The new European Commission can use #aviation to boost EU competitiveness. Mario Draghi's report into EU Competitiveness presents an opportunity to revitalize the role of aviation sector. Draghi's policy proposals, if implemented, could enhance Europe's competitiveness by reducing regulatory burdens, encouraging innovation, and optimizing transport infrastructure. His key recommendations include: ☑️ Using ETS (Emissions Trading System) revenues and grants to support alternative fuels and de-risk investments, for a just transition to decarbonization ☑️ Modernization and integration of Europe's air traffic management system through the Single European Sky (SES) initiative to reduce inefficiencies and emissions. In addition, we believe proposed Transport Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas should prioritize reforms of the EU 261 consumer regulation and strengthen the regulation of airport and air navigation services charges. Airbaltic CEO Martin Gauss, the Latvian Transport Minister Kaspars Briškens, MEP Christophe Grudler and Breakthrough Energy’s Julia Reinaud are exchanging now on European aviation’s destination at a time of political and regulatory change. We need the next European Parliament and European Commission to ensure Europe has a strong and sustainable airline sector that can compete on the global stage. #AviationSummit2024

People want to fly, it's clear when you look at the increasing number of flights. Today, at the meeting of Eurocontrol's Standing Committee of Finance, we took care of our responsibility to continue developing European aviation together as a network for European citizens. So that European aviation is even safer, more efficient and greener now and in the future.

Today International Air Transport Association (IATA), BARIN, Board of Airline Representatives In the Netherlands and Air Cargo Netherlands sent a letter to the dutch minister of Infrastructure, mr. Harbers, to reemphasize our concerns regarding the Dutch Government’s plans with respect to a nationale ceiling on CO2 emissions per airport in the Netherlands which would have detrimental effects on the aviation industry. The air cargo industry is fully engaged to decarbonize and to reach net zero emission by 2050 but the imposition of a national CO2-ceiling per airport will raise several issues and contradictions under which incompability with Global agreements and conflicts with EU ETS. EBAA Secretary General Outlines the Future Path for Business Aviation in Europe at JETNET IQ Summit in New York. At the panel titled "Accelerating Forward: Re-Imagining Advocacy, Communications, and Lobbying in an Evolving Business Aviation Environment," Holger Krahmer, EBAA Secretary General, was joined by leaders from major global aviation associations, including Kurt Edwards, IBAC, Ed Bolen, National Business Aviation Association, Peter Bunce, General Aviation Manufacturers Association, and Ali Ahmed Alnaqbi, MEBAA (Middle East and North Africa Business Aviation Association). Here are the crucial points addressed by Holger: ✈️Highlighting Societal Benefits: It's vital we better communicate to policymakers and the public the societal added value of business aviation. ✈️The unfair treatment of business aviation in the taxonomy regulation must cease. 🍃Support for SAF: To enhance SAF market penetration, incentives for both supply and demand, especially through a book & claim system, are necessary. 🏛️Upcoming Slot Regulation: As we approach the revision of the slot regulation, fair consideration for business aviation is essential. ✈️Non-CO2 Emissions: Engaging in discussions on regulating non-CO2 emissions in aviation is becoming increasingly important. Promoting Sustainability: 🤝Emphasizing zero-emission paths and sustainability more vigorously is critical. The 'Climbing. Fast.' initiative is instrumental in this effort in Europe. Maintaining a unified voice as a global business aviation community is key, as shown by EBAA successful collaboration on the joint policy manifesto with GAMA and the impactful new Eco Impact study. #event #businessaviation #regulation #EU #EBAA #associations #ClimbingFast #SAF

Just like every sector, Europe’s airports will be watching the results of today’s election of a new European Parliament very closely - as they will set the direction of the EU for the next 5 years. It has become customary to portray every election as coming at « a crucial time ». But this has never been so true this time, when Europe is facing so many challenges and we live in a « new age of chaos » as pointed by António Guterres, the UN Secretary General. The European Union needs to keep asserting itself politically and economically and it also needs to remain true to its social and climate goals. That will require squaring many circles. While it all looks pretty daunting, there is no question addressing all our challenges can only be done together, with and through the EU. Looking at aviation & airports, these challenges involve decarbonising while at the same time safeguarding the unique socio-economic benefits of air connectivity. As ACI EUROPE we look forward working closely with the new European Parliament #noairportleftbehind #nocommunityleftbehind

Climate change has very much become politicised over the past months in the run up to the European elections and as we move closer to our next 5-year political cycle. That should not be. Climate change is about science first and foremost - and the Green Deal came in response to science (and international commitments under the Paris Agreement). It has positioned Europe as the leading continent on climate action and the preservation of future generations’ mere existence. So it has been a no brainer for ACI EUROPE to be part of this unprecedented coalition calling on EU leaders to preserve the Green Deal as THE way forward for Europe’s security, competitiveness and sustainable growth. In fact this is the only way. Developing and managing airports has always been about remaining as much as possible driven by and focused on the long-term. Deciding on public policies and regulating should follow the same logic - more than ever. Of course, there is a lot to do to improve the Green Deal and future-proof it - hence our call for it to be complemented by a real industrial policy. Hence also our call together with our #destination2050 partners for an EU Pact for Sustainable and Competitive Aviation. But there can be no way back from the direction set by the Green Deal. #GREENDEALFOREU | European Commission | European Parliament | Council of the European Union
📣 ACI EUROPE joins over 400 cross-sector organisations in a collective call on EU leaders to confirm the Green Deal as a strategic priority for the next EU mandate. The EU Green Deal is the foundation of a competitive, secure, modern and efficient Europe. As such, it must be underpinned by EU industrial policy supporting its implementation. EU airports are bound by a number of requirements for their infrastructure to meet the ambitious goals enshrined in the Green Deal, and they now need the stability and supporting measures to deliver on the transformation. This means, the EU Green Deal needs to be reconfirmed as a key strategic priority for our bloc by the new leaders assuming their office this year and complemented by a sound EU industrial strategy to support it. Moreover, the European aviation stakeholders are ready to start a closer cooperation with the institutions shaping their sustainable and competitive future, notably the European Commission, to establish an EU Pact for Sustainable & Competitive Aviation, fully aligned with the EU Green Deal objectives. The current proposed compromises on Single European Sky (SES) fall far short of what passengers and the environment deserve and what airlines expect. Ahead of a "trilogue" negotiation amongst the three main EU institutions tomorrow, A4E has analysed what is needed to deliver an effective SES and how far we will fall short if the current compromises are passed. The Yamoussoukro Decision (YD), adopted in 1999, aimed to liberalize air transport in Africa by creating a Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM). However, the full implementation and realization of its objectives have been hindered by several challenges like political will, national interests, and uneven regulatory environments. Achieving full "open skies" remains complex and significant progress is still needed to a highly liberalized air transport market in Africa, which would be crucial for its full integration..
At the end of 20th Century main aviation regions like the European Union (EU) and Australia, learning from the experience of the USA and being under pressure from its liberal policy, followed a similar path in order to gain the benefits available from liberalization and to minimize its possible threats. Particularly, in the EU, despite the difference in the level of aviation development across member countries, a regional ‘Open Skies’ agreement was imposed. Van Antwerp (2002) indicates that since 1993, the EU has created a single market in which member countries’ airlines are given freedom of establishment, market access, capacity and tariff (fare) fixing for air transport within its borders.
