Health is a human right. Yet access to healthcare remains unequal and many women are underserved. From chronic pain to reproductive health, gaps in research and care disproportionately affect women across the globe. This #InternationalHumanRightsDay, we acknowledge the trailblazing women who helped shape the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, including Article 25, which recognizes the right to adequate health and well-being. At WHCC, we’re proud to support research that helps bridge these gaps and champions a future where women’s health is prioritized—not overlooked. Along with our partner organizations, we are actively working towards building a future where every woman has access to the healthcare she deserves. Read more here: https://bit.ly/4ivVjuo

🌍✨ Today, on Human Rights Day 2024, I had the privilege of speaking at a webinar hosted by the Human Rights and Coercion Reduction Committee. This year’s theme, Equality, emphasises the importance of dignity, fairness, and respect for everyone, particularly those at the greatest risk of discrimination. The discussions focused on: - The difference between equality (in the eyes of the law) and equity, and why addressing systemic barriers is essential. - The role of lived experience leadership in transforming culture and embedding rights-based practices in mental health care. - How tools like the Human Rights Analysis Tool are driving change within mental health services in South Australia. I was joined by a fantastic panel, including: - Jenny Singh, who shared her lived experience to highlight the importance of supportive decision-making in mental health treatment. - Dr John Brayley, who addressed the barriers and enablers to embedding human rights in mental health services. - Camilo Guaqueta, who shared examples of effective rights-based programs and their impact. The enthusiasm and thoughtful questions from participants demonstrated how important this work is. While South Australia doesn’t yet have a formal Human Rights Act, today’s session reinforced the value of advocating for one and ensuring that human rights principles remain at the forefront of mental health care. 📢 “Where do human rights begin? In small places, close to home.” – Eleanor Roosevelt #HumanRightsDay #Equality #MentalHealthRights #HumanRightsInAction

Today, on Human Rights Day, we reflect on this year’s powerful theme: Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now. Human rights are the foundation of a just, equitable, and sustainable world. They empower individuals, protect the most vulnerable, and enable communities to thrive. Yet, many continue to face systemic inequality, discrimination, and the denial of their basic rights. At Aide à l'Enfance de l'Inde et du Népal (AEIN), we are committed to working alongside marginalized communities to defend human rights and promote justice, equality, and dignity for all. The time to act is now—because the choices we make today determine the future we leave behind. Together, we can build a world where everyone’s rights are respected and upheld. #HumanRightsDay #OurRightsOurFuture #ActNow #JusticeForAll #Solidarity

"Our World Still Cries Out for Justice, Equality, and Inclusion." On this Human Rights Day, let us confront the urgent need for action. Human rights are not just ideals, they are the foundation of a world where everyone can thrive. Yet, the path to this vision has been fraught with misunderstanding. For centuries, power dictated who had rights, creating systems of inequality that persist today. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 was a turning point, declaring that all humans are born free and equal in dignity and rights. Our world desperately needs this promise to be realized. Let’s honor this day by committing to justice, equality, and inclusion for all—because a better world is built on the foundation of human rights. #HumanRightsDay #JusticeForAll #EqualityNow

Human Rights Day 2024: Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now Human rights are under attack. Millions worldwide face poverty, hunger and fragile systems that haven’t fully recovered from the pandemic. Conflicts are rising, inequalities are deepening and discrimination is on the rise. Older people in particular continue to face ageism, neglect, and abuse, limiting their dignity and participation in society. Women's rights and freedoms are also being rolled back, threatening progress everywhere. This year’s theme reminds us that human rights are the foundation of a better future. Every right is connected - when one is undermined, all are at risk. On Human Rights Day, let’s stand together for equality, justice, and dignity. Let's protect and uphold human rights for ALL people, of ALL ages. #EAAA #HumanRightsDay2024 #EqualityForAll #EndAgeism #DignityAndJustice

Today, we celebrate Human Rights Day, commemorating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) adopted on 10 December 1948. This historic document, recognized in 577 languages, remains the most translated document globally and serves as a powerful blueprint for equality, dignity, and justice. The 2024 theme, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now,” reminds us of the transformative role human rights play in shaping a better tomorrow. As UN Secretary-General António Guterres has said, “Human rights are the foundation for peaceful, just, and inclusive societies.” This year, we focus on how human rights can prevent harm, protect communities, and create sustainable, inclusive solutions. It’s a call to action: to challenge hate speech, counter misinformation, and mobilize efforts to uphold the rights that unite us all. Let’s use this day to recommit creating a future where human rights are the cornerstone of every community. Together, we can build a world that’s peaceful, just, and inclusive for all.
