𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞? I had the pleasure of participating in a panel discussion at the State of the Union Conference (#SOU2024) organized by the European University Institute. Together with Catherine Fieschi and Anna Sobczak PhD, we explored critical insights: 🔹 𝑹𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑩𝒖𝒚-𝑰𝒏 𝒊𝒔 𝑪𝒓𝒖𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍: The renewable energy transition must include rural regions, ensuring it's not perceived as an elite, urban-centric project. 🔹 𝑴𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝑩𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒍 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑𝒔: Cooperation between rural regions with vast energy potential and urban areas with high energy demand is key. These partnerships must be mutually beneficial to ensure long-term success. 🔹 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑶𝒘𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑: Promoting community ownership of renewable energy production can drive the transition forward, fostering local investment and acceptance. When implemented correctly, the renewable energy transition can bridge economic disparities between regions and help overcome the urban-rural divide. The European Union, especially through its #CohesionPolicy levers, has the tools to ensure this transition benefits everyone. Capture6’s technology integrates into existing energy transition projects to unlock new value. 🔓 Energy transition projects like the Mid West Clean Energy Project (MWCEP) play a critical role in advancing both regional and nationwide decarbonization goals. The MWCEP, where Project Wallaby will live, will help Western Australia meet its carbon emissions targets and mitigate challenges posed by water scarcity in the region while accelerating broader industrial applications of these technologies across Australia. The new value we’re unlocking by integrating into the MWCEP will take multiple forms. To name a few, we’re looking to manage water produced by Pilot Energy Limited’s carbon storage operations, co-produce green hydrogen, permanently sequester CO₂ from the atmosphere and the facility’s point source emissions and generate additional freshwater for the MWCEP and surrounding communities. REN21's Andrea Ines Wainer took the stage today during the Climate Action Network International's Target Talk Series - Deep Dive 3: Sustainability of Renewable Energy. This event builds on the findings of the Renewable Energy and Sustainability Report #RESR released earlier this year. "Despite real advancements in the power sector and despite international commitments, we are still burning more fossil fuels than ever. It is clear that we are in an emergency, and the transition to renewable energy needs to happen now." 🌍 The Renewable Energy and Sustainability Report dives into the benefits of renewables and brings together diverse perspectives on best practices to mitigate the potential negative impacts of their deployment.
