We all deserve safe & fair working conditions - but that's sadly not the experience everyone has. A new article in Bloomberg Law quotes Director Patricia Pittman who told them that "...foreign-trained nurses from developing countries are heavily targeted by agencies to provide cheap hospital labor." Could your hospital be involved in Human Trafficking? Did you observe an increase in foreign born nursing staff at your hospital? How well thought out and explicit are your organization’s policies for the recruitment of nurses from countries like the Philippines? Do you know and monitor the terms of recruitment in the contacts signed with the agencies bringing foreign-born nurses to the United States? If you feel your ex-employer exploits nursing staff, they probably exploit the international nurses they filled your position with.

The U.S. faces a severe nursing shortage, worsened by a State Department freeze on green cards for foreign workers. This policy disrupts a key source of nurses, particularly impacting those who filed petitions after June 2022. Healthcare providers rely heavily on foreign nurses, who make up about 15% of the U.S. nursing workforce. This situation compounds existing challenges, including a significant departure of nurses during the pandemic and declining enrollment in nursing programs. Solutions proposed include tapping local talent and enhancing job attractiveness through various incentives. https://lnkd.in/exJJrRqT.

The U.S. has reached its annual limit for nursing visas, causing a significant backlog and impacting healthcare staffing. Industry groups, including the American Association of International Healthcare Recruitment and the American Hospital Association, are urging Congress to address the issue. They highlight the critical role of international nurses in mitigating shortages and support the Healthcare Workforce Resilience Act, which aims to recapture unused green cards for healthcare workers. Without intervention, the situation could worsen, especially with new staffing requirements in nursing homes. https://lnkd.in/eDebcK6r #healthcare #AccessToCare #NursingShortage #VisaLimit

These two jobs may get you to permanent residency faster💼: registered nurse & physical therapist. Both occupations fall under the Schedule A category, which allows for a streamlined process of obtaining a green card for certain occupations in high demand, including physical therapists and professional nurses. 🏥 Under Schedule A, employers seeking to hire foreign nationals as registered nurses or physical therapists can apply for Schedule A designation, bypassing the labor certification process📋. This means that they are not required to conduct a test of the labor market and obtain a permanent labor certification from the Department of Labor (DOL). ✅ To be eligible for this designation, the employer must offer full-time permanent employment to the foreign worker at the prevailing wage and provide notice of the position to the employer's bargaining representative or employees, if applicable. 💼💬 In addition to the Schedule A designation, healthcare workers, including registered nurses and physical therapists, are required to demonstrate that they meet the minimum requirements for education, training, licensure, experience, and English proficiency in their field. 🎓💉📚 #PermanentResidency #GreenCard #RegisteredNurseLife #PhysicalTherapist #HealthcareJobs #ScheduleA #ImmigrationProcess #NursingLife #TherapistLife #WorkVisa #HealthcareProfessionals #CareerGoals #VisaProcess #USImmigration #JobOpportunities
