Follow the Trucks! 🚛 Trucks keep manufacturing businesses alive—no trucks, no operations. Case in point: I am having trouble selling an acre of M-zoned land in Brooklyn for around $200 per Lot SF. The problem? Terrible truck access to major thoroughfares. It’s been a hard sell because truck access isn’t just a “nice-to-have” for many users and investors—it’s a dealbreaker. Here’s a quick breakdown of the top truck routes in Brooklyn: ▪️ I-278 (BQE): The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway—Brooklyn’s main truck artery. ▪️ Atlantic Avenue: A key east-west corridor for truck movement. ▪️ Third Avenue: Runs parallel to the BQE and supports local truck traffic. ▪️ Linden Boulevard: A neighborhood connector and truck-friendly route. ▪️ Conduit Boulevard: Links to the Belt Parkway and bridges Brooklyn and Queens. For sellers understand that if your property is easily accessible by trucks -- it often results in a 10%+ premium on price and a more efficient sales process. For investors, the same accessibility could result in a 10%+ premium in rent and shorter leasing downtime! Follow the Trucks!

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that the largest electrified bus depot in #NewYorkState is now operational in #Buffalo, advancing the transition to a clean #publictransit system that reduces #greenhousegasemissions and improves the air for residents in congested urban areas. With 36 overhead charging systems in the Cold Spring maintenance garage and a new sub-station built to accommodate future expansion, the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (#NFTA) project will serve as a model for transit agencies around the state to transition from diesel fuel-powered transportation. NFTA plans for the Cold Spring garage to solely support #zeroemission vehicles by 2035. “We are building a transportation infrastructure that is cleaner, healthier and more sustainable, and the Buffalo bus depot is the newest feature of our efforts,” Governor Hochul said. “Our investment in electrified buses and charging infrastructure not only improves the environmental impact of the fleet itself, but encourages New Yorkers to make public transportation their first choice — resulting in cleaner air and a greener future for everyone.” The New York Power Authority (#NYPA) oversaw the design and installation of the overhead charging systems in four bus lanes at the Cold Spring garage over the last couple of years. The bus lanes were reconfigured for #electricbuses and the roof structure was reinforced to accommodate high-tech overhead pantograph dispensers. The new NFTA-owned substation was designed so it can be expanded to allow for full electrification. New York Power Authority President and CEO Justin E. Driscoll said, “Transitioning municipal bus fleets to clean air technologies will lower emissions and improve #airquality throughout New York State. The Buffalo depot — now the largest electric bus depot in the state — is an excellent example of new charging infrastructure allowing transit agencies to convert from diesel to electric power. The Power Authority is committed to supporting the transformation of the state’s transportation system and helping the state reach its goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 85 percent by 2050.” Electric transit buses have no tailpipe emissions, lower maintenance costs, and effectively reduce the use of #fossilfuels. The transition of fleets throughout the state will help improve air quality and build healthier communities, especially in disadvantaged communities that are typically low-income or under-resourced neighborhoods that bear the brunt of vehicle #airpollution. NFTA received its first battery electric bus in 2022 and has 24 on site today. Twenty-one additional electric buses are expected to be operational over the next two years. The garage’s electrical capacity can currently serve about 50 buses, or half of the depot, and can be scaled up to serve the entire depot. NFTA has a goal of operating a 100 percent zero-emission bus fleet by 2035. 🔻🔻🔻 Click/tap image below to view video on YouTube 🔻🔻🔻

For anyone in the business of promoting sustainable and active travel, the very real possibility of pavements of our neighbourhoods starting to look more and more like this because of pavement charging is a terrifying prospect. Many councils advise against laying an electric car charging cable across the pavement but generally, charging EVs on a public roads is permitted "as long as cables don't obstruct the footway or any access areas". Some EV owners may ignore the safety and accessibility issues of pavement charging caused to others, (such as pedestrians tripping and causing injuries or wheelchair users / prams not being able to get by) and the direct legal responsibilities, implications and liability to personal injury claims. At the moment there are no legal restrictions in place but, under the Highway Act, councils do have the power to remove any cables they think are in unsuitable locations. The Local Government Association (LGA) advises that electric car charging cables should only run over pavements or footways when the vehicle is charging and that they should be removed as soon as possible. In Norfolk, EV owners wishing to 'pavement charge', need to apply for permission from Norfolk County Council to run a charging cable across footpaths and pavements. Each application will be assed separately by highways officers for the need and suitability of the location. When given, permission will be then temporary due to the ongoing installation of new public chargepoints in residential areas. https://lnkd.in/e--QA8jd Some Councils are also trialling new through-pavement channels and gullies like 'Kerbo', 'gul-e', 'Pavecross' or 'Chargegully' to run charging cables across pavements safely.
It took me 25 years to realise that that most of the clutter on our streets is only there for the management and facilitation of motoring. Unfortunately the rise of electric vehicles is adding even more of it. The photo hints at a couple of issues. First is a lack of charging infrastructure for people without off-street parking. EV kit added to lighting columns is perhaps useful for slow charging, but no good where (like here) columns are nicely out of the way of pedestrians. If we are going to have other on-street chargers, then they can go in the carriageway, but that also cements kerbside use for car parking. We can deploy channels in the footway so people can run a cable (slightly) under the footway, but it's another little bump across the footway and objectively makes walking a tiny bit less comfortable. The second issue pushes this because, of course, home charging is popular because it is much cheaper than on-street and commercial charging. I don't have a universal answer and I doubt there is one, but where was it decided that car refuelling should be moved from the private forecourt to the public street and why should highway authorities have to take on another responsibility (even in part)? I suspect that in common with the last 100 years of motoring, we now have a fait accompli to deal with. #ThursdayThoughts

TARC has finalized a series of service reductions and changes proposed earlier this fall. Those changes will take effect on Sunday January 26, 2025. The service changes will affect 11 different TARC routes. The most significant changes will affect TARC routes #22 Twenty-Second Street and #63 Crums Lane. Those two routes will be merged into two other TARC routes. - The #22 Twenty-Second Street will be merged with the #18 Dixie Highway - The #63 Crums Lane will be merged into the #29 Eastern Parkway. In turn, riders of both the redesigned #18 Dixie Highway and #29 Eastern Parkway should note that each route will be rerouted. -The #18 Dixie Highway will now terminate in Portland and customers will need to make a transfer to get to downtown Louisville. - The #29 Eastern Parkway will be extended to cover what the #63 Crums Lane currently covers. 🌱🚗 How to charge an electric car with no driveway? ⚡️> Communities are driving towards a cleaner, greener future with innovative solutions for urban mobility! 🌟 Local councils are leading the charge by making electric vehicle ownership more accessible and convenient for everyone, even in areas with limited off-street parking. 🏡⚡️ Thanks to forward-thinking local policy initiatives, like Nottinghamshire County Council's provision of shallow covered channels for kerbside charging, residents like Alison Chilton enjoy electric mobility's benefits right outside their doorstep! 💡 Plus, with the government's approval of funds for charging infrastructure, including the £381 million LEVI fund, the future of electric mobility looks brighter than ever! 🌟💰 But it doesn't stop there! Derby City Council's partnership with Enterprise for an electric car share club is revolutionizing how we think about transportation. 🚀 By offering free memberships and mileage vouchers, they're reducing parking congestion and giving sceptics a chance to experience electric cars firsthand. 🚗💨 These local policy initiatives demonstrate that we can overcome the challenges of transitioning to sustainable transportation with determination and innovation! 🙌 Let's keep driving towards a greener future, one electric mile at a time! ⚡️🌍 #GreenMobility #SustainableCities #ElectricRevolution https://lnkd.in/esncMMq7
