️Communication: use clear, concise language and ensure multiple forms of communication, such as verbal, written, tactile, to ensure everyone understands key messages. And develop strong active listening skills to better understand and respond to colleagues' inputs and concerns. 🏅Appreciation: recognise and value the unique skills and perspectives that each associate brings, especially those with different abilities. This can be done with implementing programs and initiatives that celebrate diversity and inclusion and foster a culture of respect and appreciation. Yesterday, our North Eastern DE&I (diversity, equity & inclusion) team came together for an empowering face-to-face brainstorming session at the Tampere plant, and what a meeting it was! Joined by the incredible Michela Testa, who leads DE&I efforts in Italy, we delved into meaningful discussions and explored innovative approaches to further our DE&I goals in the NE region.   Here's a quick overview of the key highlights and takeaways from our session: 🔹 Michela shared invaluable insights into the DE&I initiatives implemented in Italy, providing us with inspiration and best practices to adapt to our context. 🔹 We discussed the possibility of organizing more frequent discussion sessions throughout the year, with a focus on monthly meetings to keep the momentum going. 🔹 Communication strategies were examined to ensure that our DE&I efforts are effectively communicated across the organization. 🔹 We collectively defined what Inclusion and DE&I mean specifically in our NE region, setting a clear direction for our future actions.   Overall, it was a highly productive and insightful meeting, filled with dedication, and a shared commitment to driving positive change within our organization. 🌎 Reflecting on the Power of Multicultural Teams 🌍 Back in September, our team gathered in Barcelona for an immersive one-day Talent Experience workshop. It was an invaluable opportunity to discuss our current and upcoming projects while deepening our connections as a team. One of the coolest parts was getting to know each other better (especially for me as the newbie trying to vibe with the team). We engaged in an insightful exercise inspired by the 'Culture Map' book, exploring our preferences across the communication, evaluation, persuasion, leadership, decision-making, trust, disagreement and scheduling scales. What truly stood out was the diversity within our team, with members coming from different countries and backgrounds: Spain, Serbia, Russia, the US & Uruguay. It was incredible to see how these diverse viewpoints and backgrounds came together, making our team even stronger! 💪 This experience made me reflect on the strengths of multicultural teams: embracing multiculturalism isn't just about acknowledging differences; it's about leveraging them as our collective strength. Our diverse backgrounds and viewpoints aren’t barriers, but pillars upon which we build our success. In this mosaic of diversity, innovation flourishes, new ideas emerge, and our collective potential expands exponentially. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be part of a team that not only acknowledges but celebrates our differences.
