The pressure on companies to address their impact on climate is primarily focused on their operations and manufacturing processes. But corporate philanthropy can also play an important, supporting role in a company’s overall efforts. In an article in GreenBiz, John Moon, Senior Vice President and Sustainable Philanthropy Lead at Wells Fargo notes that “By bringing a comprehensive approach, learning with pilot programs and empowering nonprofits to leverage incentives, corporate philanthropy can effectively help build resilient communities for future generations.” Read more here: https://zurl.co/0Fep #ClimateResilience #CorporatePhilanthropy #SustainableGrowth

It's been so wonderful to launch our new handbook for climate funders 'It's Up to Us' this past week at Groundswell Giving! Spearheaded by Groundswell member Stephen P., our goal with this resource is to demystify climate action and equip people with the knowledge and tools to get started and fund for maximum impact. Our sincere thanks to Teya Dusseldorp, Tom Dusseldorp, Michelle Lin, Ali Limb, Tishiko King, Lille Madden, Bec Milgrom, Adam Milgrom, Jake Milgrom-Marabel, Youth Verdict, Eisen Family Private Fund, Oranges & Sardines Foundation, Parents for Climate, FrontRunners Athletes, Australasian Centre for Corporate Responsibility (ACCR), The Sunrise Project, Grok Ventures for allowing us to include your inspiring stories of impact. As always, we were enormously lucky to be advised by a range of clever people and organisations, including Daisy Barham Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network (AEGN) Katerina Gaita Amanda Martin Claire O'Rourke Anna Rose Dusseldorp Forum Rachel Fyfe Fiona Higgins Olivia Parsonson Isabella Wiggs + Georgina Reid – teamwork is dreamwork! My immense gratitude to Stephen P. for the year of research and development he invested in this project (as a volunteer – Stephen is living proof that giving comes in many forms!) and to our talented Head of Communications Jess Bineth for her hard work and synthesis bringing this project together. Special thanks also to the talented Olivia Parsonson for developing the design concept in her "downtime". Groundswell is a teeny organisation but legends like Stephen and Liv in our community means we can always punch above our weight. We hope you have as much fun reading this report as we did making it, and encourage you to download, read, share and get in touch! Global temperatures have hit an all-time high. States across the country face increasing climate disasters. And research shows conditions will only worsen if we don't manage the harm we're inflicting on the planet. People of color, especially Indigenous stewards of our land, have known this for a long time. Nonprofit Quarterly, in partnership with the Donors of Color Network, urges philanthropy to do better in supporting the POC organizations on the ground working toward environmental justice. "Philanthropy often funds organizations working on climate change solutions, but only a tiny fraction of those dollars—just 1.3 percent—go to BIPOC-led climate organizations. BIPOC-led organizations are often working for and in the communities most impacted by climate change and environmental racism with the least amount of resources." https://lnkd.in/g3mznDQ3 #ClimateChange #EnvironmentalJustice #POC

Love this. Only One turns climate anxiety into climate action! They've cracked the code, bridging the gap between awareness and action while being brutally transparent and honest -- no sugar-coating. Crucially, Only One lives and breathes accountability. They're on a mission to track every single dime to specific impact units, so you know exactly where your money goes—right down to individual trees and corals. This mindset cuts through the philanthropic fog that often makes folks hesitant. With transparency, comes the power to hold others accountable, leading to a no-nonsense, purpose-driven effort that gets things done. #Philanthropy #ClimateActivism #Accountability #Transparency

“Put the “mother right” of self-determination at the center: This means practicing deep listening and trust of Indigenous leaders to be architects of their vision for the future. It will contribute to the goal of improving the leadership and capacity of Indigenous Peoples to realize their rights. The core of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples is the right to self-determination. Indigenous Peoples consider it the “mother right,” without which other rights lose their truth and meaning. A ready tool? Philanthropy’s framework of trust-based philanthropy is a well-articulated means by which to respect and support self-determination in its most essential form: recognizing the rights, knowledge, and power of people to themselves transform and lead.”
Re-sharing this powerful article written by The Christensen Fund CEO, Carla Fredericks. Take a few minutes to give it a read. "The way forward for climate action calls for grounding strategy and developing processes in line with rights-based practices. Do this and philanthropy can be the sister who sounds the alarm in our climate crisis and avails its tools and resources to step in and help remedy harm as good partners and allies. We can be the sister who shares the burden and danger of wading into turbulent waters to equip those fighting the currents." #climateaction #indigenousleadership #rightsbasedgrantmaking https://lnkd.in/eGK2PVFT

Packard Foundation, alongside other major US #philanthropies commit to jointly building #climate resilient #communities - a much needed stride in the right direction. It acknowledges the undeniable reality that #ClimateChange poses a direct threat to all the causes such philanthropies have championed for years. From health and education to justice, innovation, and livelihoods, the impacts of climate change infiltrate every facet of development and growth, not just in America but also globally. This commitment signals a collective recognition that #ClimateResilience is not just a niche concern but an essential component of global well-being. By setting out to (1) create a shared framework, (2) mobilize resources, (3) expand collaborations and partnerships, and (4) foster knowledge co-creation and exchange, this initiative sets a global precedent for philanthropic action on climate change. Quoting the article, "climate resilient communities are safer, healthier, more equitable, economically stronger, and sustainable in the face of a changing climate."
