I am at the 20th Florence Air Forum with the title « Assessing the airport ecosystem: which way forward » by the Florence School of Regulation. I will contribute to the session « Revolutionizing Airport Ecosystem Management » sharing Genève Aéroport approach based on stakeholder collaboration with 🛫Innovations and new initiatives discussed, developed and adopted by all stakeholders that address the need for quality and affordable connectivity, for advancing our industries actions to support the climate transition, and for assuring social equitability. 🛫Slot regulations better adapted to the needs of climate transition, allowing for a more qualitative development. 🛫Airport charges allowing to share with airlines success attaining climate transition goals but also improvements on social equitabilty. 🛫Ground handling rules need to assure competition but without introducing a downward race with an important social impact. This forum that also allows to share our views with the European Commission.

Very fruitful exchanges today with Kurt Vandenberghe - Director General of DG CLIMA at the European Commission on how to progress decarbonisation for aviation, the role of airports and the challenges involved in implementing the EU’s Fit for 55. Lots of common understanding on what we at ACI EUROPE call ‘the mother of all challenges’ - as effective climate action is no longer just about our license to grow, but about our license to operate. In particular, shared views 👍that the way forward is not about reducing air connectivity, but ensuring we take the greenhouse gases out of it while safeguarding its socio-economic benefits. There is no doubt that industry and policy makers will need to work ever closer with each other to achieve that - and this is someting we together with our #Destination2050 partners are calling for through an ´EU Pact for Sustainable and Competitive Aviation’ with the next Commission. As ever, we are very grateful for the support DG CLIMA has given over the years to Airport Carbon Accreditation - many thanks especially to Damien Meadows for his expertise, advice and directions through the programme’s Advisory Board. Farnborough Air Show: £100m for green air travel ✈️🟢 The government has announced more than £100 million of government-industry funding for cutting-aerospace tech projects to support greener air travel. It comes as the latest figures from the aerospace industry’s trade body ADS show the sector contributed £38 billion to the UK economy in 2023. A big milestone with the first transatlantic flight to use only Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for the journey. But, as the expert points out, it is not possible to make sufficient SAF for all aviation at this point. It will probably take several decades.
