Toronto-based ArcTern Ventures has successfully raised $335 million for its third climate-focused fund, signalling strong interest in cleantech opportunities despite challenges in the sector. Per Sightline Climate (CTVC), the dry powder in ClimateTech Venture space was situated at $41b ready to be deployed as of the beginning of April. Within the last week, $1.2b of dry powder has been added by Chevron Technology Ventures (CTV), SOSV, and Wellington Management. CTV raised their third fund of $500m focused on diversifying the parent company's business in renewables, circular carbon economy, energy decentralization, and other aspects of low carbon/no carbon. Chevron's CVC provides a huge advantage of legacy energy experience that can be a major value-add to portfolio companies like ChargePoint or Carbon Clean. SOSV and Wellington raised $306m and $385m respectively which adds dramatically to dry powder in climate. SOSV is on their fifth fund focused on the space while Wellington has $1.2t AUM, but this will be their first climate-specific fund. Overall, the climate venture scene is ripe with opportunity and capital.
