We’ve had a lot of conversations about the importance of encouraging young people to open up – so this felt like an important reminder for Youth Mental Health Day. As parents, carers and concerned family members, conversations about mental health can be tricky – we all know that. It can be easy to worry about what we say to young people and how we support them. The most important thing to remember is that encouraging a young person to think about their mental health and wellbeing might encourage them to access support. Early intervention can be crucial in teaching young people coping strategies which they can carry into adulthood. Let’s embrace more conversations about mental health with our young people. They help! #YouthMentalHealthDay #MentalHealth #Wellbeing #Charity #Kent

We feel that there can never be enough awareness when it comes to mental health, however, awareness only gets us so far. We need to put this into action to benefit the world and all people living with mental illness. Here are some ways you can put that knowledge into action: - Start conversations about mental health early with children - Teach yourself and others about the use of harmful language - Actively destigmatise mental health -Donate or fundraise for mental health charities - Know what real mental health symptoms look like (TV isn't always the best portrayal) - Treat people with compassion and empathy while avoiding prejudice and judgement - Advocate for better funding and access to mental health services - Ask your managers to have Mental Health First Aid training at your place of work #worldmentalhealthday

It's 'Time To Talk' Day, an initiative promoted my Mind and Rethink Mental Health as a perfect opportunity to start a conversation about mental health. Here at Launchpad we offer free counselling to clients who would like it. Losing your home or being at risk of losing your home is incredibly traumatic and isolating. It is always lovely to hear when those who have felt unworthy, lost and sometimes invisible, find a purpose and have improved self-esteem after working alongside one of our counsellors. Counselling provides a confidential, non-judgemental setting where Launchpad clients are able to talk freely while receiving emotional support, gaining new perspectives on life and getting help with the issues at hand. It aims to support clients in expressing their thoughts and feelings about what is happening in their life. It can help people to understand more about how they deal with thoughts and feelings and the situations they may find themselves in. It is a positive step to take and our support workers make referrals with clients’ who are fully on board. #TimeToTalk #support #homelessness #charity #homeless #rdguk #goodmentalhealth

Every year, #InternationalStressAwarenessWeek looks to raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with #stress and #mentalhealth issues. Stress is a state of worry or tension caused by difficult situations. It is a natural human response which everyone experiences to some degree, however the way we respond to stress makes a huge difference to our personal #wellbeing. The Mental Health Foundation reports that 6 out of 10 young people have felt so stressed by the pressure to succeed that they have felt unable to cope. They also report that 47% of young people have felt so stressed by body image they have felt overwhelmed and unable to cope. Here at LYP we recognise that the young people we work with daily experience stress in many forms. At each stage of our continuum we aim to provide support to help young people manage these stressors. This can take the form of speaking with a youth worker about self-esteem at our youth cafes BFree and BYouth, experiencing the calming benefits of spending time in nature whilst climbing a mountain as part of our Into the Wild project, or learning healthy coping mechanisms for stress in a counselling session with our Counselling and Emotional Well-Being team. A relational approach is woven through all our projects and we believe that by providing a safe, open space for young people we can help to reduce stress levels and the stigma associated with it. #youngpeople #charity #youthcharity

💡How does your school support mental health? 🧠 The UK Mental Health Charity, The Mental Health Foundation, suggest that one in eight children in the UK suffer with a mental health issue during childhood - equating to 2.7 million children nationally. Whether training staff to better recognise the signs or working together with parents and carers to create support plans, schools must develop a positive culture that embraces the significance of mental health and its impact on learning - hear from SFE Adviser Lucie Welch below to find out more 🎙️ Tap the link to explore how we can help your school develop a positive approach to mental health and wellbeing 👉 https://ow.ly/wwSb50QcNOs #SchoolSupport #Schools #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthSupport #StudentMentalHealth
