Happy Arctic Sea Ice Day! 🧊🦭 Keep reading to learn more about current threats to the Arctic how to get involved. Right now, one of the biggest threats to the Arctic is black carbon. But what exactly is black carbon? 💨 ➡️ Black carbon is pollution created by the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels, which leaves dark-colored particulate matter on snow and ice, reducing reflectivity and consequently increasing snow and ice melt.  ➡️ Black carbon accelerates Arctic warming, which is happening four times faster than the global average. So, what can we do to change this? One of the most direct ways to combat black carbon and Arctic warming is by advocating for strong policies at the International Maritime Organization the United Nations agency for regulating maritime shipping — where Pacific Environment holds consultative status, so our Arctic team can make comments, provide recommendations and engage the world’s leaders on Arctic issues. How can you get involved? 🫵 📣 ✔️Consider donating to Pacific Environment to help fund our work combating black carbon in the Arctic: https://bit.ly/donatePE ✔️ Read up!
