#MaternalHealthAwarenessDay helps shed light on the crisis of accessing equitable maternal health care, both during and after pregnancy. #MaternalHealth is one of the three areas of focus for the Independence Blue Cross Foundation Institute for Health Equity. Today, we’re revisiting our 2023 Health Equity Forum, when Pennsylvania Representative Morgan Cephas addressed the need for stronger maternal health policy and legislation, and continued with dialogue about equity in maternal care related to Black maternal health, the modern birth center movement, the maternal care workforce, and perinatal #MentalHealth. https://lnkd.in/evMEF8zY

Although many women in the U.S. experience healthy pregnancies, there is a rise in serious illnesses and health issues during pregnancy, especially among women of color. For example, Black women consistently face a higher risk of pregnancy complications related to high blood pressure when compared to white women. This Preeclampsia Awareness Month, we highlight the work of VIBRANT MOMS led by Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. This IMRPOVE-CIP research coalition focuses on preeclampsia prevention (with low-dose aspirin), screening, and blood-pressure management to address preeclampsia in underserved women in rural and urban counties of the Texas Panhandle. The health and well-being of expecting mothers cannot be overvalued for health plans. Research has shown that plans investing in maternal programs see a $4 return for every $1 invested in their members, thanks to improved outcomes and reduced care costs. FarmboxRx customizes Maternal Health Programs to not only help support mom and baby before, during, and after pregnancy – they also help boost member satisfaction, ensuring a long-lasting relationship with their plan. In a recent member survey, we found that 89% of participants said they are more likely to renew with their plan next year due to FarmboxRx programs being in place.
