An insighful journey at the U7+ Presidential Summit on Climate Change and Sustainability. On April 11th and 12th, the President of UM6P, Hicham El Habti, participated in the U7+ Presidential Summit, hosted by Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. The involvement in this year's summit, themed "Inclusive Education for Inclusive Societies," is fostering central missions of the UM6P, which are high-quality education and sustainability. The dedication of the UM6P is illustrated by beneficial scholarships programs, adressed to 80% of the students, and multiple efforts in research and innovation, especially in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture and green technology. Participation in the Climate Change and Sustainability session showcased pioneering projects, including the Benguerir Green City project and the Green Energy Park. These initiatives are reinforcing the UM6P's role as a beacon of knowledge and progress not only in Morocco, but across Africa and beyond. From groundbreaking green hydrogen and ammonia production projects to innovations in solar energy and sustainable agriculture, UM6P is leading the way towards a greener future. The Green Tech innovations, such asthe Africa Smart City Forum and the TOURBA project on carbon farming, highlight the drive towards utilizing technology for sustainable development. Partners, Alumni, and global stakeholders are invited to join in this journey towards sustainability and innovation. Collaboration is encouraged to expand the impact on climate change and sustainability for the current and next generation. The European Research and Innovation Days 2024 (EU Science, Research and Innovation) almost completely culminate my three-week stay in Brussels holding fruitful meetings and participating in events seeking to both create and strengthen stable collaborations, reliable in the short, medium and long-term with Leitat Technological Center. Europe’s critical juncture in its green energy strategy needs a decisive shift towards a green, fair and resilient solar PV supply chain, facing the current infrastructural and economic bottlenecks. 🚨Insights from the final conference and project meeting of ENPORProject! 👉The final #ENPOR conference and project meeting that was held in Brussels on 16 November 2023 shed light on the assessment of energy poverty within the European Private Rented Sector (PRS), encompassing an evaluation of existing #EU policies and a forward-looking exploration of necessary enhancements. The discussions were also focused on the project’s developed solutions and #tools that aim to guide #policymakers and practitioners towards effective, #sustainable #strategies to combat #energypoverty on the PRS. ⚡ Over the past 3 years, ENPORProject has achieved the adaptation and implementation of #energyefficiency policies in 7 counties (Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Croatia, Austria, Estonia and Greece), also monitoring their impact through the #EnergyPovertyDashboard that was developed within the project. 👏Many #kudos to all participants for engaging in such constructive discussions. 📢 Workshop on integrating green skills into higher education and research: addressing renewable energy challenges   🌍 As the world accelerates towards renewable energy, the necessity for integrating green skills within academia becomes increasingly evident. Addressing this, the Union for the Mediterranean 🤝, in partnership with the Algerian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the European Training Foundation, PAERADIGMS, and supported by the German Development Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH), is organising a critical workshop in Algiers on 12-13 June 2024.   🎓 The transition to sustainable energy presents both challenges and opportunities. Academia is uniquely positioned to prepare the workforce of tomorrow with the skills needed to navigate and lead innovation in this field. 📅 Reflecting on the 6th International Conference on Energy, Environment, and Sustainable Development (EESD) A few years back, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the 6th International Conference on Energy, Environment, and Sustainable Development (EESD). This event was a remarkable gathering of scholars, researchers, and students from various regions of Pakistan and around the world, who came together to present their research articles and papers on critical topics related to energy, environment, and sustainable development. Engaging with experts from different countries who shared innovative ideas and groundbreaking research was truly inspiring. I attended numerous presentations that covered a wide range of topics, from renewable energy technologies to environmental conservation strategies and sustainable development practices. The networking opportunities allowed me to connect with thought leaders and peers, fostering collaborations and expanding my professional network. Participating in stimulating discussions broadened my understanding of global energy and environmental challenges and solutions. 🌿 Exciting insights from the EnergyProspects team! 🌍 On January 26, our researchers, Dr. Jānis Brizga and Dr. Ērika Lagzdiņa, had the privilege of participating in a high-level expert forum in Riga focused on the European Green Deal. The forum delved into the question, "Is the implementation of the Green Deal an opportunity for improving the quality of the social ecosystem in Latvian municipalities and local communities?" 💬 Key stakeholders, including the European Commission, ministries, entrepreneurs, the banking sector, municipalities, scientists, and local communities, came together to discuss various facets of the Green Deal. 🤝 Our researchers brought a valuable perspective, particularly in the context of energy citizenship communities. Local governments highlighted challenges hindering the green transition, such as lack of trust, bureaucratic hurdles, informational obstacles, limited funding, and suitability of renewable technological solutions. Interestingly, these challenges align with the findings of our EnergyProspects PESTEL analysis. 📊 The consensus was that the Green Deal positively influences the values and business models of communities. However, it's crucial to navigate compromises between interests and opportunities, motivating communities by showcasing the tangible benefits. 🌱 One key takeaway emphasized the importance of citizens' awareness and belief in the potential impact of their participation in politics.
