Today is supposedly 'Blue Monday', often cited as the most depressing day of the year. This reputation stems from the combination of January's cold, dark weather, depleted bank balances, and the fading glow of festive cheer. While this day might serve as a stark reminder, it's crucial to remember that mental health challenges can arise at any time throughout the year. Even if someone appears to be coping well, they may be struggling internally. A simple check-in with colleagues, friends, and loved ones can make a world of difference. It can offer support, encourage help-seeking, and provide a sense of connection and understanding. Remember: Mental health impacts everyone, and it's perfectly okay to not be okay. #mentalhealth #wellbeing #support"

Today is not the most depressing day of the year, as it's impossible to pick a date for such a claim. It's not based on science, but a bit of frankly smart marketing (in that even though it's bogus it clearly tapped into people's mid-January mindset) But remember... If you're aggressively condemning it - what is that achieving? No one who is not depressed is becoming depressed as a result of today. Quite the opposite, its providing a rare cultural "in" so that people might actually start a conversation organically. Not just today... ....We should look for ANY opportunity to spark a conversation about our thoughts and feelings. Whether it's Blue Monday, or Brew Monday, or Time to Talk Day, or MH Awareness Week. (Those days are also not picked based on science, by the way) But if today is the day, regardless of the day... Make sure you back the talk up with action. Walking, socials, activities, sport, a chat with a GP, a root around on www.hubofhope.co.uk If you take your first steps on Blue Monday, maybe we can reshape its narrative as one of a day for mental health action. And, for the record, if Blue Monday was just set up to sell holidays, I'm quite happy to admit that, for me, holidays are a great way to spend work-free time with friends and family, destress and relax. Booking a hol, or any break, is an investment in your future self's mental health.

Today is often referred to as "Blue Monday," supposedly the most difficult day of the year. However, Samaritans have rebranded it as Brew Monday to dispel this myth and emphasise the importance of connection and support every day. As a Mental Health Ally at A&O Shearman, it’s important to understand the significance of mental wellbeing and the power of small gestures. That's why I've baked some treats for our team to enjoy with a cuppa, to mark this day. It's a simple way to encourage everyone to take a moment, check in with each other, and prioritise our mental health. Samaritans remind us that human connection can be lifesaving. Whether it's over a cup of tea, a walk, or a chat, let's make an effort to reach out and support one another. Every day is an opportunity to make a positive impact. Let's turn Blue Monday into a day of compassion, connection, and community. 💙 #BrewMonday #MentalHealthMatters #TeamSupport #AOShearman

Let’s Talk About Blue Monday ☔ Today is ‘Blue Monday’, often dubbed the ‘most depressing day of the year’ – but this concept was created as a PR stunt to sell holidays. Let’s be clear: challenges with your mental health don’t stick to one Monday in January. Bad days can happen at any time, which is why it’s so important to prioritise your wellbeing every single day. At Taye Training we bring wellbeing into all our courses, helping frontline professionals remember to take care of themselves too – because you can’t pour from an empty cup. If you’re finding your bad days are outweighing the good, don’t keep it to yourself. Speak to someone you trust – whether that’s a friend, family member, your GP, or a dedicated helpline. Here are some organisations that are here to listen: 📞 Mind: 0300 123 3393 📞 Samaritans: 116 123 📞 Papyrus HOPELINEUK: 0800 068 4141 📞 National Suicide Prevention Helpline UK: 0800 689 5652 📞 CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably): 0800 58 58 58 Let’s look out for each other – today and every day 💙 #Wellbeing #BlueMonday #MentalHealthAwareness #TransformYourTraining #SelfCare
