As we reflect on World Mental Health Day, which was observed on October 10, it's crucial to highlight the often-overlooked connection between the mental health of healthcare professionals and its impact on drug safety monitoring. Burnout and stress can lead to increased medication errors and underreporting of adverse drug reactions (ADRs), especially in resource-limited settings. These challenges not only affect healthcare providers but also compromise patient safety. Why It Matters: Healthcare professionals' mental health plays a significant role in ensuring safe and effective care. Supporting their well-being is not just about reducing stress, but also about protecting patients from potential risks caused by unreported ADRs or medication mistakes. How We Can Make a Difference: By prioritizing the mental health of healthcare workers, we can create safer environments for both professionals and patients. Let’s work together to support those who care for us every day. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dWwh3wZX Let’s raise awareness and advocate for stronger mental health support in healthcare, for the benefit of everyone.

A recent study introduces an effective mental health screening tool that reliably forecasts mental health outcomes for trauma patients during hospitalization. Emphasizing the importance of tailored approaches, the research suggests that sustainable mental health screening and recovery initiatives should be customized for each trauma center, involving all stakeholders. The findings underscore the critical role of trauma centers in delivering comprehensive mental health resources, including online education, support, and necessary referrals to mental healthcare providers, ensuring holistic care for injured patients. The United States is experiencing a significant shortage of mental health care providers. Over 168 million Americans live in areas designated as Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas without sufficient access to mental health services. This shortage is particularly severe in rural areas, with more than half of U.S. counties without a single psychiatrist! Initiatives such as integrating mental health services into primary care settings and promoting telemedicine programs are a start, but the demand for mental health services just continues to grow. Raising awareness and talking about this disparity is the first step to making sure that all Americans have access to the mental health support that they need!

Marking #WorldMentalHealthDay, we recognise the challenges the mental health sector faces meeting ever-increasing demand with limited resources. While digital solutions aren't a panacea, there is more that can be done to enhance support for service users, helping them engage and self manage during their wait and throughout their treatment. Integrated into the NHS App and already collaborating with 15 mental health organisations across primary and secondary care, PKB’s key areas of support include: ✅ Digital access to appointments & letters ✅ Implementation of national programmes like Waiting List Validation with Waiting Well resources ✅ Care planning ✅ Questionnaires for PROMs to inform efficient decision-making and timely interventions Contact our PKB team to find out more and read about City and Hackney's innovative programme to coordinate multi-disciplinary support for SMI service users in the area 👇 https://lnkd.in/eJJnVZhd

I was pleased to be with Dr Amanda Cohn and Mental Health Alliance colleagues this afternoon for the launch of findings and recommendations from the Parliamentary Inquiry into the equity, accessibility and appropriate delivery of outpatient and community mental health care in New South Wales. The Committee made 39 recommendations to improve community and outpatient mental health care in NSW, with 23 of those relating directly to Mental Health Coordinating Council recommendations. The $111.8 million NSW budget announcement this morning simply does not go far enough to address the recommendations of the Inquiry and demonstrates some significant reductions to previous commitments in relation to Pathways to Community Living Initiative (PCLI) Stage 2. PCLI Stage 2 was originally set to support 230 patients (in 2021) and now has been reduced to support only 20 patients. The PCLI investment of $10 million a year for four years falls significantly short of what is required to fund these supports for the cohort identified. By our calculation circa $40 million a year over four years would be needed (this is four times the current budgeted amount). The critical plea to Premier Chris Minns, Treasurer Daniel Mookhey Mins Rose Jackson Mins Ryan Park and the NSW Government, is to immediately commit to increase and maintain funding across the entire mental health system with a priority investment in community-based mental health services. This includes increasing core funding to MHCC which (other than CPI), has not received increases for around 40 years. Mental Health Coordinating Council is urging the NSW Government to significantly invest in the mental health sector according to the Inquiry report recommendations. MHCC congratulates Dr Amanda Cohn and the Portfolio Committee for the findings and recommendations from the 'Inquiry into the equity, accessibility and appropriate delivery of outpatient and community mental health care in NSW'. MHCC is pleased to see that the Inquiry aligns with our recommendations to the Committee, in particular calling for investment in mental health and psychosocial services. “The Committee has made 39 recommendations to improve community and outpatient mental health care in NSW, with 23 of those relating directly to MHCC’s recommendations,” says Dr Evelyne Tadros. An Inclusive & interesting study incorporating many aspects of everyday relatable life!
Post Doctoral Research Associate, University of Lincoln, United Kingdom. || Honorary Research Fellow, Global Business School for Health, University College London.
🚑 ENAMHP @CahRU Research at Lincoln We are working with NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) East Midlands, East Midlands Ambulance Service, and HAPPI group to understand how improved capacity of ambulance frontline staff better respond to mental health crises; what and how registered mental health nurses in Emergency Operation Centres deliver remote mental health care, and respond to patients on-scene within the community; and the use of Mental Health Response Vehicles to provide targeted support. Together, we are working towards a more responsive and compassionate emergency care system and providing evidence for others to adopt new approaches prioritising mental health. #MentalHealth #EmergencyCare #HealthcareInnovation #AmbulanceServices https://lnkd.in/g_-PBFm7

Visits to the doctors office can add up... having awareness of the signs of mental health related issues can get you to the right kind of care quicker. According to a study cited by The Zebra, an astounding 60 million primary care visits are attributed to addressing mental health concerns. This statistic underscores the significant impact that mental health issues have on individuals' overall well-being and healthcare utilization. With mental health conditions ranging from anxiety and depression to more severe disorders, primary care providers play a crucial role in identifying, diagnosing, and treating these issues. By recognizing the prevalence of mental health concerns in primary care settings, healthcare systems can better allocate resources and integrate mental health services to ensure comprehensive and holistic patient care. Cadre is helping people build awareness and support for the things they go through. The things we all go through. When we're able to recognize our internal states, we're able to take the steps towards better mental health. Sources: https://lnkd.in/gBqHNADg https://lnkd.in/gwVjGr_v
