NATRUE - The International Natural and Organic Cosmetics Association together with 13 other cross-sectoral associations call upon policymakers to reject the blanket ban of #environmental #claims on products containing certain substances. Belgian Presidency of the Council of European Union - such a ban would run contrary to the #greenclaims Directive's fundamental objectives of claims substantiation and informed decision-making. For #natural and #organic #cosmetics, which fundamentally comprise of mixtures of natural complex substances, such a ban would impact consumer products that are not only safe but also support sustainable innovation in-line with the twin objectives of the #eu #circulareconomy and #bioeconomy. Today AIM has co-signed with other 10 associations an industry letter to the European Parliament on the proposed amendments that would prohibit #greenclaims on products containing hazardous substances. Such a ban would affect a wide range of sectors, including products that contribute to more sustainable consumption, through longer product lifetime, product effectiveness, or resource and energy efficiency. This would have unintended negative consequences, preventing consumers from being informed about the sustainability of the product, and disincentivising the innovation to improve the sustainability profile of the product. We call on the European Parliament to reject all provisions that presume a direct incompatibility between the presence of hazardous substances and environmental claims. The Quantis team attended the Cosmetics Europe - The Personal Care Association Annual Conference 2024 last week, and we're thrilled to share some key insights from this inspiring event:   1️⃣ A vision for our industry The conference opened with an engaging plenary session featuring industry leaders like Nicolas Hieronimus, William Lauder, Thibaut Mongon, and Thomas Myers. They focused on the future of the cosmetics and personal care industry, emphasizing the essential nature of cosmetics, competitiveness, innovation, sustainability and global trade.   2️⃣ Regulatory insights Sessions on regulating ingredients outside the Cosmetic Products Regulation in the new EU institutional environment provided valuable insights. The session on the evolving regulatory framework in China was particularly enlightening, highlighting the implementation of the CSAR regulation and the new opportunities and challenges in this growing market.   3️⃣ Sustainability and transparency The EcoBeautyScore Consortium’s session showcased the development of an environmental impact assessment for cosmetic products and highlighted the progress made towards getting actual products with an environmental score in our stores. Additionally, discussions on increasing transparency and setting sustainability targets demonstrated the industry's commitment to ethical practices and nature-positive goals.   As we move forward, these discussions will undoubtedly shape the strategic direction of our industry, driving innovation and sustainability.
