This study presents a suitable and comprehensive model, revised and supported by experts in Judo, for the development of judokas across the lifespan. Our findings revealed that the model contents—physical, motor, educational, and health—are entwined with its four domains, which the experts in Judo considered of utmost importance. Also, this study improves our understanding of career development and sport participation in Judo. We anticipate its use for integrating Motor Development knowledge with Judo educational, philosophical, and competition values in children, youth, adults, and seniors. Once validated by experts, we recommend that this approach be tested. As such, future studies on the judokas’ unfolding careers should investigate how the physical, motor, health, and educational factors are best entwined across distinct age categories and goals of Judo. https://lnkd.in/drAxNWe9 #JudoForAll

Judo strapping 🥋 Steve Miller (Grow Physio) Rehabilitation Specialist at British Judo Association, shows a quick strapping technique he uses on some of the judo fighters. 1️⃣ To start, lay down the anchor points with Tiger Zinc Oxide 3.8cm, one around the wrist and one below the distal palmer. 2️⃣ Once done, start applying supporting strips in a criss-cross pattern and along the middle of the palm, slightly overlapping each layer. Repeat this on the back of the hand. 3️⃣ To finish off, use Tiger Club EAB 5cm to create a figure of 8 around the straps on the hand and wrist. Secure the end of the EAB with Zinc Oxide to keep it in place. All tapes available from Tiger Tapes ➡ https://bit.ly/47MbuO5 ⛑ Whilst this video provides some great tips, please seek guidance from a medical professional or physiotherapist before attempting this taping technique. Let us know what other techniques you'd like to see from us and our partners! 💭 #Judo #BritishJudo #SportsTaping #SportsTherapy #InjuryManagement #WristStrap

Stumbled upon this picture of me fighting double Olympic judo bronze medallist Ori Sasson back in the day. I remember being very up for that match - while also being nervous. Stepping up isn’t easy. Whether it’s fighting an Olympian - or anything else that makes you feel uncomfortable. But stepping up is a skill you can learn. And it’s transferable. You do it often enough, and what you learn is that when things get rough - you can count on yourself. You learn that you have your own back. Win or lose - it doesn’t really matter. Being able to trust yourself is much bigger. #courage is just one of the lessons that judo #values teach you. If you are in #Geneva - maybe it’s something I can show you. We have adult #judo, #karate and #selfdefence classes starting soon for beginners. Drop me a message to find out more. www.swiftacademy.ch #courage #teaching #martialarts #psychology #highperformance #sport #olympics #challengestate #selfdefence #sportspsychology

A young boy who was born without a left arm was sent to Judo lessons by his mother as a way to help with his confidence. Every practice session the master taught the boy one throw. Just one technique over and over again. Several years later, it was the state Judo championships and the old master registered the young boy. The first match began and the one-armed boy grabbed his opponent and to the shock of all the spectators – easily flipped him to the ground. Instant win! The second round was a little harder but the one-armed boy again pulled off the technique – the only technique he knew, and won. The third and fourth round amazingly went the same way and the young boy found himself in the tournament final facing a much bigger, stronger and tougher opponent, who had won the tournament for three straight years. The young boy was overmatched it seemed. Te referee and the organizers of the tournament spoke to the master and asked him if he wanted to withdraw his student.. “No” said the master. “We will fight”. As the final match began the entire crowd were on the edge of their seat. The opponent stepped and grabbed the young one-armed boy and pulled him towards him. For a second it looked as if it was all over… But then the one armed boy reached with his right hand, stepped in through his opponent flat on his back, to win the match! On the drive home, the young boy asked his teacher – “Was this a set-up? Did they just let me win because I only have one arm? I only know one technique – these guys know hundreds!” The teacher replied “No – you won fair and square. But there are two reasons. You won because you mastered one of the most devastating techniques in Judo. And the only known way to defend against that throw is to grab the left arm!” Lesson from this story is what appeared to be an incredible weakness – was in fact his greatest strength. Often times the thing that we see as our weakness can be our Super Power if we lean into it. “Consistency Compounds”. #itsalwaysday1 #GrowthMindset #aws #amazon

Judo, as a sport, embodies the ideals highlighted by the United Nations. By its very nature, judo is about participation. It is about inclusion and citizenship. Judo brings individuals and communities together, highlighting commonalities and bridging cultural or ethnic divides. Judo provides a forum to learn skills such as discipline, confidence, and leadership and teaches core principles such as tolerance, cooperation, and respect. Judo teaches the value of effort and how to manage victory as well as defeat. When these positive aspects of judo are emphasised, judo becomes a powerful vehicle through which the United Nations can work towards achieving its goals. In the text, we have substituted judo for the word sport that the UN used. Source: United Nations Inter-Agency, Hartmann, D.; Kwauk, C. (2011). Judo techniques are generally intended to turn an opponent’s force to one’s own advantage rather than to oppose it directly. Well here’s a nice mental/emotional/spiritual judo move you can do: instead of trying to oppose or escape your pain leverage it instead. In fact, make it seem even worse than it is. Actually drive it to “ breaking threshold”.
