🌊 Ahead of the Floating Offshore Wind Exhibition in Aberdeen next week, our Engineering and Projects Director, Fraser Milne, discusses the UK’s goal of 50 GW of offshore wind by 2030, including 5 GW from floating wind. However, with current delays in approvals and infrastructure, meeting this target requires immediate action. This commentary explores the challenges and potential solutions to scaling the UK's floating offshore wind sector. 📝 Read in full here: https://lnkd.in/dVCsm-ty #FloatingOffshoreWind #RenewableEnergy #SustainableFuture RenewableUK Scottish Renewables

A good day in #Glasgow at the Scottish Renewables new #GridandNetworks conference. My key takeaways/confirmations: - grid is on the critical path of offshore wind projects - we require a whole new energy system to reach net zero (not just to re-wire the old network!); the scale is revolutionary - work is ongoing: HND/HNDFUE, CSNP, TAAP, CAP - SSEP will be important but need to understand the detail and how it will work - planning/consenting needs to accelerate - Community acceptance is key - there are jobs and benefits - if you are not an HND developer, you don’t have visibility of the process - Connections reform is important- need to reduce transmission build from 14 to 7 years and from 600GW capacity in the grid queue to c 200GW which is what is needed by 2050 (high scenario) - ESO are keen to reserve capacity for embedded generation each year - need to increase barriers to entry into the grid queue and focus on ‘first ready first served’ - ultimately, to take the grid out of the critical path! - then comes the TNUoS and LMP.. current regime (conceived with few large generators and unchanging network) is unsustainable.. - we don’t have all the answers but work is ongoing to address the issues. We've carried out a huge amount of surveys to inform our Environment Impact Assessment (EIA). In fact, our Offshore and EIA Consents Manager, Sean Lindsley-Leake, says "It's probably the largest data sets that I've ever seen for an offshore wind farm". It's all incredibly valuable research though, because it helps us understand fully any impacts Codling Wind Park might have on the environment – and then plan how to monitor and mitigate these. Here's Sean to explain more ⬇️ Fred. Olsen Seawind EDF Renewables UK & Ireland #GeneratingGreenerIreland #OffshoreWind #IrelandClimateTargets #Environment #EIA

🌍 Exciting Developments in Renewable Energy! 🌊 Hey LinkedIn network! I'm excited to share some significant findings from a recent project at Implement Consulting Group. Together with my amazing colleagues, we tackled the big question: "The journey to net zero – an impossible task?" With the ambitious 2030 target of 163 GW for the European offshore wind industry, and needing investments of EUR 350 billion, the challenge seemed immense. But here’s where it gets interesting... We discovered an alternative pathway that not only makes achieving the EU’s long-term goal of 450 GW by 2050 feasible but could also save European taxpayers about EUR 200 billion. 🌱💡 Are you curious about our findings? Dive deeper into our insights and join the conversation by checking out the full report here: 👉 https://ow.ly/aqu350RFsVh I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic. How do you see the future of renewable energy evolving? What innovative solutions do you think can help us achieve these ambitious goals? Thank you Jake Bookham, Christian Romer Vingtoft, Malte Lisberg Buhr, Anders Thor Lundberg and Martin Hvidt Thelle for great work! #RenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #ManagementConsulting #ImplementConsultingGroup #Teamwork #Innovation
