Another great initiative to be involved in from the team at Street Industries. Everyone deserves guidance, support, compassion and some love. We all mess up. In varying degrees, but not everyone has the environment or role models to be able to find their way back onto a positive path. Even when we do it’s not all plane sailing. If you’ve been wanting to support an organisation helping others (non for profit) then reach out to Samey or I and ask how you can get involved. It’s easier than you think and will positively impact the world around you. Help give a little something back. :-)
🚀🌹 Youth Justice Campaign: A Fair Go For Young People 🌹🚀 Street Industries is proud to be one of over 100 organisations and individuals who signed the Open Letter to the NSW Premier about youth justice. Youth Action NSW, the peak body for Youth Services in NSW, is spearheading this critical initiative to improve support and services for young people in conflict with the law. By listening to young people's voices, we aim to provide the help they need earlier, preventing them from coming into conflict with the law in the first place. This campaign focuses on enhancing support and services for young people before, during, and after detention. It's about more than just the conditions in detention; it's about stopping young people from going into detention and ensuring they have the resources and support to get back on track. Investing in young people is crucial because the consequences aren’t minor. We can make a difference and build a brighter future for all. This is a beautiful thing. #ChatGPT will be used as a #tool to #learn, not a tool to #cheat. Every #child, in the age of #AI, must participate in #debate and #rhetoric instead of #writing #termpapers. From the article: "...debate the merits of the bill, #lobby fellow #legislators, collaborate with the #Executive branch and finally vote on the proposed bill." "No way AI can be used to cheat in this educational mode" Neil deGrasse Tyson on Stephen Colbert. #BobRutherford #Texas

We have a couple of spots left if you would still like to register! April 18: Citizen Assemblies- Reinvigorating Civic Engagement Note: This is a morning forum, 8:30am. Join us for a discussion that will open up the idea of citizen involvement in local decision-making. Increasingly people on all sides of the political spectrum (including those unengaged) feel left out of how decisions are made. A Citizens’ Assembly is a group of people selected by lottery who are broadly representative of a community. They spend significant time learning and collaborating through facilitated deliberation to find common ground and form collective recommendations for policymakers, decision-makers, and the community. These Assemblies are sometimes called Citizens’ Juries, Panels, or Councils depending on their size and the country where they are taking place. We will discuss how this model works internationally and how it is currently being used right here in Central Oregon. More info: https://lnkd.in/gSYnjqRi

Local governments and communities need debate and conflict sometimes to make good decisions. Screaming at each other, painting other people with broad strokes, digging in without listening, and personal attacks are not debate. As I say in this article, "Deliberative democracy is still possible, and the best chances are at the local level... It sounds trite, but it really starts with listening, and with individuals resisting the divisiveness: 'Other people may be name-calling, but I'm not going to do that.'" https://lnkd.in/ejNes4XM

2wPeople have been justly outraged by the Supreme Court's granting of legal immunity to the president. They may not be aware that Congress has long held the same immunity in the exercise of its subpoena power. It can subpoena people just to harass them, and they have no legal recourse. The Congressional subpoena power, by the way, is itself a fabrication nowhere found in the Constitution.
