This is what happens when you leave me to organise my own work travel. I'm going over to HFW's Paris office in early June to talk to the Partners about comms and profile raising, and while looking at transport options for the trip, a thought popped into my head: "I could just cycle there..." Those who know me even a little bit will know that once I've got an idea in my head about a ridiculous cycling challenge, I may as well resign myself to the fact that I'm doing it. But this has been particularly impulsive, even for me. I only had the idea last week, and now everything is booked and finalised, and I set off in less than a month, leaving me virtually no time to train. (Better hope those commuting miles pay off...) The premise is simple: travel from HFW's London to Paris office in a single ride. In practice, this means 300km on the bike, across two countries, solo and unsupported. As an added challenge, I'm aiming to finish within 24 hours - including the overnight ferry crossing. In case that wasn't quite enough time in the saddle, I have to cycle from my home to the London office before I even start the challenge (adding 20km), and, me being me, I've also decided to cycle the UK section of the return journey - another 100km. I am a very keen cyclist, but this ride will be a serious test for me - physically and mentally. I'm undertaking this highly questionable endeavour to raise funds for HFW charity partner Renewable World, which does fantastic work in enabling communities in Africa and Asia to escape energy poverty by installing community-owned solar power systems. I did a two-day ride from Durham to Edinburgh a few years ago for Renewable World, and I'm really proud to be working with them again on this. DOE's new foundation for US energy transition U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has appointed the board of directors for its new agency-related foundation, the Foundation for Energy Security and Innovation (FESI). The FESI is a non-profit entity that will support the DOE in accelerating the commercialization of new and existing energy technologies by engaging with the private sector and philanthropic communities. The board members will set priorities for FESI, establish bylaws and governance structures, and actively fundraise for FESI activities and initiatives. 🌞 Power Your Purpose: Impact Report from Wellspring Alberta 🌞 Every year, SkyFire Energy chooses a non-profit to receive a fully donated solar system, helping it cut operational costs and reinvest in its impactful work. This past year, we were thrilled to support the Randy O’Dell House by Wellspring Alberta! With its new solar installation, it has saved over $3,485 on energy—enough to fund an entire year of Qigong classes for cancer patients. These cost savings enable Wellspring to focus its funds where they are needed most, like on essential programs that bring healing and wellness to its community. Since installation, Wellspring’s system has generated 37.46 MWh, reducing CO2 emissions by 14,682.96 kg. The second of today's video diaries from Matthew Cole and thankfully the snow has been replaced by clear blue skies. Matt's on location at Graig Fatha, Ripple Energy's cooperative wind farm in South Wales. Graig Fatha is Ripple's first project to test the concept of large-scale cooperative energy. It has 900 owners, who receive saving on their energy bill every month. Since 2022, more than £1,338,623 of savings have been generated for its members. Better still, the Welsh Government, which is a shareholder in the scheme, donates a share of its savings to Fuel Bank Foundation to help tackle fuel poverty in the local area, with almost £400,000 donated to date. Join us in donating #solar and #storage installations to those in need!   After donating 1️⃣ 5️⃣ installations across Europe and South Africa 💪 as part of Menlo Electric's program Energy to Power Your Future, we are moving to a much broader initiative: Solar2Share Collective 🤝   Through Solar2Share, any manufacturer, distributor or installer will be able to donate equipment or workmanship to help deliver solar power to those in need.   Solar2Share carries out the project management start-to-finish, raising donations, arranging logistics and offering technical support, as needed. And it takes care of the promotion activities, too!   Solar2Share already has 20 projects in its pipeline, but is open to adding more. So, if there is an institution, region or country you feel particularly strongly about supporting - feel free to propose it.   Are you interested in joining Solar2Share? Feel free to reach out to Nataliia Cherepovska, who coordinates our participation in the program.   Last but not least: progressing to Solar2Share means that we are retiring our own Energy to Power Your Future CSR program. It's been a phenomenal, albeit also challenging experience. It took us months to deliver the first 2 installations. We had to coordinate suppliers, installers, arrange legal framework, carry out logistics - frequently it was a first project of this kind for everyone involved.   I wanted to thank to our persistent and dedicated team, coordinated by Krystyna Kacperska, Corina Serban and Nataliia Cherepovska. But in fact, every department was involved: procurement, legal, finance, customer service, logistics, sales, technical support.
