FHU’s broad multidisciplinary services go beyond the roadway. In honor of last week being Pollinator Week, we want to celebrate the work that our environmental teams do across the country to promote, educate about and secure funding for native pollinators and vegetation. Showcased here is City of Council Bluffs Valley View Park where FHU restored the native habitat and created educational signage. For Iowa Dot Living Roadway Trust Fund, FHU has secured grant funding and works to educate communities on the benefits of native vegetation that supports pollinators.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced budget cuts that, if enacted, will essentially wipe out #communitycomposting infrastructure in #NYC, as well as threaten widely used #foodwaste drop-off sites operated by GrowNYC at Greenmarkets throughout the city. “NYC has long been a leader not only in #composting, but community composting … that keeps the composting process and #compost use local, while offering community engagement and education opportunities,” according to Institute for Local Self-Reliance. ILSR’s 2022 Community Composter Census identified New York as home to the largest concentration of community composters in the U.S.—a thriving ecosystem of local businesses, environmental nonprofits, and neighborhood gardens. #climate

This is critical infrastructure!!
When you step outside, do you feel grateful for the space and it's accessibility? Or are you one of the 100 million Americans that lack access to a quality local park? Yes, 100 million Americans lack access to a quality local park. The Outdoors for All Act, a bipartisan bill in both the House and Senate, would ensure that the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership program has steady funding for generations to come. What does that mean for park access? This program awards grant funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund, supporting the development of new parks and the renovation of existing outdoor recreation infrastructure in underinvested urban communities. Help to bring quality parks to ALL Americans, take action now ⏬ https://lnkd.in/eQ5sQRrx

TOMORROW MORNING (SATURDAY JUNE 3RD) at 9:00 AM our amazing Who I Am Foundation volunteers in #Phoenix will be cleaning up the community once again! For this Community Clean-Up (PHX) our volunteers will be meeting in the 19th Ave and Camelback Park and Ride parking lot, located at 1813 W Camelback Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85015! NO OPEN-TOED SHOES Cleaning up loose trash is one of the best ways to pitch in for your community and the environment. Volunteering as a means to help conserve and protect the #environment has a lot of upsides. Of course, the first is that you’ll be taking care of our planet, and it badly needs a little love given the myriad ways in which we’ve become adept at destroying it. But beyond that, #volunteering for a cause you care about is a great way to meet like-minded people, make friends, and pull yourself out of the blues that sometimes accompany caring a lot about something important – especially if you feel alone in your endeavors. None of us like the sight of #litter. Litter spoils the look of where we live but that’s not the only reason for picking up litter. There are a number of benefits from picking up litter that you may not have considered before. Volunteer-led projects such as these are one of the quickest, simplest, and least expensive ways to inspire more community spirit and civic action. A visually appealing community increases property values, attracts businesses, and improves the neighborhood's image. Beauty is one of the three most influential factors in community attachment, which means loyalty, to your particular town or city. Some research even shows that a nice-looking neighborhood promotes good behavior. Join us in keeping your #community clean! For more information: https://lnkd.in/gPkPe6zP #TeamWhoIAm_Phoenix

The feedback from my fall experiment of offering free habitat workshops was so positive I’ve decided to host seasonal habitat workshops this year to share actionable ways to create a more ecologically sustainably landscape - with the focus on the function of our yards as a wildlife habitat. The size of the workshops is intentionally limited to make them more interactive and encourage authentic connections. I’ve worked hard to offer hands-on and practical ideas geared towards anyone who is at the beginning of the process of restoring habitat where they live. I’m maintaining the low-key nature of the workshops by reaching out through my networks to folks who are open to making their yards more wildlife friendly. Feel free to share this information with anyone who you think "gets it" and might benefit. The Winter Habitat Yard Workshop is on Sunday, February 25 from 12:00-2:00pm. Before reserving a spot by e-mailing ljmarkson@att.net, please read the blog post here (https://lnkd.in/dbps6NzX) plus the one I wrote last fall (https://lnkd.in/g3H9z_ij) detailing the reasons for the workshop and what to expect. Spring and summer dates are in the works! The workshops are for adults, but children of all ages are welcome – after all it’s their future we’re all trying to save! Be on the lookout for a special family workshop this summer. * I'm keeping the workshops free. My website is being updated and will have a donate button now that Nurture Native Nature is a non-profit organization. This will help offset the cost of offering free educational community outreach programs and activities throughout the year. #nativeplants #naturelovers #habitatyard #coexistwithnature #nurturenativenature

Another step towards a more equitable outdoors! Really proud of the work my team and ally organizations have done to advance this legislation forward. Learn more & get involved below.
🚨Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed the bi-partisan Outdoors for All Act 🚨 As part of the Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences Act, which will ensure that the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership has steady funding for generations to come. This program awards grant funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund, supporting the development of new parks and the renovation of existing outdoor recreation infrastructure in underinvested communities. This is a huge step forward in bringing parks to the 100 million people in the United States who lack access to a quality local park. Thank you to those who supported, now let's get the Outdoors For All Act through the Senate! Domino’s is proud to partner with American Farmland Trust (AFT), an organization that focuses on the conservation and management of rural land, specifically through sustainable agriculture advocacy, education and assistance. Domino’s support of AFT goes toward the Brighter Future Fund which creates opportunities for underserved farmers and invests in the viability of their farms, ranches and urban gardens. This year, Dazmonique Carr, a local urban farmer in Detroit, MI, received a grant from the Brighter Future Fund. Domino’s team members got the amazing opportunity to volunteer at her farm, Deeply Rooted Produce, and learn about the farms’ incredible impact on the local community. Watch to learn more about the importance of Domino’s partnership with American Farmland Trust and the Brighter Future Fund.

Dear grant funders; let's simplify the process! 🙌 The complexity of grant applications can be a barrier for many organizations. Streamlining and clarifying the process can make funding more accessible and impactful. Streamlining the application and proposal development process will enable you to truly support meaningful initiatives without unnecessary obstacles. If you need help, contact C.A. Mayer Consulting and we will audit your process to determine what can be streamlined and how. www.camayerconsulting.com #SimplifyGrants #AccessibleFunding #ImpactfulInitiatives
Hey National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, if you need eleven pages, a separate indirect cost calculation document, and a degree in business to explain your budget form, it’s too complicated! Complicated applications advantage large, well-established organizations, and disadvantage anyone small, new, under-resourced, or just pressed for time! We say #CrappyFundingPractice! Got crappy funders? Tell us about them here! https://lnkd.in/gStX7dBd
