𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗪𝗮𝘃𝗲! Singapore and Rotterdam reshape the future of shipping. In an era marked by urgent climate action, the maritime sector is not staying behind. The Singapore-Rotterdam Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC) stands as a beacon of innovation and sustainability, revolutionizing one of the oldest industries known to humankind. Established in August 2022, this initiative unites the world’s two largest marine fuel hubs in a bold push toward maritime decarbonization and digitalization. With 26 influential global partners ranging from fuel suppliers to financial entities, the GDSC is leveraging its extensive network to foster the use of sustainable marine fuels such as bio-methane, methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen. This collaborative effort includes heavyweight contributors like German shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd, which has committed to operating its large container vessels on zero and near-zero emission fuels. The introduction of these alternative fuels is complemented by pilot programs and working groups aimed at overcoming regulatory, cost, and technical hurdles, paving the way for broader adoption across the industry. Moreover, the GDSC isn't just about cleaner fuel. The corridor has also made significant strides in digitalization, enhancing port-to-port data exchange to streamline vessel operations between Singapore and Rotterdam. This integration of digital technology aids in optimizing port call voyages, marking a step forward in operational efficiency and environmental responsibility. As leaders like the CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Boudewijn Siemons, and MPA chief Teo Eng Dih highlight, the success of such initiatives hinges on robust public-private partnerships and international collaboration. The GDSC exemplifies how strategic alliances can accelerate the twin transition to a digital and green future in maritime transport. How can other industries draw inspiration from the maritime sector's approach to sustainability and digitalization? #GreenShipping #SustainableMaritime #DigitalTransformation https://lnkd.in/ePRNEKkQ

Have you heard of the European Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)? Well, if you are importing certain high impact raw materials (aluminium, hydrogen, iron or steel) into the EU you should have, as the transitional phase for CBAM started in October 2023! CBAM will apply a carbon price to specific imported goods, pushing manufacturing companies to source the lowest impact material as the pricing mechanism is designed to reward the most environmentally friendly version of the target materials. Although CBAM has a limited scope of materials today, by 2030 the materials list will expand to include all Emission Trading System (ETS) goods. So, are you prepared? Here's how you can prepare for the CBAM legislation: 1. Data, data, data: At the heart of CBAM lies a solid understanding of your supply chain emissions, working with your value chain to calculate and declare the embedded emissions within your products. The first step is understanding the mass of the ‘in scope’ materials your import from outside the EU, once you understand this you need to work with your supplier to calculate the embedded carbon emissions using lifecycle assessment (LCA) 2. Emission Reduction Imperative: With CBAM placing a premium on carbon emissions, the marine industry faces heightened pressure to reduce its environmental footprint. CBAM now places a direct focus on finding alternative or lower impact material solutions for the construction of marine vessels as this will not only benefit the environment but also your profit margin! MarineShift360 offers a streamlined solution to simulating the environmental savings you could make by changing materials within your construction. 3. Holistic Decision-Making: CBAM requires data-driven approaches to sustainability. MarineShift360 provides real-time monitoring and reporting tools, allowing companies to track their carbon emissions, energy consumption, and environmental performance metrics. By harnessing data analytics, companies can identify trends, benchmark performance, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to stay ahead of regulatory requirements and market expectations. In summary, CBAM legislation is reshaping the marine industry, emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and carbon mitigation strategies. Together with the sustainability experts from Anthesis Group, MarineShift360 can help you preparing for CBAM. 📢 Harnessing the #IPCEI mechanism to boost #carboncapture, #transport, and #storage in Europe! 📃 30 members of the industrial carbon management community and umbrella organisations come together to support an #IPCEI for industrial carbon management (#ICM). 🤝This broad coalition of companies across the value chain and environmental NGOs calls on JEF-IPCEI representatives to prioritize #ICM in the upcoming meeting and enhance JEF-IPCEI's role to accelerate the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate sectors. Why this matters? ➡️ Industrial carbon management is vital for Europe's #climateneutrality, as highlighted by the EU's Industrial Carbon Management Strategy, EU 2040 Climate Target, and the Net Zero Industry Act. ➡️ Lack of viable business cases and funding mechanisms remain prominent barriers for deployment in Europe. ➡️ The EU ICM Strategy plans to support an IPCEI for industrial carbon management. 💡 What are IPCEIs? IPCEIs (Important Projects of Common European Interest) unite public and private resources to undertake large-scale projects that address market failures and societal challenges, benefiting the EU economy and society as a whole. IPCEI are initiated and funded by Member States, and must involve at least four member states. Since 2023, the JEF-IPCEI has brought together Member States, Commission representatives, industry, and experts to improve IPCEI effectiveness and identify strategic technologies for future IPCEIs. #CarbonManagement #NetZeroIndustry #CCS #CCU #CDR Signatories: Bellona Europa | Carbon Capture and Storage Association | CCS Europe | CEMBUREAU | Clean Air Task Force | Climeworks | Equinor | Global CCS Institute | Groningen Seaports | Hafslund Oslo Celsio | Heidelberg Materials | IFP Energies nouvelles | IOGP Europe | Mitsubishi Heavy Industries | ORLEN S.A. | Offshore Nore | VIK Verband der Industriellen Energie- und Kraftwirtschaft e.V. | Norsk Hydro | Wintershall Dea | Uniper | Yara Europe | Energy Hub Port of Wilhelms Haven | Zero Emissions Platform | Porthos | Gasunie | OGE | ENGIE | AGROFERT, a.s.

Today, Thursday 18 April, JASANZ are proud to launch the SERI R2 Scheme at IEC/JASANZ International Conference in Brisbane. 🎉 The SERI R2 Scheme embraces the principles of the circular economy, aiming to minimise waste and maximise resource efficiency. According to Corey Dehmey, SERI Chief Executive Officer, "SERI's mission is to create a world where electronics are reused and recycled in ways that preserve the natural resources, protect our environment and protect the health and safety of workers and communities. It's a transition from simply managing e-waste to reshaping the world into a more circular economy." The SERI R2 standard sets a new benchmark for sustainability in e-waste management. Its comprehensive guidelines cover the reverse lifecycle of electronic products, from returns of new products to upgrades, trade-ins, all the way to end-of-life disposal. Moreover, the ongoing maintenance of the R2 Standard ensures its relevance and adaptability to evolving industry practices. JASANZ is now accepting applications from Conformity Assessment Bodies for accreditation to the scheme, for issuance of certification in Australia, New Zealand, and the wider Asia Pacific Region (conditioned on compliance with jurisdictional requirements on operating e-waste facilities). Learn more about the SERI R2 scheme in our latest story and podcast interview over on our blog: https://lnkd.in/gKxQxp_k #SERIR2 #SERI #JASANZ #CircularEconomy #CertificationScheme #EWaste #EWasteManagement #Accreditation
