Excited with the recognition of Indonesia digital health work. The Digital Maturity Index (DMI) guides Indonesia’s digital transformation, with a focus on the processes, people, and systems that are essential for stronger health systems. Indonesia MOH, with the support of USAID CHISU, decided to adapt the HIS Stages of Continuous Improvement (SOCI) tool to the Indonesian context to create the DMI. The HIS SOCI-informed DMI allows for concrete monitoring of Indonesia’s HIS progression, allowing a wide range of stakeholders to take evidence-based action to achieve measurable progress toward a common HIS vision. So What? Due to these efforts, there was a marked increase in all HIS domains between 2022 and 2023—clearly demonstrating a positive progression toward health system digital transformation. There was a 51 percent reduction in tuberculosis data entry, from nine minutes to four for each patient encounter. Indonesia’s MOH believes this increased time with patients will translate into more data-informed decisions, which will in turn lead to improved patient care and health outcomes.

I am delighted to share that I have had the privilege of contributing to the report "Roadmap for Health and Well-being in Central Asia (2022–2025): Progress and Opportunities," alongside many esteemed colleagues from WHO Regional Office for Europe and beyond. This comprehensive report was prepared for the Central Asia International Health Investment Forum, that will take place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on 26–27 June 2024. 🔹 It evaluates the progress made from 2022 to mid-2024 under the Central Asia Roadmap for Health and Well-being (CARM) across five Central Asian countries (CACs).  🔹 The report highlights individual and collaborative achievements for CACs amid a polycrisis (‎climate change, COVID-19 pandemic and political instability)‎, emphasizing the need for partnerships and coordinated action to meet the CARM’s political, investment and technical objectives.  🔹 Achieving all the goals requires further investment in health, focusing on all 11 action areas of CARM. Last week, I was privileged to join eminent health leaders and experts in “a knowledge sharing lab” . During the sessions, leaders discussed among other issues how their past experiences as ministers could be used to support serving and newly appointed ministers to navigate the challenges that characterize the role of the minister of health in Africa. The health sector in Africa is complex and continues to face many challenges, from infectious diseases to chronic illnesses, underfunding leading to weak infrastructure and shortage of human resources. However, with the right support for leadership in and resources, it is possible to accelerate progress and improve the health outcomes of people across the continent. Such support will necessarily include ministerial capacity development. It is commendable that the Africa CDC has taken on this responsibility with great enthusiasm. A sample of what some former ministers shared last week during sessions demonstrate immeasurable readiness to support this novel initiative…… ✅“ I was the minister for health in my country for 15 years. How I wish I had a leadership coach to support me when I was first appointed” ( former minister). ✅“ I was a minister for health in my country for just about three years. Given the complexity of the system, a capacity building program as part of my orientation would have gone a long way in flattening my learning curve” (former minister). ✅“ Although I had previously served in other sectors as a minister, nothing had prepared me for the role of a minister for health. A leadership development program for my senior colleagues and I, would have helped me to navigate the challenges of the sector “ ( my quote).
