#droneTuesday #advancedairmobility #realitycheck needed - "Additionally, advanced air mobility offerings go beyond urban air mobility, presenting options for cargo transport and regional air mobility." Deloitte , let's put advanced air.mobility and passenger eVTOL aircraft in perspective: Even with all the hype and focus on as well as the massive investment in passenger eVTOL startups, cargo eVTOLs have preceded and opened the way for passenger eVTOL over the last decade with eCTOL and eVTOL sUAS drones, delivering medicines and vaccines in Africa (RigiTech , Swoop , WINGCOPTER , Zipline etc) and now commercial drone deliveries in Australia, Ireland, the US and counties by companies like DroneUp , Manna Drone Delivery and Wing . Despite Lilium's claims, eVTOL aircraft are too inefficient, slower and costly, like helicopters, to compete with modern fixed wing piston aircraft, like the Tecnam Aircraft P2012, let alone the BETA TECHNOLOGIES CX300 and Eviation Aircraft Alice, for regional airmobility when they are connecting the many small urban regional and rural airfields and airports with major hub or city airports regionally. To compete on total travel time, heli/vertiports would have to be significantly closer than urban airports for the passenger. Advanced air mobility is also not just premium eVTOL airshuttles and airtaxis, its also about tackling the real challenge namely 450000 or so general aviation fixed wing aircraft globally, many of which still burn leaded fuel. The real breakthrough for sustainable passenger aircraft came with the type certification of the Pipistrel Aircraft Velis Electro eCTOL aircraft by the EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency in June 2020.

Congratulations to the Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) Task Force on Autonomy on releasing your first white paper on this new technology. The goal of the Task Force is to ensure the United States remains a leader in civil aviation innovation while ushering in an era of more accessible, affordable, and equitable flight. The report offers some excellent, concrete, near-term actions that will help establish commercially viable autonomous operations. These actions include further acceptance of Detect and Avoid systems, modernizing ATC (Air Traffic Control) communications infrastructure, and developing appropriate training, qualifications, and certification requirements for oversight of autonomous UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems). #autonomousflight #eVTOL #AIA https://hubs.li/Q025-jZk0

Join me on the evolving Aerospace digital transformation journey of product development enabling 3D Design, Engineering, Modelling, Simulation, Data & Process Management, Quality & Compliance
This alarming snippet of aviation news somehow slipped passed my newsfeed. If I'd been in that window seat, I probably would have spilt my peanuts... That being said, it's an interesting starting point for a conversation about the importance of a properly deployed #digital based #MRO solution. Such an approach, incorporating and providing oversight of the complete process, enables the quick identification of the source of such incidents. More importantly, with #predictivemaintenance being increasingly deployed. I'd posit that such an incident may well have been presented in the first place. At TECHNIA and Dassault Systèmes, we provide using the 3DExperience platform, world class digital MRO solutions #flybythepowerofone that harness the power of big data analytics on a single integrated digital platform. Optimising fleet maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) in Aerospace and Defence. My thanks to Scharlock Enrico for introducing to me this fascinating subject. DM me if you'd like to find out more...

The #Aerospace & #Defence industry remains a source of innovation, thanks to their growing interest in the progressive world of #automation and #robotics. The advanced technology of mobile robots, in fact, has several potential applications in these two particular sectors, as they can provide the appropriate assistance mainly for #assembly and #transportation of different materials. Oppent operates in the Aerospace & Defence sector through the #design and #production of vehicles capable of easily integrating into complex projects, adapting and guaranteeing minimum space requirements, offering extreme #manoeuvrability and, above all, maximum #safety for workers. Among Oppent's most relevant case studies is Airbus Helicopters #MECA 4.0 industrial transformation programme, which involves the complete #automation of the factory for the production and assembly of various components, at the Aéroport Marseille Provence in #Marignane (France). Discover how Oppent provided a fleet of mobile robots with #omnidirectional #navigation, specially created to bring the rotors of the #helicopters to the warehouses, and to #deliver the various tools to the staff supervising the factory.

In a broad sense, I found these two articles very interesting if one chooses to see aviation safety both ends of the risk spectrum…and not what was, but what can be. We are indeed at a crossroads in advancing technology that has the potential to reduce aviation risks…to include aviators, controllers, maintainers, and planners tackling age, dual/single pilot, controller issues. I’ll always be of a stick and rudder and pitch and power fabric…but as aircraft and the aerospace system complexity continues to increase in size, scope, and volume, let alone impact on the global economies and new entrants, what tools can be weaved in to reduce aviation risk for the next generation? Best. https://lnkd.in/g-nhiy8C https://lnkd.in/gviZ87zr

🚁 Volocopter says that the 18 rotors on the #VoloDrone and #VoloCity designs generate a buzzing 🔉 “no louder than a car passing by....even at takeoff and landing, this would blend into the existing noise landscape that you have in the bigger metro areas.” For the company, one major objective remains the issue of public acceptance by familiarising people with the sight and sound of electric-powered aircraft passing overhead. Read more in this interesting article about the company 2021's inaugural public flight of its VoloDrone design at the Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress in Hamburg. Looking forward to next year's ITS Congresses 2024 in Dubai, the leading event in smart mobility & digitalisation of transport. Florian Reuter Aerospace America magazine (AIAA)
