The 2024 World Health Organization theme for World Malaria Day is "Accelerating the fight against malaria for a more equitable world." Even today, malaria continues to impact and endanger the lives of people worldwide, especially those living in vulnerable conditions. In recognition of World Malaria Day, Shelter Centre acknowledges the need to support and strengthen mechanisms for malaria prevention and control globally. I came across this quote - "Many supply chains are perfectly suited to the needs that the business had 20 years ago." As we accelerate the fight against malaria with vaccines and other initiatives underway, let us think about how our supply chain is meeting the current demand and the new order.

#DidYouKnow that national #malaria scorecards are crucial tools for partners, including End Malaria Councils and Funds in the battle against malaria? Insights from these scorecards guide partners in advocating for and mobilizing resources toward national malaria control programs or specific areas needing intervention. In 2023, gaps identified in Eswatini's #malaria scorecard regarding treatment and indoor residual spraying (IRS) coverage prompted action from End Malaria Fund Eswatini. The fund stepped in by supporting the National Malaria Program with the purchase of antimalarials totaling $21,575 and assisting with vehicle maintenance to improve IRS coverage. These measures significantly increased IRS coverage to 93% and ensured consistent treatment for severe malaria cases. Learn more about Eswatini's malaria scorecard: https://bit.ly/48vyNf3 #endmalaria

Malaria parasites require a warm temperature to complete their lifecycles, posing a major challenge in completely eradicating Malaria in warm climate regions. According to WHO, half of the world population is at risk of being infected with Malaria, rapidly increasing in five countries, with Nigeria being part of them. Elimination through targeting the only relevant reservoir - humans, using innovative strategies and environment-friendly interventions in vector management cannot be over-emphasized. At NIFDEM Consulting, we are committed to supporting national and global malaria eradication intervention to improve public health. Our Malaria Service Offering reflects our dedication to making a meaningful impact on malaria prevention, detection, treatment, and control. The fight against malaria is one of humanity’s most significant public health successes. Great progress was made in malaria control over the last two decades, resulting in a reduction in overall cases and deaths. But after years of steady declines, malaria cases and deaths are on the rise. Today, a child dies of malaria every minute. Conflict, climate change and increasing resistance to insecticides are jeopardizing the significant gains that the Global Fund partnership has fought to achieve over the last two decades. With the knowledge of these obstacles comes the power to defeat them. Fighting back with a combination of new tools and targeted prevention, testing and treatment methods is the way to accelerate progress to end malaria for good. More than ever before, we must support countries in their efforts to revitalize and sustain the fight against malaria. #WorldMalariaDay
