We are talking about a combination of missiles, guided aerial bombs and drones, as evidenced by the latest air attacks of the Russian Federation on the Ukrainian rear.

Germany Allocates €1.2 Billion for Short-Range Air Defense Capability The German government has received approval from lawmakers to spend €1.2 billion ($1.3 billion) on a new short-range air defense capability based on the Diehl Defence-made IRIS-T missile. The funding will cover the integration of short- and medium-range interceptors on the Boxer vehicle, radar, and command-and-control equipment. This initiative addresses a capability gap in protecting deployed forces against drones, missiles, and aircraft since the retirement of key air-defense platforms in the mid-2000s. The prototype of the new capability is expected to be completed by 2028. Rheinmetall supplying European customer with further Skynex air defence systems Rheinmetall has been awarded a further contract to supply Skynex air defence systems to a European customer. The systems will enhance the customer’s ability to defend itself against aerial threats. The order has a value in the lower three-digit million euro range. The deliveries will take place over the course of 2025 and, as with the initial contract, will also include the associated Rheinmetall made HX trucks. Relying on automatic cannon-based air defence, Skynex lends itself especially well to very short-range contexts where guided missiles are ineffective. Moreover, the use of programmable 35mm Ahead ammunition, as developed by Rheinmetall for this purpose, is significantly less expensive than comparable guided missile-based systems. Equally important: 35mm ammunition cannot be influenced much less jammed by electronic countermeasures when fired.  The success of the self-propelled “Flakpanzer” Gepard antiaircraft system in Ukraine underscores the effectiveness of 35mm gun-based air defence against aerial targets, especially cruise missiles and drones. #Military #Defence #Europe #AirDefence #Missile #Drone https://lnkd.in/eiVca4pF

🇮🇳 Indian Army’s 'Man Portable Counter-Drone System' Revolutionizes Modern Combat This is the first Counter Drone System being inducted into the Indian Defence Forces in the man-portable category, and the system is being deployed at multiple locations across various Commands in the Indian Army. Man Portable Counter Drone System (MPCDS) are effective because: ◾️ They neutralize drones carrying illegal weapons and narcotics; ◾️ Jam and detect enemy drones within a radius of 5 kilometers; ◾️ They are low-cost, high-impact weapon solutions; 🗣 "It should be deployed at all strategic installations with a high threat level - so air force bases/stations close to the LoC/LAC (India's borders with Pakistan and China), and other similar sites at sensitive locations," Siddhant Hira, Non-Resident Fellow at the US-based Irregular Warfare Initiative (IWI) said.

Short analysis of recent events on the Iranian-Israeli "crossfire": Iran shot at Israel more than 300 projectiles (SSM/cruise missiles and drones). Result: 99% were destroyed in air, 0 damage to Israel. Israel, allegedly, launched 3 drones (quadcopters) towards S300 SAM system protecting sensitive Iranian military site. Result: system destroyed. Conclusion: It's not only the amount of weapons your army has, its the quality of the intelligence (to raise the alert) and the quality of the air defence systems (to eliminate the threat). It's not surprising that when RUS-UKR war started, UKR president asked from Israel "two things only": Iron Dome and Pegasus (link in first comment)

It’s not “if” but “when.” I never read about the below types of attacks without applying some theory to them. For example, in my American Military University dissertation research, pursuing the automation of AI context, I’ve reduced the work and writing of Susan Gelman, Tamim Ansary, and Neil Postman to a theory of decision-making called Environment, Tools, and Communication, roughly following the essentialism pattern of biology, physics (to include technology), and psychology. Called ETC, I argue it informs every aspect of every choice a person makes. In essence, people will do what what they can do (or “feel they can” or “…must” do). I read books by Peter W. Singer (especially “Burn In”), articles like the below from Travis Hord (or often Robert du Mont or Prescott Paulin), or receive input from my many other tech-forward academia and professional connections, and I wonder when this type of fight will become commonplace on Western streets. The democratization of the defense industry won’t stop at GPS and the Internet. Low tech drone warfare is already here in North America. For instance, when will a small drone conduct bank fraud, an armed robbery, or a retaliatory gang strike. For those unaware, drones have been used quite a bit by gangs/cartels in Mexico. Are the National Defense University or National Intelligence University talking about this? Are the services universities? Who else is addressing this? How do we stop this from being a commonplace threat our children and their children face? My work seeks to understand the black box of AI and match drone to drone. Is there a better way? Ukraine receives more defense support, including a Mistral air defense system and a third Patriot air defense system. Ukraine received short-range Mistral anti-aircraft missile systems and missiles for them from Estonia. The Mistral is a modern anti-aircraft missile defense system designed in France to defend against helicopters and aircraft. At the same time, Germany confirmed the arrival of the third Patriot air defense system in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Latvia has prepared its next batch of aid for Ukraine with 2,500 drones worth €4M, which will be provided gradually during July as part of the drone coalition led by Latvia. The first shipment of 300 drones will arrive in the next few days, it was confirmed in Vilnius on July 5. For this year, Latvia has allocated €20M to the drone coalition, of which more than €10M is allocated for purchasing drones from the Latvian defense industry. In April and May, 135 combat drones and EW equipment worth €1M were handed over. On March 6, the first of two advanced Saab 340 Airborne Early Warning (AEW) aircraft has arrived in Poland. The procurement of these radar reconnaissance aircraft from Sweden and Saab, a deal finalized in July 2023 for SEK 600 million (approximately EUR 52 million), represents a strategic enhancement of Poland’s defence capabilities. The Saab 340 AEW aircraft, adapted from the Saab 340 regional turboprop airliner, plays a pivotal role in surveillance and command operations. It is equipped with the cutting-edge Erieye AEW/AEW&C system, boasting an active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar that sits atop the aircraft’s fuselage. This state-of-the-art radar system has the capability to track both airborne and maritime targets over distances exceeding 550 kilometers (342 miles), significantly extending Poland’s surveillance reach and enhancing its national security.
