When you step outside, do you feel grateful for the space and it's accessibility? Or are you one of the 100 million Americans that lack access to a quality local park? Yes, 100 million Americans lack access to a quality local park. The Outdoors for All Act, a bipartisan bill in both the House and Senate, would ensure that the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership program has steady funding for generations to come. What does that mean for park access? This program awards grant funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund, supporting the development of new parks and the renovation of existing outdoor recreation infrastructure in underinvested urban communities. Another step towards a more equitable outdoors! Really proud of the work my team and ally organizations have done to advance this legislation forward. Learn more & get involved below.
🚨Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed the bi-partisan Outdoors for All Act 🚨 As part of the Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences Act, which will ensure that the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership has steady funding for generations to come. This program awards grant funding through the Land and Water Conservation Fund, supporting the development of new parks and the renovation of existing outdoor recreation infrastructure in underinvested communities. This is a huge step forward in bringing parks to the 100 million people in the United States who lack access to a quality local park. Thank you to those who supported, now let's get the Outdoors For All Act through the Senate! As a business leader and neighbor, our decisions are shaped by guiding principles that we call the JKLH Creed. We believe in: ✳ Demonstrating the same care and respect to all communities that we touch as we do across our parent company JK Moving Services and sister company CapRelo. ✳The need for balance between preserving area lands for future generations and commercial development to support area economic growth. ✳Giving back, so we put approximately 44 acres into conservation easement for every 1 acre we develop commercially. ✳Smart development that benefits the area community in terms of jobs and tax revenue. ✳Demonstrating our commitment to the environment by preserving historically and environmentally important sites through conservation easement. ✳Committing time to work with the communities to listen to their wants and needs. ✳Partnering to clean up the environment for the community. It's mind-boggling that the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation wants to evict the Big Reuse from its Queens site. The Big Reuse processes tons of park and food waste yearly, producing nutrient-rich soil amendment that benefits surrounding parks, community gardens, and street trees. We all understand the challenges that city agencies face (lack of funding, space), but the Parks department's argument -- that it needs the space for parking -- is not justifiable. There is ample space for both its parking needs AND the Big Reuse's compost operation. The city seems intent on killing community composting—contradicting the commitments Adams Administration has promised towards expanding green infrastructure, achieving sustainability goals, improving public space, and more. See the links in Clare Miflin's original post, below, to sign the letter of support (for organizations) and petition (for individuals). My journalist and editor colleagues -- If you're free tomorrow morning, please attend the press conference! If you need more info or would like to set up interviews with the leaders of this resistance, DM me. 🌲🌳 Last week, Maryland reached a major conservation milestone — after setting its “30 by 30” goal in 2023, the state announced that, as of February 2024, it had reached this goal six years ahead of schedule. This means that the state has already conserved more than 1.85 million acres out of Maryland’s 6.1 million acres of total land area. State leaders credit partnership as key to this conservation success, including working closely with local governments, nonprofit land trusts, conservation organizations, federal agencies, and landowners. Maryland is now looking towards its next milestone — conserving 40% of land by 2040. 🔗 Learn more about Maryland’s conservation progress via the Maryland Protected Land Dashboard: https://lnkd.in/e2vxTDtc
