Let’s harvest some Mediterranean wind! 🎊 We are proud to share that Renexia Spa has tasked us with designing a key part of Med Wind - the largest floating offshore wind project in the Mediterranean. Located off the coast of Trapani, Sicily, this marks Aker Solutions' first offshore wind project in the Mediterranean. 🌍 Together with our partner ABB, Aker Solutions will design the subsea substations, the ‘things’ that collect power from the turbines and increase the voltage before the power is sent to shore. This is a front-end engineering and design contract (FEED) and the project is in the early stages, which means that the projects is still subject to the client's final investment decision. The subsea substation is a truly innovative solution. Instead of putting the substation on a platform above water, we put in on the seabed! These advanced modules reduce cost, environmental impact, and require no major maintenance for 25 years! 💡♻️ Improvements like these are key to unlocking the power of offshore wind.
