At Innovus, our strength lies in our diversity, and we take pride in being a workplace that embraces individuals from all faiths and backgrounds. Each of us contributes to the vibrant tapestry that makes Innovus a unique and inclusive place to work.
Today, February 1st, we celebrate World Hijab Day, and we want to reinforce our commitment to fostering an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and a true sense of belonging.
To honour this special day, we've had the privilege of hearing from three of our colleagues who wear the hijab so we could share with the rest of our colleagues the importance of the hijab in their lives and how Innovus can further support them. Their stories remind us of the richness that diversity brings to our workplace. Below in an extract from the interviews;
What does wearing a Hijab mean to you?
Aneesa: Security, wearing it defines me as a Muslim and allows me to observe modesty. I couldn’t live without my hijab, it’s part of me. I didn’t wear one during school but then decided later on - it was a personal choice.
What would help others to understand?
Aneesa: Some people get frightened and think it is compulsory. Islam does not force women to wear it, it is a personal choice. I like to talk about religion and help others understand more about Islam, so don’t be scared to ask questions.
Nayeemah: People can see it as restrictive as they don’t understand the meaning behind it. It has been given to Muslim women to guard their modesty and people don’t fully understand that. It is empowering. Raising awareness on it is so important. Hopefully people will reach out and ask questions. I am more than happy to explain.
What support do you need in the workplace, if any?
Rida: Have worked in places before where I have been the only hijabi, I don’t feel like that here.
Thank you to Rida, Nayeemah and Aneesa for speaking so openly to help raise awareness and share their beliefs with the rest of us.

As the festival of Dussehra dawns upon us, we are reminded of the age-old tale that speaks to the triumph of good over evil. It's a celebration of righteousness prevailing in the face of adversity, and this timeless message holds valuable lessons for the professional world.
In our careers, we often encounter obstacles and challenges, some of which may seem insurmountable. However, just like Lord Rama's unwavering determination to vanquish the demon king Ravana, we must approach our work with a resolute spirit. Dussehra teaches us the significance of integrity, ethics, and commitment in our professional lives.
The symbolic burning of the effigy of Ravana signifies the destruction of negative forces within us. It's a powerful reminder to eliminate self-doubt, procrastination, and any doubts that hinder our progress.
Dussehra is not just a time for celebration but also a moment for reflection. It encourages us to evaluate our professional paths, to face our inner 'Ravanas' that may hold us back, and to emerge as stronger, more principled individuals.
As we celebrate this auspicious festival, let's remember the significance of Dussehra and how it can inspire us to overcome challenges in our careers. With determination, integrity, and the spirit to face adversity, we too can conquer our professional 'demons' and emerge victorious, just as Lord Rama did. May this Dussehra bring success, prosperity, and new beginnings to all of us.

Plain language is so important for getting our messages across. So many of us don't know how to use it in our native language, let alone when we write in non-native languages.
Make sure your content providers know what your audience needs. The Plain Language Association International (PLAIN) website has resources if you want to learn more, or talk to a global #contentsolutions provider like Vistatec. #plain2023#iPlainDay
Yesterday I watched the documentary "A Tribo" - https://lnkd.in/dci7QEtt - and guess what! Today I came to help you, gringo, by explaining about the "meme" - you will never understand.
In reality, it's not a meme, well, we have some kids who understand and use it in a more aggressive way, indeed, but the real meaning is not to be a meme, but rather a vent.
You and I, we all know that Brazil is a third world country, it's no secret. And this phrase is about that, it's something like: despite all our difficulties, look at the party we make. Despite all the corruption, violence, poverty, and broken economy that surrounds us, look at what we can achieve.
In Europe, through an enviable train system, you can cross several countries. Here, we are a country of continental proportions, and our train system doesn't allow us to travel between states. Our roads, well, our roads are third world. An airplane ticket is always very expensive for our standards, no matter the route, it's very common for someone to pass away, from old age, without ever having flown. But still, at that Major event, people from all regions of Brazil were present.
A shirt from a CS team can cost about 1/5 of our minimum wage, by the way, in the documentary itself tell us about a kid who would work at the event as a freelancer, and the little he would earn he would use to buy a Fallen shirt. Even so, sales were a success.
It's also not new that we love soccer, and 99% of Brazilians have their favorite clubs, with some rivalries being very strong and dangerous, but even so, we were there to cheer for Fúria, Imperial, and 00 Nation. In the end, only Fúria remained, absorbing the fans of the other teams. It had turned into the World Cup, we were rooting for Brazil in the end, and every kill was the reason to shout like a goal and smash our drums.
In other words, despite all this, we packed that place, whether it was in the fanfest or inside the arena. In the group stage, for the first time, ESL held it in a space that allowed the presence of fans, and there were 8 days with at least 5k people in that space. So yes, we were there to see Gaulês, the teams, CS, everything. We wanted to enjoy it all! After all, it's been over 20 years of CS and for the first time we had an event of this magnitude.
Well, I hope I managed to explain at least 10% of this "feeling you will never understand" because despite the general difficulties I presented, each one still has their individual struggles... and even so, we made that Major what it was, unique. There might be another 10 around here, and all of them will be the greatest party the planet has ever seen, but that one was different.
Yeah... you will never understand, but dont get me wrong, we are not "memeing" the entire world, we are just... venting.
