We mostly MISUNDERSTAND SUStainability???????? We mostly misunderstand sustainability and everyone perceives it in his own way. It is simple ?????? ‘Sustainability simply means of taking measures to protect natural resources’ In 1987, the United Nations Brundtland Commission defined sustainability as “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” When we analyze our needs, these are mostly: Water, air, land, food (animals/plants), home, health, money, transport, raw materials (plants/minerals/metals), energy (fuels), garments/shoes, transport, appliances, machines, human beings. From above it is clear that needs are actually the natural resources, which are either available in the nature as such or we convert them to the products for our use. When we protect natural resources, we don’t damage them and don’t destroy them (we use them optimally). In case of human beings (human being are also part of the natural resources), protection means the social protection (social welfare). When we protect resources, actually we take care of ‘Environment’, when we protect human beings, we take care of ‘Social’, and ‘Economic’ aspects of human beings, so we fulfill all the three pillars of sustainability.        

Does sustainability represent an objective we aim for or a shift in cultural norms? What minor adjustments can we make in our everyday routines that would influence our behavior to develop more positive and sustainable habits? Sustainability is often viewed as both a goal and a cultural change. It's a goal in the sense that we aim for a more sustainable way of living, preserving resources for future generations, and reducing our impact on the environment. However, it's also a cultural change because achieving this goal requires a shift in how we think, act, and make decisions in our everyday lives. Regarding small changes that can positively impact our sustainability habits, here are a few suggestions: 1. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: This classic mantra is still very relevant. Try to reduce waste, reuse items whenever possible, and recycle materials like paper, plastic, and glass. 2. Conserve Energy: Simple actions like turning off lights when leaving a room, using energy-efficient appliances, and reducing heating and cooling usage can make a difference. 3. Sustainable Transportation: Opt for walking, biking (do these at your own risk in summer!), public transport, or carpooling over driving alone (while a foreign concept to some, it is a great way to socialize and bonus bonus save the environment). Something we feel very strongly about. There's a common notion that sustainability is a 'niche' issue. It is not a parameter used to evaluate a commercial enterprise - which can somehow choose to be as wasteful as it wants. Some environmentally focused company or NGO will come, recycle or clean up the mess. At the heart of this notion is an assumption that sustainable and commercial consumption are mutually exclusive. The 'good for me' things are for everyone, the 'good for the planet' things are for the bleeding hearts, the do-gooders, the activists. Till we keep agreeing to this, sustainability will never be mainstream. I don't believe in fear-mongering, but the state of the world SHOULD make it obvious to everyone that sustainable practices have to be adopted at all levels. It is NOT a trade-off. Sustainability: we’ve discovered it’s one of the most important elements of any project, company, or idea. We must ask: “Will this process respect each part so that it’s able to continue in the future?” There are several main focuses in sustainability, but one I haven’t seen is the human spirit.
