Magnetic Resources NL ASX:MAU, MD George Sakalidis “The Lady Julie North 4 Resource has been the prime drilling focus as reported in periodic releases to the ASX. It has multiple stacked lodes with a number of thick intersections that have not been closed off at depth. The initial deeper drilling started on the 25 January 2023 and has expanded in subsequent months to a 95-hole RC program for 16,356m. Drilling is continuing, with holes in excess of 400m depth, which is expected to increase the current resource at LJN4 of 13.1Mt at 2.02g/t for 852,000oz at a 0.5g/t cut off (Table 2). This LJN4 deposit sits within a regional structure called the Chatterbox Shear Zone that extends over a 12km length within the Magnetic tenements. This shear extends southwards of LJN4 and has had initial AC and RC drilling completed and some anomalous intersections that will be followed up with some shallow RC drilling for the purpose of finding further gold deposits. Drilling in the last 6 months included diamond drill holes for geotechnical evaluation of proposed pits, and for hydrology analysis. Project environmental, heritage and technical background studies are close to completion – optimisation and pit design has commenced on LJC and the expanded LJN4 – the aim is to prepare and submit a Mining Proposal in early 2024. Other strategic opportunities are also being investigated”. Major Reforms made in #Draft #Mining Plan #Guidelines 2024 issued by Ministry of Coal. Key reforms introduced in the revised draft Mining Plan & Mine Closure Guidelines include: - Enhanced flexibility for minor modifications in Mining Plans, with major changes requiring approval from the Coal Controller Organization (CCO). - Provision for calendar plan flexibility to accommodate increased annual coal production beyond scheduled targets. - Mandatory reporting of other commercially valuable minerals found within leasehold areas to State Governments. - Preference for blast-free and continuous coal-cutting technologies in mining methods. - Implementation of comprehensive Safety Management Plans as per Coal Mines Regulations, 2017, including mandatory safety audits. - Integration of fly ash filling protocols into mining plans to address related environmental concerns. - Requirement for drone surveys and processed outputs for comprehensive five-year compliance reports of Mining Plans. - Inclusion of sand for stowing in mines within revised guidelines. - Provision for extraction of barrier coal in adjacent mines to conserve coal reserves. - Facilitation of mine amalgamation for safer and more efficient operations, including the use of decoaled voids for overburden dumping. - Permission for project proponents to exclude non-viable areas within allocated blocks with detailed justifications. - Guidelines for dumping overburden in areas outside coal blocks. - Certification of project boundaries based on DGPS surveys for coal blocks allocated through auction or allotment. - Standardization of Heavy Earth Moving Machinery (HEMM) specifications to ensure safety, efficiency, and interoperability in coal mining operations. - Mandatory adoption of conveyor belts or railway transport for coal evacuation, promoting environmental sustainability. - Requirement for mechanized loading to optimize coal movement from siding to end-users, enhancing operational efficiency and environmental protection. - Mandatory preparation of Temporary and Final Mine Closure Plans for abandoned or discontinued mines post-2009. These guidelines are now under stakeholder consultation to facilitate an inclusive and comprehensive review process, ensuring that all relevant perspectives are considered. The stakeholders are requested to submit their comments by 1st July 2024.

If approved, the proposed Federal mining plan would allow the mining of 5.2 million tons of Federal coal within approximately 320 acres. 𝗢𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 #### Extraction Methods 1. **Surface Mining**: Surface mining is used when oil sands deposits are located close to the surface. This method involves removing large amounts of overburden (the soil and rock covering the oil sands) to access the bitumen. The sands are then transported to extraction facilities, where hot water and chemicals separate the bitumen from the sand and clay. The extracted bitumen undergoes further processing to upgrade it into synthetic crude oil. 2. **In-Situ Extraction**: For deeper deposits, in-situ extraction methods are employed. The most common in-situ technique is Steam-Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD). SAGD involves drilling pairs of horizontal wells into the oil sands. Steam is injected into the upper well to heat the bitumen, reducing its viscosity. The heated bitumen then flows into the lower well, where it is pumped to the surface. Other in-situ methods include Cyclic Steam Stimulation (CSS) and solvent-based extraction techniques. #### Environmental and Economic Considerations Oil sands extraction has significant environmental impacts. Surface mining operations disturb large land areas and create tailings ponds, which contain water, sand, clay, and residual bitumen. These ponds pose risks to wildlife and require extensive management and reclamation efforts. In-situ extraction, while less land-disruptive, is energy-intensive and produces greenhouse gas emissions. Efforts to mitigate environmental impacts include improving the efficiency of extraction processes, developing technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and enhancing land reclamation practices. Companies are also investing in research to find more sustainable extraction methods, such as using less water and incorporating renewable energy sources. Economically, oil sands represent a substantial investment. The high cost of extraction and upgrading, coupled with fluctuations in global oil prices, can affect the profitability of oil sands projects. Understanding Mine Damps and Graham's Ratio: Essential Knowledge for Mining Safety 🚧🔍 In the mining industry, awareness of different types of damps and their characteristics is crucial for maintaining safety. Here’s a quick overview: 1. Fire Damp (Methane, CH4): - Characteristics: Highly inflammable and explosive at concentrations of 5-14.8% in air. - Specific Gravity: Lighter than air, typically found along the roof of an underground coal mine. 2. White Damp (Carbon Monoxide, CO): - Toxicity: Extremely toxic; as little as 0.1% can be lethal within minutes. - Formation: Result of incomplete combustion, often from the oxidation of coal in mines with spontaneous combustion. 3. Black Damp (Mixture of N2 and CO2): - Composition: 10-15% CO2, 85-90% N2. - Characteristics: Heavier than air, found along the mine floor, extinguishes light, and suffocates. 4. Stink Damp (Hydrogen Sulfide, H2S): - Characteristics: Recognizable by its rotten egg smell. - Toxicity: Poisonous and corrosive. 5. The long wall excavation method in mining is a highly efficient technique primarily used in coal mining, involving the full extraction of large rectangular coal blocks in a continuous operation. Using a long wall face, typically 100 to 300 meters long, hydraulic roof supports, or shields, hold up the mine roof while a shearer or plow cuts the coal. The coal is transported to the surface via a conveyor belt. As the shearer advances, the supports move forward, allowing controlled roof collapse, known as caving. The method has notable environmental drawbacks. Subsidence from the controlled roof collapse can cause ground movement, damaging ecosystems, water bodies, and infrastructure like buildings and roads.
