Today on the MatchMaritime page, we delve into the final step of the onboarding process, which, while not mandatory for all nationalities in the medical team, holds significant importance in the maritime realm: STCW and CDC or often called Seaman's book! 📜 STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping): This international maritime convention sets the gold standard for seafarer training. To obtain your STCW certification: 1. Training Courses: Enroll in accredited STCW courses at maritime training institutions. These courses cover essential topics like firefighting, survival at sea, and navigation. 2. Document Verification: Ensure you have the necessary documents, including medical certificates and a valid passport. 3. Assessment: Successfully complete the course assessments and practical exercises. 4. Application: Apply to your country's maritime authority for STCW certification. 🚢 CDC (Continuous Discharge Certificate): Often called a "seaman's book," it's crucial for your maritime career. Here's how to get one: 1. Eligibility: You should have completed your STCW training and have a job offer on a vessel. 2. Application: Contact your country's maritime authority or consulate to apply. They will guide you through the process and required documents. 3. Verification: Your employer will often verify your details, and your CDC will be issued upon confirmation. Obtaining STCW and a CDC is your passport to a rewarding maritime career. These certifications ensure you're well-prepared and compliant with international standards, making you an asset to any ship's crew. Whether you're setting sail on your maritime journey or looking to advance in the industry, understanding the path to STCW and the Seaman's Book is your compass to success. 🚢🌎 #MaritimeSafety #STCW #CDC #Seafarers #CareerAtSea #MaritimeTraining #Navigation #SafetyAtSea

Providing shipboard seafarer training & MLC 2006 assistance for the cruiseline industry @ TTCIS Global & CruiseNext Marine Services Pvt Ltd
For Indian nationals looking to work on a cruise ship, the STCW certificates required are generally in line with the international standards. However, specific requirements may vary based on the cruise line and the position. As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, common STCW certificates needed for cruise ship employment include: Basic Safety Training (BST): Covers essential safety skills such as firefighting, personal survival techniques, elementary first aid, and personal safety and social responsibilities. Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (PSCRB): Focuses on launching and handling lifeboats and rescue boats. Medical First Aid: Provides training in basic first aid with a focus on maritime scenarios. Advanced Firefighting: Covers advanced firefighting techniques and strategies. Crowd Management Training: Addresses techniques for managing passengers during emergencies. Crisis Management and Human Behavior: Focuses on handling emergencies and human behavior in crisis situations. Security Awareness Training for All Seafarers: Ensures understanding of security threats and measures on board. Indian maritime authorities, such as the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), can provide specific guidance on the requirements and the process for obtaining these certificates. Additionally, cruise lines may have their own specific requirements, so it's advisable to check with the cruise line you're interested in working for. Always ensure that you have the most up-to-date information regarding STCW requirements for cruise ship employment.

Senior Engineer, Contract Construction Representative for Trenchless Crossings on Strategic Pipeline Alliance project
Depends what you do. BOSIET is definitely required for Oil and gas sector because it includes helicopter survival. Oil and gas survey will sometimes accept GWO unless the Client's standard conditions exclude it, but both HUET and GWO may be dictated by the client. Oil and gas are rarely concerned with Working at Heights - there is no BOSIET equivalent. Local requirements apply. I had to do a local H2S course for the Danish Sector in 2019, I had a OPITO one from RoK which was accepted by the Client but not the Contractor. Marine crew are a different issue because they don't usually change by helicopter, with offshore rigs being the main exception. STCW is basically for marine crew, although I did do it at one time (local requirements again)
Offshore Client's Representative | Project Manager | survey | marine geology & geotechnical | EU, UK, USA & Asia
Question! I've had the surgery that allows me to resume my role worldwide. But I have to renew my safety certification first. Asking specifically the suppliers and the clients - which safety certificate is the one worth getting for ship-borne seabed survey? Of the three incredibly similar, but mutually exclusive, certs that are out there. What do the call-outs actually, really, require? Is there any tolerance in the call-outs for crossover at all? I'm not going to be collecting all three of them like badges. Four-fifths of each course is transferable to the other. The other fifth is unique but irrelevant to project crew on seabed survey - I've named them below. A) BOSIET (every four years) - helicopter crew change survival B) GWO (every two years) - working at height C) STCW-BST (every five years) - marine crew firefighting with BA #BOSIET #GWO #gwotraining #offshorewind #cables #HUET #offshorejobs

The Sufficiency of STCW Basic Training for Entry-Level Maritime Professionals. This is a very relevant topic when it comes to yachting, with this and a seafarers medical certificate being the only requirement to get hired. The Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention sets the minimum training standards for seafarers worldwide. STCW Basic Safety Training is a foundational requirement for entry-level maritime professionals, encompassing safety, security, and operational skills. However, the question arises: Is STCW Basic Safety Training truly sufficient to prepare individuals adequately for the challenges of the maritime industry? While STCW Basic Training covers fundamental aspects such as personal safety, survival techniques, firefighting, first aid, and security awareness which are crucial skills the training duration for these modules is relatively short, typically lasting a week. This limited timeframe may not allow for in-depth understanding or practical application of the course being taught. Real-world scenarios at sea can be unpredictable and challenging, requiring quick thinking and problem-solving skills that can only be honed through practical experience. Without sufficient hands-on training, entry-level professionals may struggle to apply theoretical knowledge in high-pressure situations effectively. The global nature of the maritime industry demands cultural awareness, effective communication skills, and the ability to work in diverse teams. While STCW Basic Training touches upon these aspects to some extent, a more comprehensive focus on soft skills and interpersonal competencies could better prepare entry-level mariners. While STCW Basic Training is a crucial starting point for entry-level maritime professionals, its adequacy in fully preparing individuals for the challenges of the industry is debatable. Enhancements in the training curriculum to include more in-depth practical exercises, updated industry knowledge, and a stronger focus on soft skills could better equip graduates for success in their maritime careers. #training #traininganddevelopment #yachtmanagement #safetyatsea

Aviation Safety, Quality, Legal and Security Consultant,Project Management, ICAO Certified Trainer and Auditor.
The Civil Aviation Safety Inspector Career Path As CASIs progress in their career, they develop and achieve a wider spectrum of the competencies identified in their CAA’s adapted competency model. We can identify three phases in a CASI`s career, on the understanding that not all CASIs achieve or wish to carry out duties and tasks as a principal inspector. Training associated with these four different phases of a CASI’s career supports the acquisition and maintenance of the competencies CASIs need to effectively perform their job. The four phases are depicted in Figure 3 below and are: recruitment, authorization, senior inspector and principal inspector.
