A #hydrogen first in the French skies! 🇫🇷 Aircraft manufacturer Beyond Aero has recently completed France's first manned flight powered entirely by hydrogen-electric technology, with its Blériot prototype, at the Gap-Tallard airfield. ✈️ The plane, which operates on 1.2 kg of gaseous hydrogen stored in three tanks and batteries, successfully completed 10 takeoffs, reaching a climbing speed of 110 km/h. Such a test is a good sign that a more sustainable future for #aviation is possible — and getting closer. 🛫 https://lnkd.in/gUGDqP9j

6 Hydrogen-Powered Aircraft That Are Hitting the Skies Soon, From a Flying Car to a Private Jet H2eVTOLs, as they’re known, have significant potential in an increasingly climate-conscious and cost-conscious society. Most of the news has been about pure electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft that operate by #battery power and electric motors. H2eVTOLs, by contrast, have hydrogen fuel cells that power electric motors, and in the odd case, run on liquid hydrogen. “Hydrogen packs three times the energy per kilogram as jet fuel, emits no carbon emissions, and can be sourced from water,” says Danielle McLean, founder of HYSKY Society, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing hydrogen aviation. McLean notes that #hydrogen has been used to power rockets for decades. Less than a dozen aircraft start-ups are using either fuel cells or liquid hydrogen as the main power for fixed-wing aircraft or rotorcraft, and most are still trying to work out the concepts, or at best, #flying a scaled-down prototype. Airbus expects to have hydrogen-powered commercial regional jets flying in the next 10 years. However hydrogen flight develops, it’s clear it has the potential to be an instrumental role in decarbonizing #aviation. Here are six leading H2eVTOLs that plan to commercialize their aircraft by the end of the decade. https://lnkd.in/eRX3QdT8 Robb Report

SIRIUS AVIATION AG is pushing the boundaries of aviation with their hydrogen-powered business jet, slated for flight tests in 2025. CEO Alexey Popov reveals, "We've just presented the most critical part of this aircraft—the engine." ✈️ 🌐 The hydrogen-electric propulsion system with ducted fans is at the heart of this innovation. Unlike traditional fuel cells, the Sirius Business Jet will utilize liquid hydrogen stored in cryogenic tanks to power electric motors, with a lithium-ion battery system as backup. 🔋⚡ Popov notes, "Most components use proven off-the-shelf technology." Sirius has developed the hydrogen powertrain design and the ducted fan system in collaboration with partners like Designworks, A BMW Group Company. The sleek design, led by Tommy Forsgren, Exterior Designer of BMW Group, promises both efficiency and elegance. Other partners include the Sauber Group F1 on the design and Leonardo Aerostructures, part of the Italian helicopter giant Agusta Westland. Pre-orders from Maritime Energy Heli Air Services Pvt Ltd (MEHAIR) in India for 100 jets indicate strong global interest in this groundbreaking technology. 🛠 ✨ With its extended fuel tanks, the Business Jet boasts a range of 1,150 miles and a maximum cruise speed of 323 mph. Sirius aims to have its hydrogen-electric jet certified by the FAA by the fourth quarter of 2027, with plans to deliver the first jets to customers by the first quarter of 2028. Sirius's commitment to innovation and sustainability is propelling the aviation industry towards a cleaner future. 🚀 🌍 #ZeroEmissions #FutureOfFlight #AviationInnovation #HydrogenPower #SustainableEngineering #Collaboration #EngineeringMarvel 🛫 Discover more about this thrilling achievement in aviation here 👇 https://lnkd.in/gEstbaW5 🌟This video from MSN offers a tantalizing glimpse of the aircraft's sleek design and groundbreaking construction 🛩 https://lnkd.in/gQ274jtW

🌍 Exciting developments in sustainable aviation are taking to the skies! As we continue to push the boundaries of innovation, hydrogen-powered aircraft, known as H2eVTOLs, are emerging as a transformative solution for reducing the aviation industry's carbon footprint. Here are some key highlights: 1. Hydrogen vs. Electric Propulsion: Unlike conventional eVTOLs that rely solely on batteries, H2eVTOLs utilize hydrogen fuel cells or liquid hydrogen. This shift not only promises longer range and better efficiency but also aligns with global decarbonisation goals. 2. Emerging Leaders: Companies like AMSL Aero Aero, SIRIUS AVIATION AG Business Jet, and Urban Aeronautics are at the forefront, developing aircraft that combine the latest in hydrogen fuel cell technology with innovative designs tailored for both regional transport and urban mobility. 3. Safety and Infrastructure: Despite challenges around #hydrogen infrastructure and perceptions about safety, recent studies reassure that hydrogen aircraft are potentially as safe—or even safer—than traditional aircraft. The journey towards widespread hydrogen infrastructure, however, remains a critical hurdle. 4. The Future is Near: With major industry players like Airbus investing in hydrogen technologies, the next decade could see these pioneering aircraft become a reality, significantly impacting how we think about travel and environmental responsibility. 🚁 As we look forward, the intersection of technology, investment, and sustainability will be key to realising the full potential of hydrogen in aviation. What are your thoughts on the future of hydrogen-powered aircraft? Let’s discuss! #HydrogenAviation #SustainableAviation #SustainableTravel #Innovation #AviationTechnology #FutureOfFlight #H2eVTOL #UAM #AAM #SustainableSkies #FutureFlight #H2 #LiquidHydrogen #ZeroE
