I had an amazing day out at Everything Electric South, exploring the latest sustainable energy solutions and electric vehicles. I attended a fascinating discussion titled, "Is AI & Autonomous Ever Going to Arrive?" It was great hearing from Siddartha Khastgir who highlighted a key issue: the biggest barrier to autonomous vehicles in the UK is the delay in passing secondary legislation needed to establish a sufficiently comprehensive legal framework. This legislation is crucial for addressing liability, insurance, and safety standards, which would give manufacturers clearer targets. It was great to see National Grid sponsoring such an important event. Would you take a ride in an autonomous vehicle?

Last week we hosted our Annual Functional Safety and Cybersecurity Summit at our HQ in Cambridge! During the two-day event, we brought the automotive ecosystem together to share ideas and collaborate on the solutions needed to build next-generation vehicles. This included productive and joint conversations between our engineering teams and 40 of our safety critical partners, and a panel discussion on the latest functional safety requirements with Peterson Quadros, Wayve's Eric Barbier, SecuRESafe (SRES)' Gokul Krithivasan and PAVE United Kingdom's Siddartha Khastgir. As Suraj Gajendra noted, "no single organization or company can solve the challenges we face as an industry alone; we have to collaborate and work together". The world’s first online platform that gauges public response to influence development of #autonomousvehicles has been launched by WMG, University of Warwick Dubbed the Safety Pool Studio, it is a driving scenario creation platform that the public can use to design road scenarios based on their real-life experiences or expectations during the introduction of #AVs. The platform aims to empower the public to become part of the safety discussions, making the process more inclusive. Lilian Greenwood MP, minister for the future of roads, Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, said, “I’m delighted that this pioneering platform will address the questions and concerns people have about automated vehicles and enable them to challenge developers to address the real issues they face on our roads." ‘‘The public and the future technology users are paramount to automated vehicles’ development and deployment in the UK.
