The GECN Group Leadership met in Toronto in June to discuss latest and coming developments in the areas of governance, compensation, sustainability, and related areas. Hosted by Southlea, a GECN Group company, they also participated in a panel for Canadian companies which focused on commonalities and differences among the key global markets. The GECN Leadership participants included Chris Blair from South Africa, michael robinson from Australia, Stephan Hostettler from Switzerland, Robin Ferracone from the U.S., Amanda Voegeli, CFA and Ryan Resch from Canada, Simon Patterson and Stephen Cahill from the UK, and Gabe Shawn Varges, Chairman of the GECN Group. This is fascinating, and re-raises a question we've been asking for decades. The issues below are so bloody simple to fix IF you start from the right place. So, is it possible these IC Specialists (84% of the total, apparently) are starting from the wrong place? Yet again we're wondering if this is (at least partially) the result of IC Specialists trying to think and operate like external comms specialists. The very paradigm itself is wrong (much like when, in the late 19th century, people were trying to build a steam-powered submarine). It's never going to work. And there's no point trying to fix these issues from within that paradigm ("In that case, we'll just give it a longer funnel so the water can't get in. Oh, but then we'll need an even longer one in case the seas get rough." Seriously?) Given how straightforward it is to consign all these issues to history, we can't help but feel every one of them is a case of: "If I were going to Dublin, I wouldn't start from here"? What do you think?

Just one year ago nearly 300 emerging leaders from around the globe were arriving in Banff for the opening plenary of the 11th Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conference. Absolutely critical to the success of CSC2023 was the leadership of the Conference regional chairs and co-chairs and their committees who welcomed the study groups to their provinces and territories for eight days of programing around the theme of “engaged leadership for inclusive change.” The program impact speaks for itself, with a recent survey showing 99% of the delegates described CSC2023 as a personally valuable experience (75% saying extremely valuable), 94% described the Conference as more valuable than other conferences or programs they have attended, and 88% saying it made them a better leader.
