Silver Range Resources Ltd (TSX-V:SNG, OTC:SLRRF) CEO Mike Power joined Proactive's Stephen Gunnion with details of the South Weepah property the company has staked, near Tonopah in central Nevada. Power said the property, south of the Weepah deposit owned by Eagle Royalty Corp, exhibits promising potential with similarities in setting and mineralization style. Initial sampling has shown significant surface mineralization, including historic results of 30.9 grams per tonne gold, indicating a potential high-grade target. To further assess and develop the site, Silver Range plans to conduct soil testing, geophysics, mapping, and alteration mapping. Power said Silver Range Resources is also keeping its previously announced non-brokered private placement financing open, with funds targeted at further exploration in the southwestern United States and for working capital. Yugunga-Nya Traditional Owners in Western Australia’s Mid-West region claim Sandfire Resources gagged them and destroyed Aboriginal heritage sites in the pursuit of a mine expansion. Last Wednesday the Traditional Owners alleged a six-month independent report from external law firm Gilbert & Tobin lacked “context, balance, and supporting information to substantiate its key findings and recommendations … a perspective crucial for fully understanding the impact of Sandfire’s actions”. The external investigation came after Sandfire notified the ASX in late December 2023 it had hired the firm to investigate “process failures” that led to the disturbance of Aboriginal heritage at its DeGrussa mine site, approximately 150km north of Meekatharra, and a decision not to inform Yugunga-Nya Traditional Owners about it. Interesting developments currently unfolding in NSW, with both the McPhillamys Gold Mine project being held up and the Bowdens Silver Mine project being put on hold. Although the two projects are unrelated, important questions arise regarding the precedents these cases may set and how they might impact the certainty of development consents for mining in NSW.

East Star Resources Plc (LSE:EST) CEO Alex Walker speaks to Proactive after the #Kazakhstan focused #gold, #copper and #RareEarths explorer released an update on the assays from drilling at the Verkhuba Deposit on the Rudny Altai VMS belt. Walker expressed satisfaction with the ongoing program, noting the need to re-assay 62 samples that exceeded the detection limit. The preliminary indications confirm the expected copper and #zinc #mineralization and showcase a promising correlation between mineralised zones and historical data. While awaiting final results, Walker highlights notable intersections, such as 10m above 1% copper and just under 8g/t of #silver. This aligns well with historical results, raising optimism for the project's potential. With upcoming assays from areas outside Verkhuba and recent fundraising of £540,000, Walker says #EastStarResources is well-funded for current and future programs. Walker anticipates significant advancements in their projects before the need for additional capital. Indigenous peoples call the place where transboundary wild salmon rivers originate the “Sacred Headwaters.” The mining industry calls it the “Golden Triangle.” A recent expert analysis highlighted that six of British Columbia, Canada’s riskiest massive mine waste dams are located on these transboundary river systems – and are predicted to “destroy ecosystems and/or kill people when they fail.” Tribes, First Nations, and Alaska municipalities are calling for a total ban on mine waste dams and a pause on British Columbia gold mining along Alaska-B.C. transboundary rivers until binding watershed protections are implemented. Bureau of Land Management Decision Will Prevent Proposed Ambler Road in Alaska’s Brooks Range In late June, the Bureau of Land Management issued its Record of Decision halting plans for the Ambler Industrial Road in Alaska’s Brooks Range. Jen Leahy, Alaska senior program manager for the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, praised the decision: "Today’s outcome is a win for local residents, Alaska Native Tribes, and over 14,000 conservation-minded hunters and anglers nationwide who advocated for preserving the enduring wild character of the Brooks Range. We commend the BLM for prioritizing these public lands for hunters and anglers, and for grounding this crucial decision in sound science and extensive public involvement." This decision follows the BLM's final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement released on April 19, which endorsed the "No Action" alternative, signaling the agency's intent to block the proposed industrial corridor. The fight for Pākiri: "I think for the first time in my life I would actually feel betrayed by my government. I've never said that before, I've never thought that before – I never thought I would think that before – but I would feel betrayed.” [Damon Clapshaw] Several local and national groups mobilised against the mining, with a variety of concerns. The groups included Friends of Pākiri Beach, the Fairy Tern Society, Forest & Bird, Mangawhai Harbour Restoration Society, Environmental Defence Society (EDS), Te Arai Interests, Te Whānau o Pākiri, and Manuhiri Kaitiaki Charitable Trust. Between these groups, experts were put forward on coastal processes, damage to the sea floor, the effects on bird (including tara iti fairy terns) and sea life and the effects on mana whenua. The quality of the evidence the various local groups supplied forced the sand mining company’s expert witnesses to change their views – and led to success in the Environment Court for the voices of Pākiri. Now, those who have been fighting against sand mining off Pākiri for years are facing another threat – the Fast-track Approvals Bill.
