We are so proud of our team at Greenwich College for expanding their offering to include health and care courses. Australia has such a huge, unmet demand for workers in aged care and allied health services, and we are excited to train the next generation of carers. This week, we open our specialised Health Lab in our multi-floor Melbourne campus. Enrolments are coming in fast and the support from our agent network is really encouraging.

Source:- Abbotsford Newburgh, Angela Penman, published in the Scottish Care Journal - Nurturing Tomorrows Health Care Professionals - PART 2 Meaningful interactions with young learners have been linked to improved mental health amongst older individuals, reducing feelings of isolation and fostering a sense of purpose. This relationship not only enhances the resident’s quality of life but also provides the students with a deeper understanding of empathy and compassion. The enthusiasm displayed by the students sparks a continuous dialogue on how to encourage curiosity and innovation within the care home. Collaborative projects and intergenerational activities have been effective in stimulating curiosity among students and residents alike, these initiatives not only break down age – related barriers but also create an environment that fosters innovation. The residents have responded positively to the collaborative efforts of both students. The personalised and thoughtful activities have contributed to insightful conversations and displays a genuine interest in their life experiences, to which many are happy to share their stories. The integration of student nurses and student paramedics in their first placement has proven to be a delightful and successful initiative. By working together to organize and facilitate the activity has not only enhanced their own learning experiences but has also positively impacted the lives of the residents. This collaborative model serves as a promising foundation for future healthcare professionals emphasizing the importance of teamwork and by embracing such initiatives, we can pave the way for a future where learning transcends generations, creating communities that thrive on shared knowledge and mutual respect.

The evolution of practice learning as explored by Juliet Borwell with our NHS Kent & Medway Practice educator network. The context of where we have come with educating the workforce, and in our roles in developing the future student Nurses and AHPs. 'When i trained'...'in my day'...'i remember when'...are historical experiences, lets not allow these to be restrictive of our future education. Developing our educators to challenge the status quo, step outside of the 'this is how we have always done it'. Evolution implies change and growth, and reflects the progression in practice and delivery of education. We need to educate and adapt to ensure we develop health and social care professionals for the future. Evolution & growth, lets not stand still.

Healthcare Leader & Practice Partner: Specialising in Strategic Primary Care Consulting and Service Design
As a GP, and a GP Partner, it is my responsibility to ensure that all members of the community have access to healthcare. It is an NHS ethos, and my personal ethic. However, as we all know many groups of people have barriers to healthcare, due to various reasons. I have already written a post on how patients demographics really matter, and how they affect the way I run my GP practice. https://lnkd.in/eSfzdWcP Students are unfortunately a forgotten patient group. I went to uni a decade ago and I get it. Moving out has its challenges. ESPECIALLY if you’re a student, where your head is already filled with worries about studies, rent, relationships and friends. Your health and wellbeing naturally is the least of your worries. But that is no excuse reason why we, GPs and GP partners, should forget about these poor students. Here are two main reasons why students in your area should be registered with you: Mental Health issues especially in young adults have unfortunately gone through the roof. Anxiety and depression are stealing young people’s youths everywhere. GPs are often the first point of call for many of these issues- and have the responsibility to refer people into further counselling psychiatric services if needed. They also can prescribe medications needed for these illnesses GETTING JABBED: Students are at high risk of catching contagious illnesses, especially if they live in crowded accommodations or regularly attend large lectures and seminars. It is all the more important that they get vaccinated, whether it be Covid, the flu, or even travel vaccinations which are required when travelling to certain areas of the world. So how do I ensure that students are registered with Elmtree? Actually, I do a lot of work with local institutions including the local Teeside University, such as free health checkups. This helps me to build connections with that institution and its students, so I can promote good health and wellbeing and encourage students to register with Elm Tree Medical Centre. It also helps my practice that more people registered with us, as I have explained in this post. https://lnkd.in/ePbJWnjs I have also made a video that is circulated in the student community to encourage them to register with any GP, not just us. As a GP Partner, you would be negligent to ignore students. They are the next generation and the future of our community so it is imperative you ensure that their health is in good hands. #GP #students #vaccinations #mentalhealth

In the final quarter of 2023, Guud worked with the Discovery Safe Journeys To School (DSJTS) programme to provide scholar drivers with a full health assessment and a comprehensive eye test as part of our joint commitment to enable these scholar transporters the chance to assess their health as drivers. We witnessed remarkable transformations in driver health, from improved vision to the adoption of proactive healthcare measures. The distribution of spectacles proved transformative, with drivers recognizing the paramount importance of eye health. This sparked inquiries and created awareness within the community. In the domain of primary healthcare, our program tackled challenges such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity. A pivotal moment occurred when a driver was deemed ineligible to apply for a PrDP, prompting a proactive referral that potentially averted a future heart attack or stroke. This incident emphasizes the programme’s commitment to a comprehensive approach to driver health and wellness. The impact of our initiative goes beyond individual health, reaching into the lives of families. A heartwarming encounter with a grateful driver highlighted the programme’s role in alleviating economic burdens. When faced with the dilemma of broken spectacles versus providing food for her family, the initiative became a beacon of hope. The genuine gratitude expressed reflects the program’s tangible and far-reaching effects on the communities it serves. These impactful stories stand as testaments to the Discovery Safe Journeys To School Programme, (implemented by Afrika Tikkun Services) and their steadfast commitment to holistic driver well-being. Beyond issuing spectacles, distributing medical prescriptions as well as Optometry and National Medical Certificates (both required for the application and/or renewal of a driver’s PrDP), the Shayela Programme is sparking conversations and catalyzing positive change, fostering a culture of well-being that extends beyond the roads. Our MAC’s (Mobile Assessment Centres) are on the road again, driven by the inspiring impact stories that fuel our team’s dedication to steering the vision of change in 2024 and building upon the successes witnessed in 2023. For more information on Guud's #ShayelaProgramme, please visit, https://lnkd.in/d8csmqGn In line with Afrika Tikkun Services’ commitment to the Discovery Safe Journeys to School, their efforts align seamlessly with the Western Cape’s Government operation to ensure compliance with transport regulations. As schools reopened in January 2024, various scholar transport enforcement operations took place in the province. Western Cape Provincial Traffic Officers, alongside the Provincial Regulatory Entity (PRE) and the City of Cape Town, diligently checked operating licenses, vehicles, and driver fitness. "Places of training, schools of medicine, public health nursing, etc, have a moral obligation to train the next generation of trainees better." - Dr. Ndidiamaka Amutah Onukagha, CEO & Founder of ACES Our #WomenWednesday highlight goes to an incredibly special figure in the public health world, ACES very own founder Dr.Amutah Onukagha, as she gave remarks closing out National Minority Health Month (NMHM), a critical time to spotlight the need to improve health outcomes in minority communities and eliminate bias. But where does this transformation begin? Where does the responsibility lie? At a recent #BirthingJustice screening, our CEO and Founder reminded us that eradicating bias necessitates empowering the next generation of trainees. "We have a moral obligation," she asserts, "to educate the next generation of trainees better." The ACES firm advocates for prioritizing equitable frameworks and championing bodily autonomy within educational institutions and healthcare systems to propel minority health forward. Join us in commemorating NMHM by taking proactive strides toward crafting a future where every individual's autonomy is honored and upheld. Together, let's construct a healthcare education system that not only fosters empowerment and equity but also reveres the diverse communities it serves. #MinorityHealthMonth #EmpoweringFutureGenerations #ACESForALL

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) has a committed ally for allied health workforce development in Nashville: Vice President for Allied Health Education Peggy Valentine, EdD, who has been collaborating with numerous educational institutions, community organizations, and area high schools to create and extend programs that effectively recruit and train for critical roles. One of Valentine’s top priorities is understanding and addressing students’ real-life needs—such as the imperative to retain wages while training and receiving help covering costs—and rolling out trainee-centric opportunities that remove some of these obstacles by providing tuition support and sometimes even living stipends. Since the first pilot, almost 200 Nashville residents have matriculated in related programs. Graduates typically transition into in-demand roles at the VUMC, launching new careers in healthcare that—in many cases—represent the opportunity to achieve what otherwise may have been an unobtainable dream. #WhatsWorkingInWorkforceDevelopment https://lnkd.in/dQ3Ntaxm
