Credible People Leader with experience across: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Wellbeing, Accessibility, Colleague Experience, Colleague Engagement & Communication, Leadership Development and Talent
There are 16 million people living with disabilities across the UK, making up 24% of the UK’s total population. Many disabled people use Evri’s services, and those of other parcel couriers, each and every day – this enables some disabled people to retain a level of independence, and often provides them with access to medication, medical equipment, and supplies which can be critical in managing a disability 💊 💡Following Ofcom’s review of the postal sector in 2022, we commissioned the RiDC (Research Institute for Disabled Consumers) to conduct our own in-depth research and analysis with a panel of disabled consumers who regularly use the services of parcel couriers across the UK. This research has since helped us to shape our new accessibility policy and process that enables us to better meet the needs of our disabled consumers 📃 Last week, we launched a brand-new option for our disabled customers – when you receive an email notification from Evri with your parcel’s ETA, as a disabled consumer you’ll now have the option to select a delivery instruction that works for you, and your disability. You can now choose from three specific accessibility options, which have been designed with the support of RIDC – once you’ve selected your delivery instruction, our couriers will be notified and will be better positioned to complete a successful delivery that meets your needs 🕰️ We’re not stopping there, though - we’ll continue to evolve this over the next 12-18 months and beyond. If you have any feedback from using this service, please drop them in the comments below – we’ll use your feedback to keep evolving the work we’re doing to make sure we’re getting it right ✅ You can read our full accessibility statement, and delivery policy for disabled consumers by clicking here: www.evri.com/accessibility Huge congratulations to an incredible team from across Evri who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this happen with a tight deadline, heading into our busiest time of year. This will make such a huge difference to many of our disabled consumers - myself included 💙 #Evri #EvriDelivery #OfcomRegulation #DisabledConsumers #Accessibility #AccessibleDeliveries

According to the Federal Transit Administration, nearly 20% of all transit stations in the U.S. aren't accessible to people with disabilities and don't fully comply with the Americans with Disabilities act. Things need to change #ASAP. Senators introduce bill, All Stations Accessibility Program (ASAP) Act, to make public transit more accessible. #Transportation #TransportationInfrastructure #Accessibility #Disability https://lnkd.in/eMAa26az

🚨Alert: Elevators are not part of the Long Island Rail Road Accessibility Project. 🤔This news is alarming for those who are dependent on elevators for access to the station. 😔It is unfortunate that these much-needed improvements are not yet part of the plans. 🤔The LIRR Accessibility Project has been planned for years and was finally approved in 2018. 🚊It was to make it easier for people with disabilities to access stations. 🤔However, there is still a lot of work to be done, and elevators are not part of the plan yet. 🤔This is a major issue for the disabled community who rely on elevators to access the station. 🙏We need to continue to push for accessibility improvements, especially when it comes to elevators. 📢We need to raise our voices and make sure our concerns are heard. 🤔We must continue to push for full accessibility in all public places, and this includes the LIRR. 🙌Let's all work together to make sure everyone can access the station. ✊ #LIRR #AccessibilityRights #DisabilityRights REClifts

🎶 We took the *accessible* train going aaanywhere 🎶 Good news! 🗞️The MBTA won a grant to improve accessibility on the Green Line. The Green Line is the oldest subway line in the country—nearly all stations were built before the ADA, so a lot of work is necessary to make them accessible to people with disabilities. What good accessibility news have you seen in your community lately? Let us know in the comments! 🚃 🚃 🚃 #Accessibility #BostonAccessibility #PublicTransportation #Boston #AccessibilityNews

Disabled people take 38% fewer journeys than non-disabled people - a figure that hasn't changed for the last decade. There are many reasons but, cost aside, they are all related to accessibility - the challenges of planning a journey online, the need to organise assistance, a lack of disabled parking spaces, lifts being unavailable or out of order, vehicles being inaccessible to wheelchairs, information not being captioned, available in Braille, BSL or via a hearing loop... and more. That's why the National Centre for Accessible Transport (ncat) aims to make transport accessible for all. As a partner in the organisation, we are managing the panel of disabled people whose views and experiences will be vital to developing systems for the future. It's called the CAT panel (Community of Accessible Transport) and we want a broad range of experiences, ethnicities, genders, ages and geographical viewpoints within it. Whether you commute on a daily basis or take the train on holiday once a year, or you'd like to travel but can't because of the barriers, you can get involved. We'd love you to be part of this - follow the link below. https://lnkd.in/eKM2kAHg #AccessibleTransport #AccessibleTravel

We're celebrating being 60 years old this month, and looking back at how the focus of our work has changed over that time. The '70s saw a real shift in us moving away from consumer issues generally to examining the needs of disadvantaged consumers. Testing so-called 'invalid trikes' was among the projects we completed. These ice blue three wheelers were a common sight on roads at the time. While they gave disabled people a degree of independent mobility, they were criticised for being single-seaters, meaning disabled people couldn't travel with their families. Accessible transport is still a focus of our work although now it considers how disabled people's needs are integrated into common design, not something that sets them apart. The National Centre for Accessible Transport (ncat) is working towards inclusive transport solutions and you can be part of it. Paratransit operations, in my opinion, are one of the most difficult services to provide in the transportation industry. There are options available to you to offer an excellent customer experience AND some cost relief. This article tags all the people and says all the things - please have a look - and let’s change how we provide Federal Transit Administration compliant, paratransit services! UZURV – The Adaptive TNC - where partnerships are valued and the rider benefits.
The American Public Transportation Association and agency leaders across the country are doing amazing work reimaging how their #paratransit programs provide the best possible service for riders. Metro Magazine put a spotlight on these efforts, inspired by a panel discussion at the APTA TRANSform conference last fall. That discussion included Ron Brooks, our Senior Director of Policy and Stakeholder Engagement. The article, "The Paratransit Evolution is Here, But Where is it Headed?" is a must-read for anyone with a stake in #equitable and #accessible transit. Industry leaders, Chris Pangilinan, VP of Paratransit at Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), and Mike Roth, IndyGo Deputy Chief Transportation Officer, lay out recommendations to engage with riders, to look holistically at paratransit programs, and leverage new ways to improve service. And note, they are doing this without breaking their budgets or sacrificing equity and accessibility. UZURV COO Ned Freeman summed things up with his observation on where the industry is heading, “We know it’s possible to deliver on the ADA promise without compromise, and at the same time lower the cost and increase the quality of service for communities.” https://lnkd.in/dZREdr7k

Critical perspectives for electeds, transportation planners and transportation agencies (everybody, really!) to consider here. Especially crucial is recognizing the impact robust, accessible transit can have w/r/t access to economic opportunities for people with disabilities, who continue to experience under- and unemployment at rates far higher than "abled" people. https://lnkd.in/g23YMfBz?

Did you know that nearly 80% of Africa's population relies on public transportation for their daily commute? However, for marginalized communities, such as individuals with disabilities, accessing these vital services can be a challenge. It is high time that we work towards creating a more inclusive transport landscape that caters to the diverse needs of all individuals. Here are four strategies that can help make public transport systems more accessible to marginalized communities: 1️⃣ Inclusive Infrastructure: Investing in infrastructure that is designed to accommodate individuals with disabilities is essential. By ensuring that buses, trains, trams, and subways are accessible, we create a strong foundation for an inclusive society. Let's make public transport a vehicle that everyone can comfortably and safely use. 2️⃣ Customized Services: Small adjustments can go a long way in enhancing the experience of persons with disabilities. Equipping public service vehicles with assistive devices, providing audio announcements, and making transport stops more accessible are simple yet effective measures that can ensure a seamless journey for everyone. 3️⃣ Sensitization and Training: It is vital to sensitize and train public service operators, such as drivers and conductors, on how to best assist individuals with disabilities. This not only enhances the overall experience but also guarantees the safety and comfort of all passengers. Let's create a culture of inclusivity on our public transport networks. 4️⃣ Infrastructure Adaptations: Building with resilience and adaptation in mind is crucial for creating an inclusive transport system. By considering the diverse needs of marginalized communities, including those with mobility impairments, we can ensure that no one is left behind. Let's build bridges that connect everyone! According to recent studies, a well-designed, accessible public transport system can boost productivity and economic growth by up to 7%. It is not only a matter of social justice but also of economic empowerment. Let's create transportation networks that leave no one behind and foster equality of opportunity for all. Join me in working towards a future where public transport is truly inclusive and accessible for everyone, regardless of ability or background. Together, we can make a difference and build a society where mobility is a right, not a privilege. #AccessibilityMatters #InclusiveTransport #SocialJustice [Statistics Source: World Bank] Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani LAMATA-NG Thompson O.
