Day 2 of the HCA Pre-AU Summit Roundtable was dedicated to the theme "Building the foundations of an informed, peaceful, and prosperous continent." Keynote addresses by Mr. Stephen Tio Kauma and Lieke van de Wiel laid the groundwork for further insights on behalf of African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and UNICEF respectively, setting a robust framework for our discussions. Mo Adefeso-Olateju, PhD.-Olateju then introduced the Human Capital Africa Approach, providing a strategic lens through which to address our objectives. A major highlight of the day was the appearance of Her Excellency Sahle-Work Zewde, President of Ethiopia, who underscored the importance of foundational learning for a peaceful and inclusive continent, aligning our efforts with broader societal goals. Youth engagement took center stage with strong presentations from young voices like Fafa Abukar, Ousman Touray, Raphael Denis, and more. Panel discussions, along with video and in-person presentations—including the Foundational Learning Action Tracker (FLAT) / RAPID Framework Report by UNICEF—added depth and breadth to our conversations, fostering a holistic understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead. The day culminated in a powerful Call to Action led by Dr. Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili and Albert Nsengiyumva, emphasizing the imperative of collective action in addressing the FLN crisis. The Call to Action celebrated the leadership demonstrated by African countries thus far in addressing the learning crisis and urged all Heads of Government at the African Union Summit to take decisive steps towards achieving foundational learning goals. #HCAsummit4action
