Do you want to start a career that makes a real change to the lives of people? We have positions available in our social care team where you can help us make a positive difference in our communities. Our award-winning children social care worker Omaid Badar is not just an inspiration for how he has overcome obstacles but tells his story on his drive and desire to help others by working for Kirklees Council. In 2023 he was named national Social Worker of the Year ahead of entries from around the country in the most prestigious event for social work in England. Omaid has overcome a traumatic childhood in Afghanistan, only arriving in England during his teenage years. He lost his father and brother at a young age before spending his formative years in a refugee camp and arriving in England alone at the age of 14. Unable to speak any English and entering care, that did not stop Omaid and his determination earned him 11 GCSEs. He later gained a place at university and has been a qualified social worker for five years. He now helps children and families enjoy happier lives in our borough. And you can do that too by joining our social care team. Help us make our communities a safer, healthier and happier place to live and work – with a career that offers great benefits and flexible working. Supporting People’s Futures 🫀 Another of our 4 wonderful #KeepTheBeatAlive films. We have 14,000 people in South Lanarkshire living in poverty, many experiencing in-work poverty. The magnificent Hamilton Citizens Advice Bureau feature here, who along with their counterparts in Clydesdale, Rutherglen & Cambuslang, and East Kilbride, are experiencing a huge surge in support requests around food and fuel insecurity advice. It’s 2024, in Scotland, we need to do better at tacking the root causes. Hamilton CAB also do a great job in providing volunteering opportunity as part of an employability journey, including accredited training. On the same theme, 12 years ago, Nicole started off as a volunteer with the fantastic Blantyre Soccer Academy. Today she is a full-time employee, co-ordinating the Para Football Team and supporting the Clubs 600 members alongside formidable Club Chair Jimmy Whelan. What on earth would these hundreds of families in Blantyre’s case, thousands of families across South Lanarkshire more broadly, do without physical activity, sports, leisure, arts, drama and culture opportunities? Essential in supporting people’s futures. Rowan from the superb WISTON LODGE also features, reminding us of the importance of youth work and outdoor education through his Trainee Activity Instructor experience. The third sector in South Lanarkshire need your help. We have 1,420 organisations of all different shapes, sizes and purposes. Many expertly support people’s futures. You don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone. To all local, but especially national, policy shapers and decision makers. Please hear our call, take on our 3 big asks; 1️⃣ recognise our value 2️⃣ be smarter with finding, and 3️⃣ meaningfully engage with us So many wonderful humans going above and beyond time after time, making the magic happen in our communities. Please, help us #KeepTheBeatAlive 🫀
Third sector organisations in South Lanarkshire are supporting people in to quality employment. Without them, there would be less opportunities to volunteer and make a positive contribution to communities. Let's Keep The Beat Alive. ➡️ keepthebeatalive.org.uk/

Striving for Greater Impact in Humanitarian Work As a committed humanitarian professional with experience in roles like Community Worker and Protection Assistant, I have always been driven by the desire to serve vulnerable populations and create lasting change. Over the years, I’ve honed my skills in protection, psychosocial support, and community engagement, working alongside diverse teams to bring hope and dignity to those in need. Looking ahead, my professional goal is to advance into roles that allow me to contribute on a broader scale, such as a Protection Assistant. I am eager to continue learning, collaborating with stakeholders, and applying innovative approaches to improve lives in the communities I serve. I believe growth comes from both experience and continuous learning. That’s why I recently completed certifications in Psychosocial Support and Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights, which have deepened my understanding of the challenges and opportunities in this field. I’d love to hear from others in the humanitarian sector: What steps have you found most impactful in advancing your careers while staying true to your mission? Let’s connect and inspire one another toward greater impact. #HumanitarianWork #CareerGoals #SocialWork #CommunityEngagement #ProtectionWorker #HelpAgeInternational

Over the past year, the non-profit sector has faced significant challenges in accessing funding for employment and skills training. With youth employment rates declining and an oversubscription to funding programs, vital services are at risk. As we approach the 2025 Election cycle, NACY is advocating for permanent and secure funding to support youth employment, including expanding the Canada Summer Jobs program. As a dedicated social worker, community development enthusiast, and advocate for equity, I am deeply troubled by the proposed bill to increase the financial gains of judicial officers and national assembly members. In a time when countless citizens are grappling with economic hardships, it's disheartening to see such proposals prioritized over pressing country needs. How can we justify increasing the financial benefits of those already well-compensated when our average police officer receives less than 5000 dalasis monthly? These are the very individuals who risk their lives daily to ensure our safety and security, yet they struggle to make ends meet. Our resources should be channeled towards sustainable development, education, healthcare, and addressing the urgent challenges our communities face daily. Instead of widening the gap between the privileged few and the struggling many, we should be working to uplift those who dedicate their lives to public service and the well-being of our nation. Let’s urge our leaders to rethink their priorities and focus on the greater good of our nation. It's time for policies that uplift everyone, not just a select group. Opportunity Alert: UNICEF Innovation has advertised several Intern roles including for the #MentalHealth #Innovation Portfolio Please share this opportunity with your network https://lnkd.in/eDdiYx-B Mental Health Innovation Portfolio: Mental health issues are a leading cause of mortality, disease, and disability for children, especially adolescents. One in four people experience a mental health condition in their lifetime. And mental health conditions contribute to over 10% of the global burden of disease. Children around the world face a mental health crisis, but UNICEF is in the forefront to act, protect and care for the mental health of the next generation - and they've made it a global priority for 2021-2025. At OOI the focus is on systems-level change, by and with young people, for lasting impact. They take a multi-layered, inter-sectoral approach, recognizing the links between mental health and other areas like the arts (music, sports), tech, community-led support, education and healthcare. And they work to strengthen connections between different mental health interventions to ensure a holistic approach - developing innovative solutions to scale up quality mental health care and reach more children in need. #HelpMakeADifference #Children #Rights #Welfare Dr. Victor Ladele Steve Appleton
