Just watched this case study play at #ControlsCon24 by Cochrane Supply & Engineering. #NiagaraCommunity accelerating innovation is a big theme here.

There are some challenging - and valid - points in this opinion piece, especially when you consider how Charleston was built, but there has to be a middle ground. Preservation guidelines are often a blunt tool, not well coordinated with zoning practices or intent. Historic districts have been overused in places where form-base zoning or neighborhood conservation districts would have been a better solution to achieve the end result. Adaptive use strategies need to be encouraged and innovation in grant programs to accommodate building upgrades, such as the installation of sprinkler systems, as valid as subsidies for facade improvements, to maintain the character of a neighborhood or business district.

Restoring old buildings falls directly within our Positive Impact Strategy, specifically our circular economy goals, as we continue to refurbish and add value to existing buildings. With the built environment sector being a large consumer of materials, we believe that buildings should be refurbished rather than demolished wherever possible and this is an excellent example of what can be achieved with this mindset. #workclockwise #circulareconomy #positiveimpact

ICYMI: It's starting to really come together! Lock 3 Park in downtown Akron, Ohio is beginning to look truly spectacular in this Lock 3 Update provided by Dan Rice, president & CEO of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition and Kathyrn DeMuesy, director of construction for Anser Advisory. Among other topics, this video provides an update on the construction of Lock 3 Park as an accessible and equitable public space. The original elevation difference from Main St. to the canal is about 17 feet. The new Lock 3 Park will create a gentle slope from Main St. to the canal, with just a 5% grade change, making the park accessible to all.
