Truly they play a MAJOR role in the success and well-being of each other. Not only if it done correctly will it drive economic growth, but it can also enhance the quality of life for everyone involved. For example: Mike Morse - 🎒 Mike realized there was an overwhelming need for backpacks and supplies for the Detroit Public School students. He took on that mission and as of last year over 300,000 backpacks were donated to Michigan students. 🐶😻 Mike hosts Meet Your Best Friend event, where not only does he host the event two times a year and donates to the Michigan Humane, but he also pays for pets to be shown on local TV and will pay for those featured pets adoption fees! 👨⚖️ Mike has also stepped out of his comfort zone (Personal Injury) into criminal defense to help free Michael Anthony Griffin, a man who had spent over 13 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. David L. Thomas, MBA - 🏍 David and his team believe in boots on the ground with big and small events for their communities. They get in front of their audience with these events, and pull their members into building the community around these charities need/want. When businesses invest in their communities they improve the environment they operate in. In turn, these improvements lead to a better quality of life for their residents. It is about understanding the community's need, supporting the local causes, and contributing to a shared vision. This builds trust, loyalty, and long term relationships. What is the value of ”Take Your Daughter to Work Day? We think it is education and empathy, so the child knows what the parent does daily, but it is so much more. It instills lifelong work values. Meahgan Gibson attended a “Take Your Daughter to Work Day” at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. To this day she reminds me of a few choice words I stated during a staff meeting but she also pursued a career in Leisure and Hospitality. More importantly she picked up values like; everybody is critical to success (especially the lowest paid hourly associates), every person has a story, treat people with dignity and respect, and if they have a name tag, user their name. Grow by trying new things that others shy away from. Powerful words are “thank you” and “can you help me”, and assisting others even if you do not have time.  Today this was in my feed. I had no idea she was working on this.  Biscuits and socks, who knew? But more importantly, a young professional (from a generation many professionals belittle) leading a project that reflects well on the brand and does good for the community. Also hats off to Dennis Pfaff, Maple Street Biscuit Company and Cracker Barrel for creating an organization culture where young professional growth occurs. Take your daughter to work and as a leader, your relationships matter more than you know. #cio #leadership

This is going to be a bit of a long post and I'm sure it will be met with some negative feedback, but here goes. So often on this platform, I read post from former broadcasters, about "freeing themselves" from the shackles of a business that no longer cares for its communities and eats its young. They advocate for others to join them and finally have a "life you can call your own". Yes; I know. The industry is not what it was when many of us made the decision to join its ranks. And I know as well as anyone the toll the hours, demands and unpredictability of the business can take on your family. Shout out to my husband of 33+ years and two adult children that know no other life with me. But here's the thing, the problem may not be the industry but the people you surround yourself with. Because last week, was one of the most rewarding of my career as a local broadcaster, because I am surrounded by the right people, who are committed to the core values of this calling. What WXII 12 Triad CW did in conjunction with our community partners at Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC and the #RedCross to support our neighbors in Western North Carolina is why we should *all* want to be local broadcasters. Our license calls on us to serve in the best interest of our communities. And I am so proud of how we not only served but led the relief efforts here in the Piedmont-Triad. And it's why you have to ask yourself is it the industry or perhaps the people I work for and with? Finally, if you have it in your hearts and wallets to give, please do. Today we launched a new self help tool for people facing family violence - a Home of Your Own. It's about understanding your rights, and taking action. We know that family violence is a leading cause of housing insecurity for women and children, who represent three-quarters of people accessing homelessness services. We also know the numbers of people at risk continues to grow and that the impact of violence and homelessness radiates out into the community. This tool was co-designed with women who've lived experience of family violence and homelessness, together with frontline community workers. By answering a few anonymous questions about their situation, renters facing family violence can learn about their rights, and be directly supported to take practical steps in maintaining or accessing safe housing, including by creating personalised documents to communicate with their rental providers.  Please share with anyone who might need it.
