It’s out! 🎉📚🌱 Happy to share my latest research with Jun.-Prof. Dr. Anja Danner-Schröder-Schröder and Dr. Christian A. Mahringer in the Journal of Management Studies.  In our study, we unpack the role of the lived body in routine recreation in extreme contexts. We examined Restaurant Nolla, a zero-waste fine-dining restaurant in Helsinki, during the COVID-19 pandemic and find that ‘embodied connection work’ plays an integral part in actors’ attempts to establish new ways of operating. Specifically, we show how this active process of making connections between actors and actions consists of embodied imagining and embodied protecting—two interrelated practices that enable the reintegration of stakeholders and the reassembling of what matters to them. I want to thank Albert Franch Sunyer, Carlos Henriques, Luka Balac and the entire Nolla family for welcoming me into their lives during a very challenging moment. 🍷 Reflecting on an enriching visit to Vinexpo/Wine Paris last week! 🌍 Here's what stood out: 1️⃣ Global Diversity: Vinexpo/Wine Paris is truly becoming international! One of the most noticeable changes was the overwhelming presence of Italian exhibitors, necessitating the expansion into the International Pavilion. However, I believe consolidating Italy under a single roof would be better (traffic was much lower at the international Pavilion for these producers). Additionally, scheduling the event to avoid conflicting with Chinese New Year could enhance Asian attendance next time. 2️⃣ Sustainability Spotlight: The fair spotlighted eco-friendly practices and innovative packaging solutions, reflecting a growing commitment to sustainability within the wine trade. Particularly enlightening discussions occurred at the Gérard Bertrand Wines panel on Biodynamic practices and at the Waitrose & Partners panel on sustainable concepts (Loved & Found) Barry Dick MW, Clem Yates MW. 3️⃣Networking Goldmine: Meaningful connections were forged, fostering collaboration and growth opportunities across the industry. It's always a pleasure to reconnect with old friends and make new acquaintances (list too long to make individual shout-outs)! 4️⃣Growing Importance: Vinexpo/Wine Paris is increasingly rivaling Prowein, offering a strategic location, more affordable hospitality and logistics, and convenient public transport. Moreover, its timing, coinciding with Valentine's Day, adds a charming touch to our shared love for wine… and even maybe an occasion to celebrate it with your life Partner! Of course they also have their own distinct festivals and traditions: Germany 🇩🇪: Oktoberfest: the world's largest folk festival takes place in Munich. It attracts millions of visitors who want to experience German culture, beer and traditional Bavarian dress such as lederhosen and dirndls. 🎡👗 Beer culture: Germany has a strong beer tradition with over 1,300 breweries and more than 5,000 different types of beer. In 2023, the average beer consumption in Germany was around 91.6 liters per capita. 🍻 Sunday rest: In Germany, it is forbidden by law to mow the lawn or hang the washing on Sundays. So, if you need a really quiet day, move to Germany! 😴 Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿: Highland Games: These traditional events include competitions such as log throwing, hammer throwing and rope pulling. They are an important part of Scottish culture and take place annually all over the country. 🔨 Whisky: Scotland is famous for its whisky. There are over 120 active distilleries and the whisky trails in regions such as Speyside are very popular with tourists. 🥃 Kilts in everyday life: It is not uncommon for Scottish men to wear their kilts on formal occasions. Mahringer (University of Stuttgart | School of Management ) with colleagues Dr. Kathrin Sele (Aalto University) and Jun.-Prof. Dr. Anja Danner-Schröder (RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau)! 🎯🚀 The authors examine how restaurant #Nolla, which is based in #Helsinki, recreated their organizational routines that were disrupted through the lockdowns induced by hashtag #Covid-19. They find that embodiment, the human body in its environment, plays an essential role within this recreation process. The research is particularly relevant in times of #crisis, as it unpacks the process of resuming operations in detail. The paper has been published in Journal of Management Studies, a leading journal in management and organization studies.
