Funding boost to enliven City’s street-based events 🏙️✨🕺 Transport for NSW has announced that City of Wagga Wagga is one of 16 NSW local government areas to receive $500,000 through the Permit/Plug/Play Pilot Program. The funding will be used to streamline the delivery of street-based events by enhancing event infrastructure and reducing operational costs for organisers. This will improve event management processes and support the city's cultural, economic, and social activities. Plans include developing pre-approved Traffic Control Plan templates and installing infrastructure such as retractable road bollards, electrical provisions, and additional lighting. The funds will also support the Festival of W 2025, demonstrating the new processes and infrastructure in action. The project will focus on Baylis Street (Morrow to Fitzmaurice streets), Morrow Street (Baylis to Peter streets), and Burns Way. Learn more >>https://bit.ly/3XDn7Dz 📸 Festival of W 2024

Organisers of the iconic Bristol International Balloon Fiesta have managed to reduce their annual funding gap to £15,000 – down from the £100,000 deficit following the 2023 event. Despite attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors and bringing an estimated £14.7 million into the economy during the event week - making it the city’s most valuable annual outdoor event - the organisation that runs it is still making a financial loss. https://lnkd.in/eEm7cK7s

It was great to attend the Durham Business Group networking event today at the Poplar Tree Garden Centre, where we got to see inside the newly opened Unbox holiday lodges. The lodges are constructed from converted shipping containers, which transported me right back to my Architectural Techology days. Even on a grey day like today, it felt so peaceful & serene. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in or visiting County Durham. Anyway, it was lovely to meet some new people today and share a conversation about what we do at Point North. If you’re a business (small or large) or an individual and you want to make a difference in your community, the first step that you can take is making the intention. Once you make that intention- commit to it. It’s never too late to start making a difference but now more than ever our communities need us. All of us. And that includes you. So maybe it’s worth having the initial conversation with your team or even yourself. What are your CSR/ESG responsibilities? Do you have a plan in place? How are you acheveing, or going to achieve, what you set out to do?

The Australian Festival scene has taken more than a few blows in the past 24 months with the demise of many well-known events. Presenting an event year after year can be very challenging, even when faced with a global pandemic. Many within the event industry knew well what the post-pandemic environment would look like with the new challenges faced to attain cost-neutral plus events. From cost of living deterring ticket sales to negotiating transport and logistics, the extreme pressures on event organisers and artist managers have increased significantly. More often than not, many believe the way forward is for governments (the taxpayers) to pour money into the industry to gain a correction. Others, however, understand and know the importance of changing a business model to adapt to a post-COVID economy. Yes, that's right, the pandemic is still with us in an economic sense as well, virally. Take the Ohana Festival held in #California. This festival, founded by Pearl Jams Eddie Vedder, has been running since 2016. The event attracts an average of 15000 ticket holders daily and is family-friendly. Conceptually, the event invests back into communities with a percentage of sales donated to foundations to continue community work and projects. In short, the event that attracts big-name artists has a meaningful background that helps sustainable communities. Maintaining events can be achieved successfully. Thinking slightly differently is the way forward for this industry.

What makes events true cultural anchors in NYC? Honestly, it’s simple: they’re more than just gatherings—they’re real experiences people connect with. I always approach our events with the goal of creating something lasting. At MASC, it’s about more than just selling—it’s about building a space where people feel connected, where stories are shared, and where NYC’s unique energy shines through. Each neighborhood has its character, and when we tap into that, we’re not just hosting an event; we’re making memories and building loyalty that lasts. Does anyone else find that events are one of the best ways to connect with NYC communities?
