Building resilience is something we all need to do.

We have long known that combating climate change is imperative for the survival of many bird species. To achieve climate stabilization, we need a rapid build-out of transmission and clean energy. This provides an opportunity to build a bird friendly grid—one with the capacity and flexibility required to power our economy without emissions, and constructed and managed to minimize risks to birds and the places they need. After learning how long it will take the Earth's ice sheets to melt in the previous episode, we continue our journey in Greenland. Listener Johan isn't too optimistic about government's ability to curb greenhouse gas emissions and get a handle on climate change. So from his coastal perch in Denmark, he has asked where we should live when the poles have melted away and coastlines creep inland. Along with the help of BBC correspondents around the world, Marnie Chesterton scours the globe for the best option for listener Johan's new home. BBC Mundo reporter Rafael Rojas takes us to a manmade island off Colombia's Caribbean coast to see how we might be able to live with the seas. Meanwhile, reporter Furkan Khan takes us into the high, cold desert region of Ladakh to see if heading for the hills might be the answer. As Marnie searches for a climate-proof destination, she speaks to conservation biogeographer Matt Fitzpatrick, from the Appalachian Laboratory at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. He's made a map that shows what towns and cities will feel like in 60 years and where you should visit in order to get a preview of your home's future climate. But Matt also tells us that we might not be the only ones on the move. And as climate scientist Ruth Mottram from the Danish Meteorological Institute tells us, waters are not going to rise evenly around the world. The oceans are stressed with more than enough factors that will only worsen with the next few years...Miami's heat-based bleaching being one example! Holistic blue-carbon restoration taking place over decades is one major solution that belongs in the Drawdown toolkit but unlike old-school capitalism, we cannot waste time arguing over whose solution is better. We need all hands on deck! At ProjectQRSargasso, we seek to advance a paid environmentalism model using the valorization of sargassum algae to fund our own blue-carbon restoration work. Ideally, this should ultimately resemble U.S.A.C.E. coastal restoration projects, taking place over the span of decades.

The scourge of fires, almost always due to criminal arsonists, is increased in this 2023, in Italy, by the so-called climate crisis. That is, the extreme overheating of summer temperatures that is marking an epochal change in man's approach to the environment. It is in this context that, according to data from #Legambiente, 'in Italy from the beginning of 2023 to 27 July, 51,386 hectares covered by fire have gone up in smoke. Equivalent to over 73,408 football pitches.' Working right away with a new post-fire experiment to understand the effects of fire on the clayey cover soil in landslide processes!
