Impacting Lives Through Empowering Individuals | Volunteer leader, Certified Enneagram Coach, Licensed Solemniser | ChFC®, AEPP®, IBFA
Community is more than a place. It's about the lives we touch and the impact we make. Chairing the Punggol West Community Centre Management Committee... I have seen the power of community engagement. It creates a space where people feel supported, connected, and empowered. The impact? We nurture a sense of belonging and mutual support. From youth programs to initiatives for the elderly, our efforts are designed to make sure no one feels left out or behind. Why this matters... In a world that's increasingly digital. The human connection matters more than ever. Our work in the community is a reminder of the tangible difference we can make in each other's lives. Here's what I've learned... Every contribution, no matter how small, has the potential to spark change. Whether it's volunteering a few hours, participating in a clean-up, or simply lending an ear to someone in need, it all adds up. And the best part? The joy of seeing our community... Come together. Overcome challenges. Celebrate achievements. Witnessing this strength in action is truly rewarding. So, here's my invitation to you: Get involved. Make an impact. Your community needs you. And trust me, the fulfillment you'll find in service is unparalleled. Together, let's make a difference. Not just for today, but for generations to come. #WeMakeImpact

From little things…what started as an idea, a dream, is now a reality. Anyone who lives in country towns knows if you want something done, you get in, volunteer, get a team on board and work hard to make it happen. The old tennis courts in Binnaway had seen better days, not used much, weeds growing through the cracks you know the deal…I asked around, got a couple of people keen, slowly we built to having regular social tennis. There were holes in the old nets, the balls would hit the cracks in the surface but it brought people together and gave them much needed social connection and exercise in the middle of the drought. Slowly, we built a committee, applied for grants, improved the lighting, painted the amenities and cleaned, mowed, got new nets and whipper snipped. We held BBQs, fundraised or funded ourselves to keep it going and now have regular free kids coaching clinics in the school holidays. We dreamt of resurfacing: made a plan, got quotes, lobbied, held meetings, consulted, added a multipurpose court, persisted through the many challenges and finally…it happened! Lessons: 1. Do it yourself: you can sit around, whinge and wait or make a plan and make it happen 2. Volunteers are key to rural community resilience: the more we and particularly government at all levels can support volunteer community groups and their efforts the better. 3. It takes a team: everything is better when you can share it. Others will bring fresh ideas, perspectives and skills and of course it is crucial for that joint sense of ownership and achievement. Thanks to The Coonabarabran Times for their cover and volunteers everywhere for what you do 😊 🎾☀️

💚 Choose Friendship as your Superpower! 💚 👋 Join Amigos and become part of our team, consisting of around 190 university students who choose to volunteer their time, spreading laughter and learning in the lives of hospitalized children! Our ultimate aim is to have an Amigo by the side of every sick child one day! What do we do? ✨We motivate children in the hospital ✨ As a volunteer, you are going to visit the hospital once every two weeks, for one and a half an hour. Your visits are scheduled on the same day throughout the entire semester, so consistency is important. While we do value commitment, we also strive to be flexible and supportive of one another when the need arises. ✨We build community✨ The everyday tasks of the organization are carried out by the employees, that is, the Amigo coordinators, along with volunteers. As volunteers, we participate in one support team over the course of two semesters. This can involve short event planning or even a project lasting half a year; everyone can choose what they want to participate in. We come from different universities, but prior experience is not necessary for the support teams – the more diverse perspectives come together, the more exciting the outcome. 🌟 We are a community, we help each other, and we listen to one another! 🌟 In hospitals alongside moments of joy, we can also encounter tougher situations. We discuss these together during our monthly hospital team meetings. Additionally, we place great emphasis on community building, through monthly Amigo nights and various events where participation is optional. One of the fundamental values of the foundation is mutual trust, which only strengthens further during these events. Trust is essential for making a cheerful hospital visit go smoothly, or even for collectively addressing challenges that arise within the team. ❗Complete the application form by September 17th, and join us in our mission❗ https://lnkd.in/dut9beZX #amigos #volunteering #community #joinourteam

FAQ: How does 'Support Month' work? ANSWER: "Morning all, this morning at Ribbons, Karen said I should put my support goal out there to see if anyone could help - so if anyone knows or has contact to a golf club in the Hampshire / Surrey area I would love a virtual or physical introduction." ➡️ "Yes I can help you" ➡️ "Hi, yes I can help. If you could send a bit more info I’ll get the right person" ➡️ "I know a few people at local golf clubs, will reach out." The POWER of communicating what you want and the power of a supportive community to be willing and able to help you - priceless. We not only support our members in figuring out how they can be supported but also support them in communicating the support they need effectively. (phew that's a lot of support) This is a fantastic example of how our members gain and give support - open to members and non-members ❤️ Join our supportive community >> https://loom.ly/5LFMiO0

A question for my esteemed contacts. This is something I have thought about before, and could have been a case study in the Ethics course that we taught years ago at Conestoga College, Volunteer Management Program. In a recent newspaper article on children’s physical activity, it was mentioned that the annual cost for a 16 year old girl to participate on her school’s rugby team is $400. If parents volunteer that cost is reduced to $250. Is this coerced volunteering? The volunteering in this case is during school hours. Only some parents have the flexibility and opportunity of helping in that way at that time. Does requiring parents to volunteer in order to get a reduced fee in sports or recreational activities create economic and other barrierrs? Many sports programs do this. What are your thoughts? Many of you likely have personal experience about this to share.
