In September, we welcomed two new trainee estimators, Daisy Leis and Tilly Holland, to our team. Today, they took their first steps on-site, visiting our latest project at 29 Marylebone Road in London, which involves the refurbishment and extension of several buildings for the University of Westminster, including a new café and state-of-the-art learning spaces. We will be using fermacell® products to achieve this build on behalf of our valued repeat client, Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure. Daisy and Tilly were accompanied by Flynn Interiors' Construction Director, Danny Bruce, and Project Manager Rosen Georgiev, along with Morgan Sindall’s Social Value Coordinator, Elliott Shaw. As Daisy and Tilly start their construction careers, they will be visiting various Flynn Interiors sites to gain a better understanding of drylining systems and the intricacies involved. This hands-on experience will be crucial in their training and development as they work towards becoming experienced Estimators. We wish them the best of luck in their new roles and look forward to seeing their progress! #Construction #LondonProjects #Fermacell #MorganSindall #Trainees

This is a fab example of how TLevels can work. So pleased that one of our first TLevel business students is going on to higher things through their Industry Placement #TLevels #TLevelBusiness #TLevelConstruction #IndustryPlacement
At Helix, our mission is simple: Intelligent Building. Bradley's continuing journey within our business is a perfect example of how our building blocks of Building Respect, Building Trust, and Building Success work together. As part of our Building Respect campaign, Nic Davies, our CEO, met Bradley Turrell at Newbury College whilst hosting a careers day. Inspired by Nic, Bradley, who had never thought about a career in construction, approached and asked for work experience. For us, Building Trust is about investing time, effort, and resources into our staff, even those on work experience. For 9 months, we have shown him the ropes, encouraging him to work across all disciplines, learn to make proper builders’ tea, manage his own time, and decide if a career in construction was right for him. And today, we are celebrating Building Success, as he has been accepted to Westminster University to study a degree in Quantity Surveying part-time whilst remaining with Helix. Well done, Bradley! #Construction #CareerDevelopment #BuildingSuccess

Earlier today, students from the Lehigh University Real Estate Development Study Abroad Program had the privilege of learning from Kerr Houston, Partner at Johnston Houston, one of the UK’s leading building and construction consultancies. With his engaging presentation (and humorously calling himself a “brick counter”), Kerr walked students through the fascinating world of construction and real estate development. He shared insights into the life cycle of a project, the critical roles of key players, and the vital contributions of a quantity surveyor. Topics ranged from feasibility studies and site procurement to value engineering, contractor pricing, tender analysis, and the financial impact of delays. The session highlighted the importance of collaboration among lenders, contractors, and surveyors, as well as the essential role of due diligence, compliance, and financial management in protecting profit and ensuring project success. Our wonderful students were full of fantastic questions, reflecting their curiosity and enthusiasm. Kerr encouraged students to “bring passion and add value to every role in your career,” inspiring them to approach their future work with purpose and dedication. Birmingham’s Curzon Street Station Development Update🚆 Work has started on the foundations for Birmingham’s Curzon Street Station, the future HS2 hub. The Mace Dragados Joint Venture (MDJV) team, alongside Keltbray, is installing 2,000 piles using three 95-tonne piling rigs. This crucial stage is set for completion by mid-2025, with further construction and design work ongoing over the next year. 🏗️ This development is more than just transport—it's a major boost for Birmingham's economy, creating jobs, apprenticeships, and business opportunities. It’s also a catalyst for property growth in the surrounding areas, offering significant potential for investors as demand increases. 🔍 My thoughts: This progress will transform the property landscape in Birmingham, enhancing connectivity and investment appeal. 💼 Interested in investment opportunities near this development? 📸 It’s always the people that make the difference. Starting the year strong with an incredible team who exemplify innovation, relationships, and hard work. In this photo, you’ll see Tamsyn, our Site Manager at our Amberley Country Estates project, and Sam Thorn, who owns Thornz Landscapes (https://www.thornz.co.nz/). These two are a duo who’ve been pivotal to our progress. Sam isn’t just a landscaper, he’s a visionary. From excavation and gravel raft construction to driveways, patios, footpaths and some seriously impressive landscaping, Sam brings an eye for detail and the right tools to every job. His commitment to investing in quality equipment doesn’t just get the job done, it makes it faster, more efficient and enjoyable for his team. Behind him in this shot is an excavation he’s completed, now ready for engineered backfill. He’s a key part of ensuring our villas stand on a solid foundation. Tamsyn, on the right, is the definition of precision. She’s always looking for ways to make things more efficient, right down to the millimetre. One of her innovations changed the way we install windows; instead of stacking them onsite, they now come straight off the delivery truck installed perfectly into their openings before the truck even leaves site. This kind of forward-thinking saves time, reduces rework and makes our processes seamless. Tamsyn’s journey in construction started after a site visit with me years ago. After teaching in China, she wasn’t sure where to head next but she found her place in construction. She excelled during her apprenticeship and even placing third in the regional apprentice of the year competition. When I started with HPA, I knew exactly who I wanted on my team and she has proven time and again why she’s the perfect fit. Innovation doesn’t happen in isolation. It is built on relationships, trust and a commitment to develop and support your people. Here’s to fostering more of that in 2025. #Innovation #Leadership #ConstructionExcellence #Teamwork #RetirementLiving #Landscaping #RelationshipsMatter #BuildingTheFuture #AgedCare
