And this random thought crossed my mind who is real Santa in professional world? Santa’s real, and he’s in HR. How? Just like any seasoned HR, Santa observes the children throughout the year (their activities, growth, efforts made to get in his good books) and then finally when the D-day arrives (Christmas Eve), he showers the good ones with gifts.🌈 Here is the similarity between Santa and any HR of the company: 1. Santa understands that dedication should be rewarded meaningfully. 2. Santa never fails to pay attention. 3. Santa understands the importance of a good management process. 4. Santa leaves children/employees with a simple roadmap for achievement. So, does Santa sound like a perfect HR?They are not only our “Secret Santa Claus” but are also so much more than that. Happy National Administrative Professionals' Day to all my fellow Admins out there! My first admin "job" was helping to fold and stuff envelopes for my Mom when I was about 12 years old. It meant a lot to me that she trusted me to help with these types of tasks, and it was one of many things that led to my wanting to be a helper no matter what field of work I pursued as a young adult. I am thankful that my parents raised my brother and I to be considerate, empathetic, and kind. This meant stacking our plates and cups at the end of the table when dining out, treating others with respect and acceptance, and to complete work with humility and a genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of others. Being an admin means that you often work in the background, setting up the people that you assist for success. This is not an easy task! You have to be able to adjust to different personality styles, foresee needs before they become apparent, be detail-oriented, organized, patient, efficient, trustworthy, have excellent communication skills, and when you are client-facing, you have to be a positive representation of the company or organization that you are employed by. I'm grateful that I knew from a young age that these skills would be part of what would make my life fulfilling. That being said, have I been all of these things in every role that I've had in my career? Absolutely not. What I have tried, sometimes better than others, is to approach my career and personal life with what Christians call a "servants heart." I've attempted to be someone who puts the needs of others before my own, not for my own personal gain but to make others feel supported and cared for. Now that I have three daughters of my own, these attributes are even more important to me. My hope is that they'll also want to be helpers, personally and professionally, as they journey through life. For now, this means that we stack our plates and cups at the end of the table when dining out, because every person has value, is deserving of help, and every little bit of help we put into this world makes it better.

Being an administrative assistant for 16 years.

As we navigate our professional journeys, it’s crucial to remember those who paved the way for us. Today, I want to shine a spotlight on the incredible individuals who have dedicated their lives to caring for us—our elders. Whether they’re our parents, grandparents, mentors, or caregivers, they’ve selflessly nurtured and supported us, imparting wisdom, guidance, and unconditional love along the way. Their contributions have shaped who we are, both personally and professionally. Now, as we strive for success and fulfillment in our careers, it’s our turn to reciprocate that care. Let’s make a commitment to prioritize the well-being of our elders, not just as a duty, but as a heartfelt expression of gratitude. Whether it’s spending quality time with them, ensuring they have access to essential resources, or simply lending a listening ear, every act of kindness makes a difference. Let’s cultivate a culture of respect and support for our elders, recognizing their invaluable role in our lives. Together, let’s honor their legacy by demonstrating compassion, empathy, and gratitude. Let’s not just talk about caring for our elders; let’s actively show it in our actions every day.

Be dedicated at work..

Happy 4th of July all! This holiday is especially important to me as it’s the anniversary of my commitment to public service. This year carries a little extra sentiment as it marks 15 years of public service. I am hoping this is the halfway point of my career, if not sooner. Every year, I use this opportunity to reflect on things I’ve learned along the way: 1) Treat others as though you were on the other side of the desk. I often encounter individuals who are facing adverse actions: loss of a loved one, terminally ill, homeless, commission of a crime, and more. If you have good health, a job, roof over your head, and food on your table…consider yourself blessed. 2) Learn a new skill by teaching others. I’ve had the pleasure of teaching college courses as well as training new employees into the agency. The best way to learn a difficult or complex topic is to teach it to someone else. You’ll force yourself to learn and understand the material, so you don’t look like a fool in front of your colleagues. This is also a great opportunity to add value to yourself as an employee. 3) Accept the challenges that come your way. I’m often tasked with some of the most difficult and stressful cases in our office. These cases aren’t given to me because my boss hates me, but rather my boss has enough trust in me to get the job done. If your boss gives you something difficult, thank him/her for the opportunity to show your skills and abilities. If you fail, it becomes a learning/teaching moment (See number 2). Don’t be afraid of the challenge. It has been my honor and pleasure to serve all those who I’ve come in contact with. I look forward to the fireworks that the next 15 years will bring!

With the Sun in Pisces today, and a waning Moon in Jyeshta Nakshatra, it's a time to reflect on the foundation laid by those who worked before us in our organizations. Their contributions have paved the way for our own projects and work. As we acknowledge this, let’s also think about what we leave behind for others who come after us. Ensuring effective knowledge transfers and thorough handovers when we leave our organizations is crucial for the continued success and growth of our teams and projects. How can we improve these processes to support the next generation of professionals in our field?
