With the rise of #AI fitted to modern cars today such as Automated Vehicles (AVs), it is transforming the way we think about transportation, but with that comes the challenge of ensuring the public feels safe and informed. To bridge that gap we should provide better: Education: Break down the tech jargon. Use simple language, visuals, and relatable examples to explain how AVs work. Make it easy for everyone, from tech-savvy to tech-averse groups, to understand. Engagement: Create open dialogues through community events, online forums, and social media. Listen to concerns, answer questions, and address misconceptions head-on. Real-World Demos: Show, don’t just tell. Demonstrate Automated Vehicle safety features in action through live demos, virtual tours, or interactive experiences. Seeing is believing! Partnerships: Collaborate with trusted organisations, like Government groups, safety boards, or consumer groups, to validate and promote the safety of AV technology. Their endorsement can go a long way in building public confidence. 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗩𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰: 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁? 🚘🚗   In this National Road Victim Month, we would like to take this opportunity to discuss how we can improve road safety. In the UK, every 16 minutes, someone is killed or seriously injured on our roads. Human error has been found to be one of the contributing factors to nearly 90% of the accidents.   Automated Vehicles have the potential to increase road safety by reducing road collisions. To achieve this, 𝗣𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗨𝗞 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. ✔   Our director, Prof Siddartha Khastgir, was invited to the UK Parliament for the Transport Committee's self-driving vehicles inquiry last year. He urges for a more detailed definition of the Operational Design Domain (ODD) for AVs and conveys it in an accessible manner to the user. 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗩𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗩 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁🚗   The AV Act is now law in the UK ✅ Our next step needs to focus on building societal trust and acceptance of this technology so the public feels safe when engaging with AVs.   Prof Siddartha Khastgir, Director of PAVE UK, was invited to give oral evidence at the UK Parliament for the Transport Committee's self-driving vehicles inquiry last year. National Autonomous Car Day coincides with the I-10 Wild Horsepass Corridor project, which is future-proofing Arizona's transportation infrastructure. The busy 26-mile stretch of I-10 between Loop 202 and SR 387 (Wild Horse Pass Corridor) is being renovated, with more than $220 million in money from #Prop400 supporting the project. Arizona Department of Transportation, along with partners (EPS Group being one of them!) is tackling congestion and safety: 🛣️ More Lanes: Adding an extra lane in each direction (making the entire Phoenix-Tucson stretch 3 lanes each way!) 🚘 HOV Lane Expansion: Extending HOV lanes from Loop 202 to Riggs Rd for faster commutes ⚠️ Safety First: Advanced tech & wider shoulders for a safer driving experience This project will improve commutes, benefit freight movement, and better connect the Gila River Indian Community. We have created an Embodied AI foundation model which can autonomously drive with just camera sensors, with no HD-map or SD-map, using only a single on-board GPU, through the busiest roads in London. This step-change makes it feasible to deploy this technology on today's production vehicles and allows autonomous driving to be safe and scalable. AI is transforming so many industries and self-driving will be no different. We believe AI technology will be what unlocks the benefits of autonomy at a global scale.
